Michael Wincott also recently played Gein in "Hitchcock" and did a pretty good job I thought. I recommend "Deranged" to horror fans, great performance by Roberts Blossom.

I had no idea they were going to have Gein in that film and Wincott was fantastic. Despite only having a few scenes that is definitely one of his best performances.

Since we were talking about horror video games a little bit ago. Did anyone else find the Friday the 13th game on the original NES to be bull ****? I remember that game being hard as hell.

I remember seeing it for rent in the video stores but I never bothered to try and play it. I had heard it was lame and so I didn't waste my time or money. I suppose every gaming system has a game like that. Atari had E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, NES had Friday The 13th, and SNES had A Nightmare On Elm Street. I pretty much stopped playing video games after SNES, so I don't know about the other gaming disasters that have come out since.

I owned that game. I never saved anyone and could never beat Jason. ****ing hard game. Tried it again a while ago. I was worse than when I was a kid.

I always thought a game that is similar to Heavy Rain would work really good in terms of a horror/slasher type game. You gotta run away from the killer and successfully press the buttons on the screen in order to do it, you die, and you move on to the next character.

I have to say Outlast looks terrific.

I know we have a thread for this, but is anyone looking forward to that new Chucky movie?

I am. They did the right thing by returning the series to it's roots and distancing itself from the last two films.

That game was horrible. It took me forever to figure out and I could never defeat Jason in the last battle. I discovered James Rolfe -The Angry Video Game Nerd while trying to look the game up on youtube. He does a funny review.

To get back to the subject of Horror Films, I'd kinda like to see some sequels/prequels of Jeepers Creepers. While I didn't find the first two particularly scary, they were fun action romps.

While sequels could be fun, setting them in 2026, 2049, 2072, etc, I think it might be more interesting to set them in the past. JC3 is set in 1980, JC4 is set in 1957, JC5 is set in 1934, etc. Go back far enough, one year of the Creeper's reign is in 1888 (the year of Jack The Ripper's reign of terror). The possibilities are endless.

I was so pissed watching Jeepers Creepers. It started out well enough, but when you think you have this cool an scary killer, it turns out that he's some weird monster thing.

Jeepers Creepers annoyed me too. Mostly because the characters were unabashed idiots and the story was so promising but fell so far from its potential to me. Mainly because of the really corny dialogue and acting. I remember several scenes of the sister repeatedly calling out for him to not do something only to do it and prove what a moron the character was to ignore obvious danger.

Probably it does not help I'm not a fan of Justin Long.

The first one was pretty good, only seen bits from the second one. I like the monster, not quite a horror icon though. Are they still making a third?

Jeepers Creepers 2 had an interesting concept. A horror film in a school bus is pretty unique IMO

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but who would you guys consider horror's top 5 icons? When you look at the old school icons I would probably say Dracula is at the top of the list. With the "newer" icons,Freddy Krueger is the greatest in my eyes. My list may go like this...

1.Dracula(or the vampire)
2.Freddy Krueger(king of the slashers,imo)
3.Frankenstein
4.The Wolf-Man(or werewolf)
5.Jason Voorhees

I prefer the second Jeepers Creepers film over the first one immensely. I enjoyed the Moby Dick influence, the technology used against the creeper, and overall any scene with the Taggarts.

I thought the second one was better too although I still felt they could've done more with it, none of the characters were particulary annoying that I can recall and the story was good.

I'd probably watch a third one if they could write up a decent sequel.

That's pretty accurate IMO. I might replace Wolf-Man with Leatherface, not because I prefer one over the other, but because every haunted house I go to has people with chainsaw's with a Leatherface vibe. It seems pretty popular

Number 3, are you talking about the monster or the scientist?

Anyway.

1. Dracula/Vampires
2. Freddy Krueger
3. Wolfman/Werewolves
4. Jason Voorhees
5. Frankenstein's monster

My Favorite Horror Icons

1. Wolfman (Universal, Hammer, recent reboot)
2. Dracula (Universal, Hammer, Coppola Adaptation)
3. Michael Myers.
4. Freddy Kruger
5. Jason Voorhees
6. Creature from Black Lagoon

I would add zombies to the list, somehow. There is no single zombie (unlike Dracula or the Wolf-Man for example) which is the point (mindless horde) but as a collective monster they are more popular than ever. In fact the closest I can think of would be the Mummy which is only kind of the same in it's a reanimated corpse. Then again, so is Frankenstein's monster, albeit in a more direct way.

I was considering adding zombies, but they are too much of a group for me.

As for continuing that list, Myers and Chucky are both sorta even. Myers is scary as **** and Halloween I is incredible. Chucky has a great personality and his movies are fun.

8. Jigsaw w/ puppet
9. The Mummy
10. Leatherface
11. Invisible Man
12. Creature from the Black Lagoon
13. Ghostface

I haven't seen a single Hellraiser film yet so I can place Pinhead on this list. I don't know if I'm missing anyone else.

I kinda enjoyed both of them. Not my favourite horror movie by a long shot, but certainly watchable. I do agree that Justin Long's character in the first movie was a total idiot. He got what he deserved in the end. It's called natural selection.

My favourite Horror Icons . . .

1) Michael Myers

2) Jason Voorhees

3) Freddy Krueger

4) Leatherface

5) Dracula/Vampires

6) Zombies

7) Angela (from Sleepaway Camp)

8) Wolfman/Werewolves

9) Frankenstein's Monster

10) Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates in Psycho

I haven't seen any of the Hellraiser movies yet. I understand the first one is on Netflix right now. I've been thinking of watching it sometime soon. If I like it, I might include Pinhead to my list.

Horror Icons? There are so many different takes on some of these characters its unreal. For me its...

1. Frankenstein (Hammer) Pretty much the first time we see the doctor trump the monster as a horror icon.

2. Romero zombies - Redefine the genre.

3. The Mummy (Hammer) - The first of the unstoppable foes. The mummy is shot, hacked at and Peter Cushing puts a spear through him... and he still keeps coming. Plus Lee rising up out of the mud is downright iconic. THIS MOVIE COMES ON TCM ON JULY 20th.

4. Michael Myers - Its funny to hear JC talk about Hammers mummy movies inspiring MM to a degree. We get the silent killer who seems unstoppable. I actually like Jason more but in my mind MM is more iconic.

5. Dracula (Hammer) God how I wish Dracula would go back to being a bad ass and not the sappy lover. I didn't even like the old Bela Drac. He always seemed like a cheesy waiter to me. Christopher Lee was such an evil Dracula it was awesome. Most of the time it was just his image alone that would work for viewers as he had didn't have much to say in those movies.

HM to Norman Bates, Regan, Jason, Jaws and The Ring

Sadly, I have become burned out on zombies, due to the cultural saturation we are experiencing at this point (it is worse than vampires.) Looking back, my opinions of the Romero films (that I have seen) changed. When I was younger, I preferred Dawn of the Dead over Night of the Living Dead. However, as I matured and became more knowledgeable about film, the pairing reversed: Night is my favorite, because of the terrific lighting and cinematography; having said that, I prefer the characters in 'Dawn' over those in Night, if that makes sense, from the openly subjective viewpoint.
