With Hans Zimmer on board for ASM2, It was time for a proper score thread where we can discuss what Mr. Zimmer brings to the table and chat exclusively about the score for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Sorry about the rant and to keep living in the past (bc I'm out of my skin excited for TASM2, I love everything about it so far) and this will be the last thing I say on the topic, but this is one of the best pieces of film score I've ever heard. And I'm not being hyperbolic

Fixed it for ya.

Ha thanks UW and Airnick, my bad

No problem. And going back to your comments about Horner's work for ASM, I agree with you. It truly is a lovely score. I think Horner was on to something and I was a bit disheartened to hear he wouldn't be coming back for the sequel. Despite a few issues with ASM's music I felt it was one of the better superhero soundtracks in recent years. It was organic, dynamic, and in the scope of a massive movie it was very intimate. Not to mention imo this is one of Horner's more original works with only a few notable references to his previous scores.

I'm not a huge Zimmer fan so I think that puts me somewhere in the minority. However, I like the idea that he's got so many other musicians working with him on this project for ASM2. I just hope he's able to also create something noteworthy and original.

Agreed on all accounts, with the exception of Zimmer already being one of my favorite composers before he boarded ASM2. So many people know him mainly for his work with Nolan and other recent compositions, but I think he has a spectacularly deep and diverse body of work

^The bolded part especially is what has me so freakin excited for this score, and what really sold me on finally accepting that they wanted to move on from Horner. Despite being my favorite composer, I wasn't psyched when Hans was first announced... but with all this collaboration, and "super group," and the creativity and talent going into this score, I can't help but think that this now may be one of the greatest scores/soundtracks to come out

Oh yes, I'm very aware of Zimmer's repetoire. However, I'm just not a big fan of his style. I do like certain things he's done i.e. The Lion King.

It would please me greatly to have a soundtrack/score that is something special. I think we all want that. I'm anxious about it but also looking forward to it with as much of an open mind as I can muster.

So the score in the beginning of this trailer is a sample of the final right?

If so, then I'm psyched. Sounds like the most inspirational in a long tome

I remember when the soundtrack for TASM was online before the movie came out, I was spamming it every day at work, imagining how each song fit each scene! It was gold!
I can't wait to do the same this time around!

I cant wait to hear the soundtrack they should be getting a demo out soon right?

The demo will probably come out in April, maybe a couple of weeks before the UK release.

Same  lol

By the time I saw the movie, I was already nostalgic for the music :funny:

Honestly, I only think Horner's score was lacking during the action sequences. Everything else was golden. However, I am really excited to hear what Zimmer and his musical supergroup has in store for us!

Hans Zimmer and the Magnificent Six.

Marc Webb just tweeted this:
Come to my #SXSW keynote: Sat, VIMEO theater 11AM. Teasing supernuts ASM2 score by @Realhanszimmer @Pharrell @Johnny_Marr @MichaelEinziger

Score preview, eh?

I didn't hear much of paranoia?

And the theme wasn't too different but had a weird beginning. Couldn't make it out.

Well, the main theme starts at "2:37" mark. I don't think the "weird" thing before it, is part of it. Anyway, the actual trumpet sound in the main theme is totally different than in any of the other versions of it - it sounds way bigger, probably simply due to the added reverb, but still; bigger (and better, to me at least).

The Paranoia part starts at the "1:49" mark. I'm loving the new piano "bass line" in it, and the synth pluck sounds awesome.

Edit: I also noticed that the electric guitar melody at 2:16 in the Enemies Unite Zizzle is the same as the Paranoia melody.

Looks like that melody will play quite the part in the score. Me likey.

I'm excited about Zimmer's new Spider-Man score because it's adding to the great interpretations we have already.
My picks from each composer would be:

Elfman

Main Title
Costume Montage
Revenge
M.J.'s New Life/Spidus Interruptus
City Montage
He’s Back
Parade Attack
At Long Last, Love
Getting Through
Farewell
End Credits

Horner

Main Title-Young Peter
Becoming Spider-Man
Hunting for Information
The Briefcase
The Spider-Room/Rumble in the Subway
Secrets
The Equation
The Ganali Device
I Can’t See You Anymore
Promises/End Titles

After just watching 12 Years A Slave, i'm seriously hoping Zimmer puts effort into this. He basically used his theme from Inception as the soundtrack to that movie...

Yeah. I dunno. I mean, Zimmer has talked about finding an original sound for Spider-man and something that is unique to him--about finding the right sound to capture his youth. Plus, he's got guys like Marr and Pharrell adding their sounds to the mix. I'm not a big Zimmer fan but I'm still hopeful.

I'm excited to hear his opening titles and end credits music.
