The Horror Thread - Part 2

I've been on a scream kick watched 2-4 and remembered how lackluster 3 was ( I only saw it once opening night in the theater) also watched Hocus Pocus last night and Ghostbusters. I'm going to miss all of this horror watching come Halloween I still have quite a few classics to get through before then.

Scream 3 is really disappointing. I enjoy the end of the film taking place in a mansion though.

Nice job on the pumpkins redhawk!

It's surprisingly the same mansion they used for shooting scenes of the school in H20, I can't definitely tell the difference of writing in 3 done mostly by Ehren Kruger when Williamson's writing on the other 3 films is pretty signature 3 just didn't carry the same tone.

It's definitely noticeable in the dialogue. Also the second film had an awesome murder mystery vibe that was made cartoonish in part 3. It felt unbalanced to me.

They had to lighten the tone of Scream 3 due to the Columbine tragedy.

Evil Dead (2013) - 8.5/10
The Evil Dead (1981) - 8.5/10
Room 237 - 9.0/10

I'm watching The Shinning now. I think the original and remake versions of Halloween 1 & 2 will finish up my marathon. I had a great time, I really enjoyed it. Kinda wish I got through a few more films though.

As I fully learned as well from watching Still Screaming, though more comedic or not the story for 3 just didn't work as well as the first two for me, the 4th was good but something about the others being set in the 90's just feels right to me.

I'm onto an 80's favorite with the legendary Tom Atkins, Maniac Cop.

Just clocked Evil Dead 2013 after thinking it was so-so in theaters and liked it a lot more this time around. Some clunky dialogue and characters aside it's almost as relentless and unforgiving as the original. I liked it a lot and it stand proudly next to the first 3.

Just re-watched evil dead (original). I can't believe how great it is specially for the shoestring budget it had. I love the creepy stop-motion at the end. I know that part 2 is considered the best one by many but I never got into it, I don't like the comedy and silliness it was going for. For me as cheap as the make-up is on the first one, that cheapness gives it another layer of creepiness. All the messy, bloody, greasy make-up made it look more visceral specially ash's sister. The shots of her peaking through the basement door with the white eyes and the bloody mouth while snarling and taunting are really nightmarish. Its definitely one of my fav horror movies.

I could see that , but it starts out with the brutal death of Cotton Weary. Then we move onto a bunch of caricatures. It also felt out of tone with Sidney's psychological terror subplot.

Yeah I guess that's true.

I really want to see the other version where Stu came back (whether it was his ''twin'' or an actor that looked like him LOL).

Like Parker Posey just going all over place, as she tends to do with everything she does, and then for no good reason....

Out comes Jay and Silent Bob

What was the Scream/Halloween screw up again? Halloween H20 shows a part from Scream and Scream 2 shows a part from Halloween H20, right?

I remember the original Halloween being on at the party in Scream.

Yeah, but there is a moment somewhere in Halloween H20 that seemed to be bent on destroying the space time continuum. haha.

Ah yeah I get you now.

I guess that's why they were watching Scream 2, so they wouldn't see their Principle on tv. Lol.

Man, Hellbound: Hellraiser II is gruesome, brutal stuff. I almost can't finish it. This could go up against the Saw films in a Pepsi Challenge any day.

People seem to forget that Josh Hartnett is kind of a Horror icon:

Halloween: H20
The Faculty
The Black Dahlia
30 Days of Night

What's this about space time?

In Halloween H20, they are watching Scream 2.

In the first Scream, they are watching Halloween at the party.

So, imagine that the people in H20 have already watched Scream 1 and have seen the party scene at the end...

I never actually thought of that inconsistency, of course it takes a lot of thought to notice it wow. Strayed from horror for a moment and watched It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with my stepdaughter I think I may be up for some Critters afterwards.
