The Jesus Christ Appreciation and Worship Thread

My heart is just aching right now for the issues surrounding Christians and the gay community. While we should never support gay marriage as it’s important not to compromise our beliefs, the way we as Christians keep handling the situation is unbiblical and really only serves the enemy and weakens our position to share the gospel and plant seeds.

More of us need to take a lesson from Jesus conversation with the women at the well. That’s the key word so many of us miss…conversation. Just imagine if Jesus had walked up to her and said “You disgust me. What you are doing is sick. Repent!! Or go to hell.” He KNEW who she was and what she had done, but He didn’t respond to her in that way (the way so common of us Christians nowadays)…he had a conversation with her. He treated her with the respect any human deserves to be given and when he saw an opportunity to plant the seed of the gospel He did and then left her with that so the Holy Spirit could do the work in her.

That’s the problem with us Christians today. WE want to change people, we think we have the power. Not only that, many of us don’t even given the gay community the basic human respect any human should be given. There is a difference between staying firm in your beliefs and dehumanizing a person. Once we dehumanize someone it ceases to be about belief based on the Holy Scripture and instead becomes bigotry. A bigotry born from our own broken heart that disgusts instead of loves. Looks down upon instead of lifts up. Spits upon instead of serving.

Instead of holding up hateful signs and disrespecting others we should meet them at the well and show them love, speak to them and if the opportunity arrives plant the seed that so that the Holy Spirit allow it to grow. And while God does not NEED us to do His work, our current behavior does damage to His name and pushes people farther away from Him. It’s as if we are clouded in confusion and unable to understand the Holy Scripture, we see the issue with such tunnel vision we can’t see how we serve the spirit of enemy instead of the grace, the peace and the gentleness of the one, true Spirit of God.

I agree with the sentiment of this. I think it would be the greater crime to make someone turn away from God because we spat rabid hatred for homosexuality at them, making them think they can never be worthy. But being a very liberal Christian, I will say that I DO approve of gay marriage mainly because it promotes monogamy. While I admit I do have the minority position, I feel God made gay people gay because this pleased Him in some way (He doesn't make mistakes, right?) and they serve His purpose in being so, but they should be just as monogamous as the rest of us. Just my thoughts...

I'm a bit baffled to see a Christian make that statement. I really hope you don't tell homosexuals/lesbians that God thinks it's okay to be that way. Please read your Bible or ask your pastor what the Bible says about this subject.

We should preach the Gospel to everyone and that includes homostexuals and lesbians.

Jesus died for all our sins. I will be the first to admit that I do not deserve his love. But we should never compromise our fate. I feel like many Christians are afraid that they will be called "homophobes" or whatever words they use characterise those that don't adhere to that vile lifestyle. Some have even come to accept homosexuality as "normal". Please brothers (and sisters) in Christ I encourage you preach the Gospel with love and boldness. You might lose some friends make enemies or even worse. But it's better to obey God than man. We know our redeemer lives and he has given us eternal life. He will come back and judge the Nations.

Just keep in mind...if Jesus had responded to the woman at the well the way Christians nowadays respond to the gay community...then instead of that little town in Samaria being brought to God it would have had the very opposite effect.

Yep the union of two consenting adults who are in love is a joke. Two consenting adults shouldnt be allowed to get married unless they have different genitals because we all know genitals and sex are what marriage is all about. It has nothing to do with love or any of that other sappy nonsense. Its all about the gentals and sex.:o

If a person finds someone they want to spend their life with, someone who makes the days a little better and gives them support when they need it then good for them. They should be able to spend their life with that person.

I get it. Paul wasnt a fan of gay sex. Fine. But marriage today is about the union of two consenting people who are in love. This world is ****ed up enough without christians telling other people that they cant spend their life with someone who makes them happy because they dont have the proper genital compatibility.

And before anyone says I dont belong here, I have always appreciated Jesus and his message ( a message that never once says a thing about gay marriage). His sermon on the mount is a great piece of human thought.

I do appreciate Jesus. It seems like he was a nice guy.
 
I'm a spiritual person, but i don't believe in organised religion. I believe it is a form of control. The bible and the ten commandments were man made stories used to scare the simple minded people of the stone ages into doing what they were told.

I believe there is a higher power of some kind. But i do not believe that he or she or it would condone hate towards homosexuals. The people who wrote the Bible might hate homosexuals, but who the **** are they? Oh yea, they are simply men.

If Jesus Christ was a real man, and if the stories about him were true, I do not believe he'd condemn a man or woman to hell simply because they love someone of the same sex. The idea itself is absurd.

Do you realize that you can appreciate a human being and their philosophy without worshiping them? I dont have to get down on my hands and knees or agree with Paul to appreciate Jesus and participate in a community discussion about the guy. Nor do I have to support the hatred or poor judgment of good people to be in here.

I like jesus, I'm cool with him, I'm picking up what he's putting down! I'm not crazy about some of his followers but I appreciate what he talked about and what he tried to do.

The point he was making was this is the Jesus Christ Appreciation and Worship Thread. Not the "Jesus was a nice guy and pretty good teacher,but I don't believe in Him and actively dislike Christians in general" Thread.

You appreciate him your way and Ill appreciate him my way. Jesus never met Paul and he never condoned Paul. I dont agree with Paul and I dont have to agree with Paul to appreciate Jesus. And I dont dislike Christians in general. I dislike bigotry and ignorance and intolerance towards people who arent hurting anyone.
 
Wasn't the sentiment on the last page that you should always preach the Gospel?

Shooing away non-believers with whom you don't wish to converse doesn't seem like the sort of thing of which Paul would have approved.
