Curiosity question ( I saw Hunger Games I and II and III part I but I am no fan ) : are the movies faithful to the books or they are a loosely adaption ?

they're pretty faithful. there has been one major change that i can think of, but it didn't detract from the films and would've skyrocketed the budget for all the films possibly

in the books, Peeta loses a leg in the Hunger Games. i want to say from injuries and/or blood loss? been like 6 years since i read it

and catching fire pretty much ended exactly as the book did. which made you go !!!

I saw it tonight. Much stronger film than Part 1. Depressing as all hell, but the book was too. It was pretty faithful from what I remember, but Mockingjay should have just been one movie.

i saw it last night, my second favorite after Catching Fire.

it was very faithful to the books from what i recall, and Tiger Lady looked even better than what i was picturing. i too agree that it didn't need to be split into 2 films. Malone was great in her screen time, i kinda wish she had more of it.

i would've been fine without the epilogue, but it shows that the story has ended. some of the scenes were tastefully done imo, and i'm glad they were done the way they were.

That's still a lot of money but on a conscious and sub-conscious level, everyone's prepping for Star Wars. Heck, I'm not even feeling the hype for The Good Dinosaur (there are other factors though, including the concept, Inside Out stealing its thunder, and the film's production problems.)

For example, I completely forgot that Mockingjay came out this week. And there's a part of me that loves the franchise but feels it sorta overstayed its welcome. I enjoyed the past movies and the books, but I've moved on, and it feels like the cast has too.

They should've just made 3 movies.

I don't think Star Wars has anything to do with it, MJ part 1 simply didn't hold people's attention and now people are skeptical about going to see part 2.

I don't know, Aliens did the sewer scene much better. It was better directed, it was more suspenseful, more intense, better sound, and better realistic acting reaction to non-CGI monsters.

Just saw this and overall Part 2 was a let down. The final 30 minutes was the best, which isn't saying much.

I agree the 3rd book which was the weakest out of the trilogy and the shortest was needlessly split into two movies. They really stretched out the source material so thinly that both movies draaaaaaged and as a consequence most pivotal scenes lost their intensity, poignancy, and impact for me.

The first two movies were far superior. This could've been a strong movie trilogy if they didn't split the last book into two movies.

I think the reduced box office weekends for Part 1 ($121M) and Part 2 ($101M) will make rival studios rethink the "2-part finale" strategy in the future. Lionsgate could've maintained the franchise's $150M+ o.w. streaks if Mockingjay was made as one film.

I guess they're still theory making more money though unless part 1 and 2 had two deeper are budgets. Plus then you have to do two marketing campaign which is about 100 million each.

For me it was a turn off because Catching Fire already had a cliffhanger, while Mockingjay Part 1 just ended abruptly.

I liked this one. Not having read the books I thought the "twist" was great.

I like most others will say though that dividing it into two films was a bad idea and can't help but think that it's contributed to its lower box office take...all the momentum that was built up after 'Catching Fire" fizzled out after everyone saw the waste of a time that was "Mockingjay Part I".

It was great and the movies are extremely well done and you can tell there's alot of passion and love behind em. However that said, I have to agree that maybe two movies was too much. I don't know if I would've enjoyed just a two hour movie either though

I cannot believe some people thought this was going to be as big as Star Wars The Force Awakens, or somehow predict that this means trouble for that franchise.

It's because people have literally forgotten how big Star Wars is, especially the goodwill of this newest installment, potentially reclaiming the quality of the original movies. I really do blame the prequels for two things:

- Making Star Wars into some 'another' franchise.

- And by making it into 'just another' franchise, there are some kids out there who have never seen any of them, or bought into the hype. When I was a kid, Star Wars was a childhood MUST. Not anymore.

It was a mistake making these into two movies. The pacing in both films is a serious issue. It should've just been one 3 hour film with a lot of the useless fat and bloat cut out of it.

The box office for this suffered because the movie quality suffered when they split it into two unnecessary movies. Too much filler and bad pacing.

Star Wars will do well for the obvious reasons and the promise of a good movie.

I really thought Part 2 would be better than Part 1, but right now I'm more meh with Part 2. The last twenty minutes felt so abrupt and I just hated how the "war" at the Capitol ended and it was explanations galore after that. After seeing the film, I think it would have been better (critically) if they didn't split Mockingjay and there wouldn't be a lot of slow moments.
