Hatchet was awesome, loved it, Shame the sequel sucked mind. What's everyone else's thoughts on the third one?

You know Jason vs a Swat would have been a great plot in Jason Goes to Hell instead of it taking up about 5 minutes of screen time followed by a body jump plot.

I actually quite enjoyed Part 2 myself. Hatchet III is good, but it feels a little lacking. It literally feels like a part of a larger movie, so maybe if you watched all back to back, it'd feel better, but on its own, it falls a little short. Still, not bad though.

So, for my now 33 Days of Halloween, I watched "The Loved Ones", a brutal Australian horror film. Without giving too much away, basically a teen scarred by the death of his father, is kidnapped by an outcast classmate and her father on the last day of school to be the king to her queen at their own messed up end of school dance. His mother and girlfriend also try to figure out what has happened to him. It gets far, far more messed up than that, but I don't want to give anything away to anyone who wants to see it. It isn't torture for the sake of torture like Hostel, and has a pretty good story and some great acting. Overall, I'd give it a solid 7/10. It isn't for everyone, and if you can't stomach gore in an average horror film, you probably won't like this one, but its worth a shot.

Since it's October officially, I started my 31 Days of Halloween marathon with Island of Lost Souls. Such a fantastic movie. Dunno what I'm watching tomorrow, but I'm happy with how I started.

Well I'm not doing a 31 days countdown thing but I want to watch a few horror films a week if I can. Although I have just got the Crystal Lake Memories doc that's on for around 7 hours so sure that's gonna take up plenty of my time.

I may be watching the Tall Man with Jessica Biel either tonight or tomorrow. Has anyone seen that film?

Finally got around to watching Hatchet 2.

First of all...as far as slashers go...I still think that Chromeskull is a more iconic slasher than Victor Crowley. Not that the two Chromeskull movies are perfect, I just think it has more potential to not just become a rip-off of the classics.

I don't remember much about the first one, just that I thought it was severely undeserving of all the hype it got. This one I actually enjoyed a bit more...I laughed at a few of the jokes and some of the kills looked cool (if totally unrealistic). I liked that Danielle Harris took over the lead role (and wish she'd been in the first one so all three could be watched back to back as one film). My biggest problem with it was that the absurdity sometimes got in the way of the Horror. Yes, the kills LOOKED cool...but often they were simply not possible (a man's intestines get wrapped around his throat...and instead of his intestines tearing, or him being choked out and having his neck crushed, his entire head exploded). Sometimes silliness is a good thing, but I found it getting in the way at times.

I really hope the new F13 doesn't go with found-footage. I mean, with a serial killer running around it might be cool. Better than dumb ghosts and stuff, but still, I'm not completey behind it. Won't each character have to have a camera? Otherwise you'd only the deaths that the main character sees.

That sounds like Halloween: Resurrection.

I remember walking out of the theater after that happened. To this very day I have not watched Resurrection since.

I ask because it was recommended to me by a lovely woman I met while I was doing my laundry, at 3 in the morning. I value her opinion, but wanted a second one before I plunked down serious (hard) cash for it.

I honestly can't express how much I loathe Halloween Resurrection. I mean, I think I hate it more than any other movie. I'm actually not the biggest fan of the franchise. I prefer Nightmare, Friday and Child's Play to it, but H1, H2, H3, and H20 are all awesome and H20 ended the franchise with such finality it's a crime they even wanted another one to begin with.
I know I just said all of this but I feel compelled to talk about how s**t the film really is every time it comes up in discussion

The plot itself is an ok concept for a slasher film and a little ahead of it's time considering the brunt of found footage stuff didn't come into popularity until a handful of years later, but a decent gimmick alone is nothing when everything about the film is bankrupt. The characters, their dialogue and everything else all feels SO forced and phony. The only decent cast member was the main girl. Slashers aren't known for having amazing characters or dialogue, but this one takes the cake for artificiality. I just want everyone to shut up and die so I don't have to listen to their asinine dialogue and watch their plastic performances. It takes a lot for a slasher to grate on my nerves, this one really really gets the job done.

And the whole film just reeks of soulless money grubbing. The argument can be made most all of these films are money grubbing, but I don't think many of them are soulless. A lot of these directors and writers truly liked the entries in these various series they worked on. H:R just comes off as the most transparent film to reach greedy hands in fans pockets some more. The film is just so blank and lacks any sort of charm or personality. I can almost see the Akkad's laughing evilly with scotch in their hands as they view helpless fans watching this for the first time.

Busta Rhymes karate kicking Mike is the series at it's most low. I mean the guy literally KARATE CHOPS AND KICKS Michael-while screaming "HIYA" and spouting off lame one-liners. This isn't meant to be tongue-in-cheek or humorous at all, which makes it worse. I have a feeling Busta only agreed to the film if he got to take Mike out. What makes it worse? He's the guy that finally beat him. Not his sister or a real character, a rap star during his 15 minutes.

Two things about the film that are decent: Michaels look and some of the kills. That's it. HR is a cheap, hollow, lazy, phony, forced, sloppy, plastic, soulless film that will forever taint the perfect ending the series. Like I said in my previous post, hate on Rob Zombies films all you want for crapping on Mikes legacy but at least those films were actual FILMS with a distinct vision and style. You may hate the particular style and vision, but at least it was done the way he wanted to do them, on his terms. HR wasn't born from any desire to tell a decent story and it shows. Boy does it ever show.

A lot of people dislike it, and a lot of people LOVE it. I for one, like it. It's a soap opera really. A warped and twisted one, but a soap opera all the same. So if you can deal with those tendencies you may find enjoyment out of it. The second season is a lot better than the first imo but the first keeps you entertained by the sheer mad, WTFness of it all. I would rate the first season a solid 7/10 while the second would be a 9/10. The first would be a little higher if it wasn't for the clueless nature of the lead (you'll see if you watch it).

You also don't need to slam down cash for it. It's on netflix instant watch. That is A LOT cheaper than the DVDs. They should add the second season soon as the third is about to start.

Its a lot of good ideas that don't come together well but it is extreme enough to fool people into thinking its good. Don't get me wrong... its not bad. Its just annoying that they come so close to being really good but totally miss the mark at the same time.

IMO they go so over the top with EVERY horror theme that it becomes gimmicky.

wow. even reading that fills me with rage. what were they thinking? the ghosthunters-esque tv show idea was bad enough. but in what world is making a joke of your main villain considered a good idea?

i didn't like the first season. i found the first half of the second season entertaining; if pointless (i didn't stick around for the finale). 3rd season looks like it could be interesting. i'm sure that it won't be. but i'm still going to watch. i think you should to; if only to have something to talk to your friend about.

Kicked off Halloween Horror month by watching a new movie called Kiss of the Damned

A lot of people say it isn't a Horror movie...but it's a thriller with vampires...so it counts in my book. The plot is that a female vampire that just drinks animal blood meets a guy and they fall instantly in love, so she turns him...then her evil sister who happily kills humans show up to stay for a week.

It's apparently a throwback to the 70's European romantic vampire flicks...which means I have no idea how to compare it because I never saw any of those films.

For the most part it is well shot, and I liked that it was very tasteful...not too cheesily graphic despite plenty of sex. A few too many sex scenes to be honest. While kept brief, one was just silly and one was supposed to be a major plot point that really just felt out of place for me since it was quickly brushed aside and was out of character for one of them. I didn't like that the French actresses in the movie had such poor grasp of English that it affected their acting. Also, as the movie hit the final act...there is that out of character sex scene...a reveal that falls flat...and then no final showdown as the plot just winds down without one. I get what they were going for...but I shouldnt get bored as the film is winding up to its grand finale. Plus, the way the evil sister was dealt with went against what they had said earlier, so clearly there was a goof on what exactly vampires are capable of. I enjoyed the music and the mood and some of the shots were nice, but ultimately, romantic vampire movies that go nowhere and resolve their main drama by sheer coincidence without even involving the main characters just isn't my thing. It's a shame.

I LOVED season 1. Aside from one stupid episode that involved the Black Dahlia for no apparent reason, the first season was a really well done horror story that had enough time to really get you into the characters. Again, LOVED it!

I was hoping that season 2 would be the obvious story that spun out of that first season (not going to spoil it)...so I was already a bit down on season 2 before it started. I thought the idea could be manipulated in such a way to cover a different genre of horror every year, while keeping the same story going. They chose to go a different route.

That said, I DESPISED season 2. It was just throwing everything against the wall to see what stuck. Again, I won't spoil it...but not even halfway through the season that had thrown pretty much every type of horror gimmick into one story...it was just like a "hey look, it's THIS...now THIS." I stopped watching around the halfway point and never finished.

I will watch the third season because my girlfriend wants to.
