The Infinite Crisis Thread (SPOILERS)

Is there anyway, to bring back the multi-verse???

Someone asked Dan if they would. He said "We did!...Then we took it away"

He basically said Earth 2 wouldnt stay forever, it makes no sense to keep it.

Of course, isn't the CSA earth in the Qwardian universe Earth-2 now? (or Earth 1, according to that world's Lex Luthor).

Just curious, but why does anyone in here like the multi-verse? Opinions please.

Because it gives you a chance to tell stories that you would never be able to in the regular continuity. You think Kingdom Come could have been written without an elseworld? Or Superman Red Son? The Nail? It's an option. The real question is why wouldn't anybody like the multi-verse?

I wouldn't have a problem with the multiverse if I could still have the JSA and the JLA, and all of the other teams on the same Earth, in the same continuity. Multiverse would just be a place to tell alternate stories. For me, anyway.

That's the way it's pretty much been since the Crisis, which is the way it should stay.

No more Elseworlds simply put is bull****, its a horrible move, and wont last long.

Wait a minute... They're not going to do Elseworlds anymore? Since when?

Think DC will still make 'alternate future' - type stories? Hell, "Titans of Tommorrow" is the reason why Teen Titans is in my pull box. DKR came out before the concept of Elseworld was concieved. Alternate history stories can change the basic concept of a character, i.e. Superman's ship landed in Russia(Red Son), but alternate future stories can elaborate more on a character. I mean, let's face it, by the time Tim is Batman, we'll all be dust.

It was announced somewhere, its in another thread.

Well, that's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. Some of DC's best stories are Elseworlds!

It was from an interview.

I just came back from my first Crisis Councilling/ DC Nation panel with DC comics exec pres Dan Didio and artists such as Greg Rucka, Gail Simone etc present at it.

Dan said some interesting stuff about the present and future of DC comics;

- 'Elseworlds' is officially discontinued. Currently they arent going to do anymore Elseworld stories since it draws attention away from the real main versions of the characters (the postcrisis versions). After Infinite Crisis, they are going to only focus on the one earth and its going to be a much tighter continuity.

- Birthright WILL be replaced as the official origins for Superman after IC. Instead of bring back MOS though, there will be a totally new origins story that will be more respectful to continuity than Birthright was, thus all the 'Smallville-esque' elements will be removed but the origins will still be Silver-age inspired, to draw in fans of the classic stuff.

- The 'Up up and Away' series is apparently a tie-in with Superman Returns

- Infinite Crisis was designed to be the final goodbye to all the past incarnations of the characters, from now on they will only focus on the one main earth and the characters in it. We'll never see any classic versions again.

- The 52 will be bigger than IC and feature practically every single character in the DCU. They spoiled that the end of the 52 would be revealed in the first issue and around issue 40; the context of that ending would be understood.

- Ted Kord's brutal death was designed that way to make sure fans realize that he will never, ever return.

- Robin's new costume was inspired off the Teen Titans animated series.

- They refused to comment whether Diana would continue to be Wonder Woman in the future.....that was a bit unsettling.

It's because with the multi-verse...it's a place where you can make your horizons expand with possibility. Where you can read one DC book and then make up the same characters in your mind and jot it down on pen and throw in everything from bikini clad women to the killing off every character or reborn character you like....
if you like say plastic man...but wonder what could happen if...he didn't get stretching powers...but the powers to blow things up....you can make that possible in the multi-verse....
at least that's what it is to me...a place where I can wonder....and speculate..and dream of a story I like better then what sometimes, DC or Marvel spit out.
hope that's enlightening...

I'm glad that they're throwing out Birthright, but no more Elseworlds? I just can't back that. And I like to see the classic characters every now and again :(

It was actually a panel at the Toronto Comic-con. Thats where Dan and the writers were present at. They took questions and suggestions and asked for some feedback.

The highlight of the con was meeting George Perez and getting the classic crisis issues signed.

Nope. Birthright is out. I asked Dan this question at the panel myself (mainly cause I dont like Smallville TV stuff in the comics).

He said theyre going to do a new origins story thats silver-age inspired but I dont think it will boldly contradict the existing postcrisis history like Birthright did. (since thats the main point of doing the origins over again, to avoid another BR situation, make continuity tighter).

I have an educated guess that the origins will be reflective of the SR origins since the first Donner film used a very silver age esque origins story and SR simply just updates it to fit the present.

Oh, Dan also said Jason Todd isnt leaving after the Crisis. They said they were very happy with how his storyarc turned out and are planning to keep him around for a long time.

I never read the Todd arc. Was it that good?

What the hell???? Birthright was fine were it is I mean the only SV thing from it was the Kents age. But hey its what ever. What I would really love is for Alex Ross to do the new origin. Not only would the art be good but you would also have a great story as well for it. Though I doubt that would ever happen it would sure be nice.

Aside from the current Nightwing arc, the Jason Todd stuff has been very good.
