My girlfriend stuck this movie on randomly the other day, I remember loving it as a kid and realised that I still love it, IMO a truly underrated movie. Any other fans out there?

Still my favorite animated movie aside from Mask of the Phantasm.

It's a masterpiece, IMO. I've been a Brad Bird fangirl ever since this movie, and he has yet to let me down.

"Superman."

Gets me everytime. :waa:

Amazing that there is still no blu ray of this movies.

Probably why we haven't seen a Blu-ray release for this film is because Warner Bros would have to admit thier mistake.

During production Brad Bird gave the executives the middle finger refusing to listen to and change the movie to their requests. To get back at him they barely marketed the film and the film basically went strait to home video; a month or so after its theatrical release. They ended his multiple picture deal.
This film won the Annie Award that year for best animated feature. I believe it would of won best animated film at the Oscars if that category existed at the time.

I'm not surprised that there is no Blu-ray release.

Seven years ago Brad Bird gave a podcast interview before the release of Rattatouille basically saying that Chef Skinner was Don Bluth and Remy the rat represented him and the other young artists that came in the studio that had talent and drove out the old guy that really didn't deserve to be on top only because he paid his dues to be there. Don Bluth actually fired Brad because he stood up to him.

I do remember HDnet showing The Iron Giant in HD, so technically there is one out there floating online.

I always loved this movie. It has got to be like the most underrated animated movie of all time.

Before Groot, Vin Diesel was The Iron Giant.

It was the first DVD I ever bought.

Am I the only one who thinks the movie does not really have a happy ending? The robot came from space to kill everyone, most likely for the minerals. There could potentially be millions of them and if more than one shows up, we be boned. SHould his programming revert, we be boned. If one was sent to Earth specifically and was supposed to report back within a specific time frame and they send more? Basically, we be boned after the movie ends no matter what.

What :doh::doh::doh:

What? Here's a deleted scene from the movie that's about the robots memory of doing exactly that.

Wow. That actually totally changes the nature of the titular character.

Should have left that in.

That doesn't change much for me. Even if there was an supposed invasion, maybe the giant was a scout who can no longer report back so no invasion. And if others came there's now a protector.

I always wondered what the giant would do after the events of the movie.

You know? This is the best Superman movie to ever hit the silver screen.

Sooo-pah-maaaan!! *kablooey*

How every Superman movie should end.

I mean, the Iron Giant gets more of the optimism and inspiration that Superman represents more than any movie of the titular character that I have seen. So, in that regard, yes. Best Superman movie ever in cinema.

What didn't you like about it?

I didn't dislike it. I just thought it was somewhat dull and severely overhyped by people on the internet (a real shocker) who keep talking about how AMAZING it is. Just like the people who go on and on about Firefly.

It's not AMAZING. It's okay.

Firefly is comically overrated, but I actually thought this was a very good movie.

Up there with Disney, really. Before it went off the rails, I mean.
