The High School Experience: What was/is high school life like for you.

You know what'll get you through high school? Movies by John Hughes. They taught me that even though high school kinda sucks, you gotta find your fun where you can and learn to let go of the bull**** that's holding you down.

Take a day off and go to town with your best friends. Spend a day with people of different social cliques to see that high school isn't a picnic for them either. Throw a huge party at your house with the aid of a magical computerized supermodel. Go to prom with a rich dude who may or may not really like you, leaving your devoted best friend who's obviously in love with you in the dust.

Maybe not that last one.

What, I'm not allowed to ask my friends for their underwear, then some 20 years later be kidnapped by the joker?

:csad:

You can do anything in a John Hughes movie except what Andie did to Duckie in Pretty In Pink. Oh, and Home Alone 3. Nobody should ever do that.

High School was easy. Didn't think it at the time of course. But my parents always used to say that when i leave, i'll look back and think it was a great time of my life... and they are right.

My school has none of these things. Just lame ****. :csad: Pretty much nothing that interests me. My buddies and I talked about to just show up to chess club and get our pictures taken just to say we were in chess club. I mean they bake more than play chess anyway. I'm taking good electives, it's just they have pretty much nothing that interests me in after school stuff. I mean they have freaking Bible Studies. Math Club, Foreign Language Club. *Yaaawwwwwnnnn*

You should talk to your principal or some higher up about creating an elective. Earlier this year, a few of my friends and I created a movie discussion club, and even a movie review show for my school channel. It was pretty easy; my English teacher (who was a complete g) let us borrow his class for the club, signed off as the head of it, and I knew the broadcasting teacher from tv crew and he was fine with the show. Scheduling was a bit tough since I had track and weight room on top of it, but once we got it rolling, it was usually the highlight of my day. Not to mention the show made my friends and I a bit popular. Every now and then, some ghetto dude would call us out and give us a high five. Also, application material. Booyah

That's ****ing awesome. My high school surprisingly has **** equipment*. I was in film production, which assigned us to make a number of films based on a topic. I'd like to think that all of the material I wrote was half-decent, but 99.9% of the class obviously wasn't really interested. I always wanted to do stuff on my own with the school equipment, but no one I knew wanted to do anything serious. I did one project on my own time, and it was a piece of ****. None of the kids did what I wanted them to do, and all pretty much bailed on the project after the second day. At least it was only an extra credit assignment.

***** digital cameras which you can probably get at Radioshack for $10-20, a rolling tripod with a broken wheel and mics that didn't work. We used iMovie on Macs, which wasn't too bad for school assignments, but compared to Final Cut...

^ haha. That sucks dude. We got lucky. There's a rival school that does great stuff. We HAVE to beat them. They suck so hard.

Dude , you're taking high school too f****** seriously. I know you're gonna say "What the f*** do you know ?" I went through a lot of bulls*** when I went to school. I was filled with anger like you wouldn't believe. Sure I had some good moments like when that chick let me touch her breasts in class , but most of it sucked. I've been filled with anger for a big chunk of my life and what the f*** has that gotten me ? I got a s*** load of problems now. Trust me the path you're gonna go down is not worth it. Try to be positive. You don't have to listen to me and when you read this you can tell me to f*** off if you want because I don't really give a s*** , but at least listen to someone who has been through some s***.
I don't think you're being an ass, tbh. i actually feel bad fr you because i know how that feels. I have alot of anger as well.

Agreed, you *MUST* graduate. Things after high school will be different, if you let them. High school was so awful for me, but that just made me all the more determined to make what came after it awesome. You will have much more control of your circumstances and who you are around. I made certain to change what I knew I didn't like about myself, and in combination with finally getting more control over my environment, I found myself truly enjoying life. After I graduated high school, I moved on and didn't look back. I may hate the memories, and they're painful, but I am so so proud of who I've become despite it all. Look at it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
I wouldl voe to do the same. Here's the problem though, I don't have enough credits to graduate. So if I can't get help or touterd, which is actually likely, then I can't graduate. You can't be abscent more than 15 times and if you are, you can't get touterd. Not enough credits = no graduation. Hell, I have all my senior project stuff worked out, but even that won't save me. So, Trust me, I want to finish high school, but it's not just about how bad it is. There are other things that are literally stopping me. Let's hope I still can.

Also Doctor Jones, you make very good points, and i agree with you. however, I do suck it up, trust me. I don't come home every day in a bad mood and I don't blame others for it. Yes, I do look miserable alot, but I don't take it out on other people. That's a cowards way of acting. Trust me, I don't blame others and I didn't even make a hint of that in my post. IF I did, then I really didn't mean it. I mean, just remember guys, you know the state of Rhode Island? From Family Guy? That's where i live. We are recquired to do senior project. I chose becoming a filmmaker. Now, I wrote my proposal letter, and it was accepted, which is great! That's very difficult work, but i know i can do it. However, then comes the credits thing. I can't make up those credits unless I did over the summer. I thought I could get touterd, but i found out that after 15 abscences you can't. I was abscent 17 times last year. Let's hope they go easy on me and let me get touterd. Trust me, i'm a very good student.

We can understand you're angry, but you can't let that bring yourself down. You have to overcome that. You are going to be a senior, so this must be a positive thing for you. Do the best you can so you can graduate. You hating the school isn't going to change, so change yourself and how you do things. Don't give them what they want. Prove them wrong. I give you points for sucking it up, but you can't let all that **** bring you down. It's lower than you. People when they realize it are better than that and can change things for them. In five or ten years from now, don't you want to be successful and do what you love and laugh at the past experiences and the people who treated you wrong? Graduating will be one of the steps to doing that.

Our school budget is very tight. I think they lowered it this year and fired teachers from last year too.

I was in a video club in the 8th grade. We just got started and it was a new club that year. We didn't have alot of equipment but I stayed in it for the entire school year. I was surrounded by some very weird people, but that didn't matter because I realy enjoyed it, for what little we had. One of the guys who ran it was a producer of some sort and he taught me some stuff. I already knew alot of it, but it was great to actually get out there and film something. I learned to edit, which was a pain in the ass, but it was fun. I remember being the only one that day to show up to edit. I took charge and directed the very few videos we could film. They were mostly just test stuff but it was still fun. Then the school wanted us to film something for them to and we got one of the school's students who performed in our video. The video was awful, but I remember having fun setting things up and working with her. The dude running it also taught me to treat your actors well and they will come back.

Dude...it's ****ing High School....lol.

If you honestly think you are not the problem, then that is why you're going though "hell".

And btw, you wont get far without a high school diploma. So you better start fixing yourself.

And dont tell me "I like myself! And I DONT WANNA CHANGE!".....well, obviously you dont like yourself if you're having a ****** time. If you let people know you're a loner, loser, weirdo, you wont have friends. Ever.

Try to be more open to people. Kids like that. They hate weird little ****s. I know I do. I used to have no friends...but I changed, changed my personallity. I'm still ME, i'm just way more open, and dont shun people away.

Seriously, it's 4 years of your life. Perhaps one of the more important years....the school **** is all BS...but the life skills is what you really got to learn.

So do yourself a favor, and get over it. Say "**** it" and try to have some fun. Honestly, you'll look back 10 years later and realize what a waste of time you gave to yourself. I know I do, and I'm not even out yet.

Honestly, unless you had a legit issue (Maybe a family memeber died, maybe you went to the hospital, maybe you got sick....), I dont feel sorry for anyone who hated High School. Because they could've easily changed.

I hate weirdos. I hate them because they are so oblivious they're weird that they act like they're doing nothing wrong. If you're a nerd, and all you do is spout the nerdiest **** possible, and make yourself a target, DONT.

I'm a huge nerd. And if I DO say something nerdy, i'll call myself out on it. Kids like that. It makes me seem normal. I mean, sure, you get the ocassional *****e bag, and so what. Who cares about them. Either stick up for youself or ignore them.

Long post I know....but I just cannot stand this attitude people have. It's so useless for life.
sorry for my triple post guys.

Celtic, last year I had a nice group of friends. Not a ton, but a nice group. They weren't weirdos. We loved the same type of heavy metal music, as I said. We all had lnog hair, and it was nice. I didn't hang out with them outside of school, but my attitude really changed last year. I was happier, made more jokes, and like what I became, even though i didn't lose who I was. My appearance changed slightly, but not in a bad way. It jsut all fell into place. I knew them for 4 years and have seen 2 of them since graduation. The only reason I'm pissed is because now that they've graduated, I feel as though I'm back to being who I was. Sorry if I make high school sound like hell, lol, but I can't put it any other way. So it's really not the changing part. I already did that, and who knows, maybe I will keep the new me again this year. All I know is that i don't see myself with short hair anytime soon. I look better with it long, lol.

Dude...I think you need another year of high school. :o

But the point is, it IS your fault. It's ALL your fault. It's MY fault (and maybe another kid's :o) that i'm staying another year. But so ****ing what. Then after this, I can move on. And then life....life goes on! :awesome:

^^ Why did you stay back?

Btw, sorry about the spelling errors. Would was a typo.

I have a total of 4 friends left in my entire high school. 4. ALL my friends are gone. But that's not important to what I need to do.

It's still the changing part. If a random kid thinks you're annoying...then you probably are, in some ways. Figure out why, and then improve yourself.

It is possible the kid is just a *****e. They exist. But if it happens more then once....ehh.

And hair isnt important. So I dont know why that's brought up all the time. :awesome:

Sorry...heh.

Why? Because I did the same ******** stuff you did. I had too many friend issues that caused me to stay at home all depressed and ****, whine about stuff that never even existed....it was bad. So incredibly, ****ing bad.

Look, lets say you go to Film School without graduating. Awesome. How will you pay for it? Your parents? lol. No. You'll need a job. And most jobs will NOT hire someone without a diploma. So good luck with that.

No, trust me, I'm not annoying. The one's who do pick on me like it because of my reaction. Which is normally just shaking my head. Every kid is different Celtic. No offense, but you don't know everything.

Also, I just think my long hair is cool. :word:

Sorry, I meant wouldl ove was a typo. I meant would love. It's because I'm in hurry. Going to see Expendables in like a minute.

Like I said, all I can do hope I can graduate.

I dont know everything, but I think I have a better understanding of High School then you do. Because i'm NOT going through hell.

Open yourself up. If someone gives you ****, turn it into something funny. Like you dont care. Go to parties. Get ****ing WASTED, and show people you want to have a good time. That's what you need to do. Establish yourself as a worthy person. Not a sad little monkey. :D

It's not a AIM chat. :awesome: lolol :cwink:

Agreed. Detention is the best method for social growth.

As such I can claim to have grown more than any of you could possibly imagine...

That's not true. I know people personally who never got their diploma or GED and still have a job.

That's not true. I know people personally who never got their diploma or GED and still have a job.

Emphasis on *most* jobs won't, though. It is getting harder and harder to get a great-paying full time job with anything less than a Master's.

True dat! Jobs for people who only went to high school (or less) are disappearing. I mean, a lot of university graduates with bachelor degrees can't find jobs!
