Bravo Marvel .... seriously, 2 films in the Top 10 grossers of all time and they've only been a film studio for a little over half of a decade

I think people are underestimating a Justice League film's potential.

If you have a bad ass superbowl trailer with Flash, Wonder Woman and Superman fighting a powerful super-villain with Batman peering and planning in the background, you're looking at Iron Man 3 worldwide numbers easily if the movie is decent.

of course it's being underestimated...look at where we are. Iron Man's current success should remind us not to write off anything, cause no one predicted IM making a billion dollars a decade ago.

Even 4 years ago no one thought Iron Man would be bigger than Spider-man and Batman.

I thought it had the potential, but I had little faith that the franchise would find the right actor and crew to get there. A lot had to go right, and it usually doesn't. But if I was to pick one Marvel character to make the jump to A-List (Spider-Man & Wolverine were already there), Tony Stark would have been the one. Bigger than Spider-Man, like he is now? Even I didn't think that though.

I don't underestimate a Justice League film that had Christian Bale in it. That's not going to happen, or at least is very unlikely.

Right now WB has no plan and a script they threw out. Avengers and Iron Man had years of pre-planning and thought that went into it. WB can't throw something together and think that its going to work just because it has Superman and batman in it.

Back to box-office talk. Looks like IM3 will get an additional 25-27 million for the 4 day weekend. So much for the competition snuffing out this film. It continues to show Strom legs.

Yeah 2 in the top 5 & Avengers 2 is gonna smash past Avengers..probably $2B worldwide on the cards.

Domestic: $367,506,000 32.2%+
Foreign: $774,800,000 67.8%
= Worldwide: $1,142,306,000

Officially IM3 is the 5th biggest movie of all time (WW).

I Just hope it finishes at 450M domestic.

I think WB would be smart if they did "World's Finest" before JL and then build from there.

Nice. Probably as high as it gets on the worldwide ranking but plenty of gas left in the tank to make that 5th place more solid.

I don't see it passing Deathly Hallows but seeing how much money this movie is making is nice.

I agree. It needs $200m more to at least match Deathly Hallows 2 worldwide. But $1.25bn ($450m + $800m) is a good final number for IM3. It's right smack in the middle of 4th and 6th positions in terms of box office totals :yay:

Glad to see IM3 hit number 5 all time, it might make it to number 4, maybe, I personally plan on seeing it for a 3rd time tomorrow. For all the hate it gets here on the boards, it seems to be going over really well with non-comic fans, everyone I work with has seen it and all loved it, my bosses son has seen it twice with his friends.
As for the DC plans, to be honest, I have had this discussion with my brother who follows all sorts of news and such, he has always been of the opinion that Warner and DC really don't care all that much about what the fans want, they typically stick to their bread and butter properties Batman and Superman. A good example of DC not really having a clue is Smallville, they refused to let the producers and writers even mention Bruce Wayne or Wonder Women, and they wanted to, granted Smallville introduced many DC heroes and villains, with Arrow they have mandated no super powers. Warner has a bad habit of basically getting in their own way.
To Marvels credit, there seems to be a genuine interest to stay true to source material and listening to the fans, yes IM3 had a twist few here liked, but it worked, I will reserve true judgment on DC after MoS, it looks good, but wonder how much they have changed Superman to make a movie.

I hope IM3 doesn't overtake Avengers as the number 3 film. It shouldn't, and should have difficulty even overtaking Deathly Hallows, but you never know.

I don't think it's of the same quality as Avengers, which rightly belongs as the number 3 film. I don't feel that IM3 should be the number 5 film based on quality alone. Maybe because of its hype.

Don't worry, I can safely say it won't overtake The Avengers (or even Death Hallows 2).

As far as IM3 being #5 while I think better films should be ranked higher than it (LOTR3 comes to mind) I still think it at least deserves to be on top of Transformers 3, which it already surpassed.

It's pretty awesome that Iron Man 3 is still drawing an audience after three weeks in theaters and stiff competition from other franchises. The 3-day weekend take has dropped just 45% from last week, while the 4-day holiday should add another $25M to its coffers. IM3 continues to play well overseas, as well. In the face of an over-blown fan "backlash" the film continues to have an extraordinary run. Once it earns another $66M it will equal the combined worldwide gross of the first two Iron Man films. That will be a remarkable feat, proof that Shane Black and Robert Downey, Jr. created a film that not only satisfied the audience but brought them back for repeat viewings.

If tomorrow IM4 is announced with RDJ coming back as Tony Stark, IM3 can surpass Deathly Hollows 2.

Just got back from seeing it for the 3rd time, and had a big crowd, it was in a smaller theater, maybe a 300 set theater and it was over half full, was only expecting myself and maybe a few others, but was shocked to see it half full, and that was a 10:15 am showing, it was a good crowd, they laughed at the funny parts, and were really into the movie, I admit was very impressed with the turn out.

Hypothetical question: What would you guys do if Thor 2 and Cap 2 make over $1 billion?
Not saying they will...but still how would you react?

A movie doesn't raise over a billion dollars in profits just by pure hype alone, there has to be something else that keeps the general audience coming.

It might be hard for some fanboys to accept, but the general audience seems to like the movie...Mandarin twist notwithsanding.

Hmmm...it won't happen, but i'd be VERY surprised.

Iron man is a special case, RDJ, first unofficial 'sequel' to the Avengers and the fact that the previous two movies were a succes financially and critically.

I think other than Avengers 2 and IM 4, there won't be any CB movies that'll cross that threshold, well, maybe the man of steel sequel...

Went to see STiD last night, and there were still lines for IM3. None for anything else.
