I saw the Conjuring last night. It is pretty good. The movie does a really good job of introducing all of its characters including the family that lives in the haunted house as well as the Warrens, the paranormal investigators. It is really easy, if you are willing to, put yourself in the necessary headspace to level with these characters and feel fear on their behalf. This is something so many horror films fail at with offputting or non-existent characters that instead render waiting around for people to die the only entertainment value of the film.
This movie actually took an interesting turn as I was expecting it to be more of a ghost movie, which it certainly is but it kind of morphed into something else. This movie does not hold back. They may say that the film was aiming for a pg13 but man this thing continually ramps up the intensity throughout the film and really by the end I agree that it earns its R rating. I was really surprised with how far they took certain things. In recent horror films, such as The Possession I've been disappointed by how mundane things remain almost throughout the film, not the case here. James Wan really knows how to build a scene. There are a few elements that kind of come off as red herrings and some odd dead ins on the side but those side plots are still really entertaining. For those who liked Wan's Insidious I think you'll definitely like this but for those who weren't much for that film I think that you'll still like this film. Its a bit more straight forward and serious than Insidious was. I expect this film to have pretty good word of mouth and do quite well for itself, or at least it deserves to. I highly recommend this movie for a night out with friends.

Hey guys. Look what I just got.

Awesome... I love that flick. Is it out on blu ray now?

all i remember from that movie is Nilbog and the kid peeing all over the dinner table. that's not to say that it's bad, though. my favorite lame movie is Silver Bullet. it's a werewolf movie aimed at kids. but i find it highly watchable. there are some geniune moments of suspense within. plus, Gary Busey.

Aimed at kids my ass. There was quite a bit of violence in that one.

Gary Busey was great in it though.

"That's some ******** luck! ******** LUCK!" sucking back a bottle of hooch.

I see a lot of people freaking about the Rex Reed VHS 2 review. This is the same guy who called Melissa McCarthy a female hippo, clearly he is an ******* who revels in the delight of being "controversial." I don't know why people pay him any attention.

I would still put F13th over most because there were 4 good movies before hitting a bump at 5. Then zombie Jason took over and was still pretty good for 2 movies.

Halloween 5 had MM go out on a date and I just can't forgive that.

I would go back to the Hammer Frankenstein movies as being the best. Its pretty much The Reanimator and always found a way to end up being cool. Part 2 was my favorite because you almost think he's turned into a good person because he's started up a hospital for the poor. Then you find out the people are missing limbs.

I'd agree with most of this. Although I would disagree with Zombie Jason being good for 2 movies. Jason Lives was the only one that was half way decent. After that it was all down hill.

As for Halloween 5? Michael Myers was always a cunning maniac, stealing cars & such. The concept of him switching masks to lure a victim into a false sense of security isn't all that off putting to me. However I did find Halloween 4 to be slightly more suspenseful than Part 5. Which is in turn far better than The Curse Of Michael Myers. But yeah, Halloween only really has three good movies. Parts 1, 2, and H20.

Thundarr, I always thought your avatar looked familiar. With all this F13 talk I realized what it was. :awesome:

I already have that movie on DVD. Watch it every December. Does the Special Edition have any good bonus features?

Which one do you have? If it's the 25th Anniversary, the features are exactly the same.

I'm going to check it out this weekend! I'm really looking forward to it.

No love for Jason Takes Manhattan? Love that film. Caught it at a midnight viewing last year and had a hell of a good time watching it on the big screen finally.

Just watched an 80s euro-horror called Faceless. Pretty long and boring, but the gore was cool.

Yup! Jimbo's "Dead F**k Dance" from The Final Chapter. One of my favourite parts of that movie. I totally :lmao: every time I watch that scene.

Nope, no love at all. None of the characters were particularly likeable. It was called "Jason Takes Manhatten" when 75% of the movie takes place on a ship. It should've been called "Jason Takes A Cruise". Plus Jason was teleporting ahead of his fleeing victims in this movie. It's rediculous enough that he's a zombie, and that he always seems to catch up to his prey by walking after them. Did he really need to teleport as well?

About the only thing I really enjoyed about the movie was spotting the scenes shot here in Vancouver. All the subway scenes, for example, were shot on Vancouver's Skytrain and in the Skytrain stations (the one with the really long escalators is Granville Street Station). And Kane's performance as Jason was excellent as always. But that's about it.

I'd like to see Derek Mears do another movie too. I like his Jason.

I really like Tyler Mane as Michael Myers, too.

I liked Derek's take on the "Hillbilly/Hunter" Jason. It reminded me of the performances in Parts 3 & 4, which IMO were the scariest Jasons of the series.

I don't know about Tyler Mane's performance as Michael Myers though. I didn't care much for the remakes (hell, I f**kin' hate them), but that's really more due to RZ's crappy writing and directing abilities than Tyler's performance.

Kane Hodder is the best Jason. I hope he gets to do it again.

He is also just an awesome guy all around.

I met Kane Hodder at a convention in St. Louis. It was a pretty small convention so there were no lines or anything and I actually got to just kind of hang out and talk to him for close to an hour.

Hodder also just kind of walked around the con for a while carrying a legit machete. At one point in time he slammed it down on a table right next to some former porn stars arm. She was not pleased.

He's actually going to be at the same convention again this August, along with F13 VII director and special effects artist John Carl Buechler, who is my father's cousin but whom I've never met. I am very excited.

I don't like the Halloween remake either, apart from Mane and Brad Dourif.

Have you seen this yet?

Yup... she's hot as hell but the movie is just OK. Its a little CW/ LMN for me. Its has a little bit of a twist ending so people will make it out to be better than it really is.
