Watched Cronenburg's the Fly a while back. One of my favourite horror movies! Awesome make up work and terrific performances from Goldblum and Davis!

I don't think that anyone could have pulled it off as well as Goldblum. it's like the role was waiting for his quirky-yet-charming acting style.

And would be a completely unnecessary change to his whole characterization. Freddy isn't a hero, none of these characters are. And they shouldn't be marketed as such either.

Honestly if they were going to do the whole "was he actually guilty or not" nonsense "mystery," then they should have just gone ahead and had him turn out to be innocent. It would have been dumb and awful, but then again trying to do the "mystery angle" was already dumb and awful to begin with. At least here, there'd have been some kind of payoff for it.

As it stands, it was "surprise, the answer is exactly what you already knew that it was going to be going in, he did it." What a freaking surprise. Wow movie, way to waste over an hour of our time for THAT!!

The plot should have had Freddy as a socially awkward janitor at school who was mercilessly harrassed by the students.
One day the kids decide to play a prank on Freddy that backfires with him dying in a furnace explosion.
His soul/spirit arises and tortures and murders those kids in their dreams.
He then continues to haunt the 'bullies' of the world.

See what I would have done is made him a family man that killed his family and got away with it and came to elm street and got a job at the school and after a few years started killing kids the Freddy voice in his head drove him to keep killing and then instead of killing just the kids he started killing the mothers too and raping them in front of their kids until the town rallied against him and burnt him alive and then we see a devil figure cut a deal with him once he found out the parents made the kids forget about him.

I understand where you're coming from, it was pointless to introduce the "is he or isn't he" angle but at the same time, it'd be even worse to suddenly make Freddy the hero when the whole purpose of his character is that he's the ultimate bully.

Fans would lose their minds if that happened.

I agree. Which is why I wouldn't have done that angle with it to begin with. But at least here, it'd have had an actual payoff. And I'd prefer that to it being completely pointless and a waste of time.

Basically a polished turd, instead of just a normal turd.

I'll take the normal turd over turning Freddy into a hero for $500, Bob.

Happy 30th Anniversary today to one of the best horror sequels of all time, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors!

The Dream Master is a fun flick but by that point Freddy really has lost any ability to be frightening.

Freddy getting resurrected by a dog peeing. I bet his demon buddies had a good laugh or two about that one.

How do you guys feel about "New Nightmare" and how it holds up today,

How do you guys feel about "New Nightmare" and how it holds up today,

It's my third favorite of the series. I think it holds up extremely well even if the third act is it's weakest point, I think its fantastic. Wes was very ambitious with his idea for that film.

Yeah, New Nightmare is almost like an early template for SCREAM.

Yeah I think that it still holds up well overall. And you can see Craven's love of going "meta" with his horror really started to grow (he'd shown flashed of it before, but here it was really noticeable). Which of course set the stage for Scream.

Plus it finally have Freddy his balls back as a scary horror villain after he'd been a joke for so long.

Definitely agreed. I rewatched it again after a very long time and loved it. I love how Freddy isn't even in it a lot, but is this looming presence just waiting to pop out.

With Scream being my favourite horror franchise, it's no surprise that I love New Nightmare so much.

My "minor fanboy nitpick" for that movie would be, it was a shame that we never got to see "Freddy" interact with either Wes or Robert Englund.

Train To Busan is probably the best zombie movie I've seen in awhile.
