The Horror Thread - Part 6

I enjoyed Krampus when it came out last year but I liked it even more when I revisited it last night. I think once it enters the basic-cable rotation in another year or two, it will be well loved.

Felt the same this past weekend when I re-watched it. Not only does it hold up incredibly well, but it's genuinely a really well made movie.

I agree, I don't think we need an in-depth prequel on Freddy before he became an invader of dreams. Speaking of Freddy's Dead, what a spectacular way to completely ruin a character. You go from this great mystery surrounding how he got his powers to learning these "Dream People" (as Freddy himself calls it :whatever:) approach him before he's barbecued. He gets their powers....and still gets burnt to death. WTF? :loco:

But anyway, the Robert Englund as Freddy ship has long since sailed. Whenever Freddy reappears, we need a new actor that's not Englund....or Jackie Earle Haley.

I think it'd almost be easier to just create a new horror icon. and let Freddy stay dead. no character actor names really jump out to me. Englund was relatively unknown when he got the role.

I still say Roberto Lombardi

I actually brought up the idea of a Freddy movie focusing on his days as the Springwood Slasher here a few years ago. And someone here informed me that they'd actually talked to Robert Englund at a con about a film like that. Englund had said that he'd be all for doing it, and that there were talks about doing one, but the deal just never came together ultimately.

Also you wouldn't have to delve into his motivations specifically much. It's just a movie about his life as a serial killer, that's all.

That was me who talked to Robert Englund. He said that the movie would have focused on the investigation of the murders, with Freddy being mostly In the background for the first half of the movie. Then when he's caught it would have focused on the trial. Then the movie would have ended with Freddy's release and eventual burning. It sounded like it would have been a pretty cool movie.

I've also been advocating for a Nightmare On Elm Street prequel. Chris R Notarile of Blinky Productions has made a series of short films about Freddy's days as The Springwood Slasher. They were very good IMO, and could be fleshed out into a great feature length film.

I'm still hopeful that it might happen some day.

Are you familiar with the Freddy's Nightmares TV series? While hard to find, (it does air on certain networks now if I remember), there was an episode called No More Mr. Nice Guy. It was basically Freddy's Origin, minus the Dream Deom stuff introduced in Freddy's Dead. Is it good?...it's ok. It's directed by Tobe Hooper, and it really keeps Englund as Freddy in the shadows. It does come off kind of cheesy, like Freddy driving around in an ice cream truck, and the technicality he is freed on being as simple as the cop who catches him fails to read him his rights. And the courtroom scene is pretty bizarre.

Still, it's worth a look, because besides the little bits in the films, its the closest you'll get to a full origin story on film.

You can watch the entire first season here:

Incidentally, while the pilot episode might have strayed from the established story canon from the original movie, it was still pretty good. Also the bit about Freddy driving an ice cream truck didn't come completely out of the blue. In Marvel Comics' first issue of the A Nightmare On Elm Street comic, which the official Elm Street website lists as being at least partially canon, Freddy drove an ice cream truck. And TBH It makes perfect sense as his preferred victims were children. What better bait to trap little kids with than ice cream?

Siren was pretty good. It is a feature version of the V/H/S segment 'Amateur Night'.

The succubus Lilth is a good movie monster.

I'm watching Cabin Fever. I've never seen it before but I heard it was the best horror movie of 2002.:o

Really? that trailer didn't sell me at all and I loved that segment. I might have to check it out then.

Watched critically acclaimed Korean Zombies on a train film train to busan. The film lived up to the hype. It reminded me of Snowpiecer and Shaun Of The Dead in some parts. I liked the fast moving rage zombies (ala 28 Days/Weeks Later and World War Z).

Some good action set pieces. If your a fan of Zombie movies this is worth a watch.

Watched "Beyond The Gates" last night, it's about two brothers that find an 80s board game with a VHS tape (for those of you that played "Atmosfear" back in the day, it's pretty much that). It's like a horror version of Jumanji, it's an indy film so don't expect mind boggling effects. I appreciated the practical effects.

My favorite horror films of the year were easily Don't Breathe and Hush. I normally don't care for home invasion movies but those two really got it right.

Yeah I just saw Train to Busan, it's so damn good.

Also I saw Rob Zombie's 31... it was pretty awful (although not as awful as Lords of Salem). The only thing I liked about it was Richard Brake who was pretty much playing a horrifying Joker.

What is the name of the movie where a bunch of scientists find Santa Claus frozen in the ice, and then when they thaw him out Santa wakes up and starts killing everyone? I think it was a German movie?

That sounds amazing. :funny:

Sounds like Finnish movie Rare Exports.

If there is a foreign Christmas horror movie involving Santa or Krampus then it is usually from one of the Nordic countries.

That's the one, thanks. I remembered seeing it mentioned on this thread a year or so ago, but forgot what it was called. Here's the trailer:

I've found a couple of great websites where you can stream and download movies for free. They are www.fmovies.to and www.xmovies8.tv. Hopefully Rare Exports will be available on one of them.

I like this idea. Make for a really good story and a way better origin than the newest nightmare movie. Where can I find these short films? YouTube???

Yep. You can also see them on Blinky Productions' website if you prefer. I've even put the short films together in a playlist in order of the events that take place, rather than the order the videos came out. I'll post a YT link later on.

Thank you sir, never heard of these before but really interested to see them

Has anybody heard any details on the new Halloween Michael Myers movie. I haven't heard anything in months and hope the project hasn't stalled or been dropped completely
