Christ In Christmas

CANDY CANES

The candy canes represents the “staff” of the Good Shepherd. Even though many are multi-colored these days, the originals are red and white. The red representing the blood of the Good Shepherd that was shed to save His sheep from certain death. The Shepherd always used his staff (cane) to hook the neck of a sheep that had gone astray. Thus pulling the sheep back to the fold.

But I thought the original candy cane wasnt arch'd at all, nor striped, but just a plain white candy stick.

People in the Old Testament often carried walking sticks, and shepherds used the hooked variety in their work, as well as the staff. So basically, both types of candy canes are modeled after that.

Now it's xmas instead of "christmas". What a crap.:cmad:

Fear not O' Eggy one.....

Xmas has a deeper origin.

This abbreviation for Christams is of Greek origin. the word Christ in Greek is "Xristos". during the 16th century, Europeans began using the the first initial od Christ's name, "X" in place of the word Christ in Christmas as a shorthand form of the word. Although the early Christians understood the X stood for Christ's name, later Christians who did not understand the Greek language mistook Xmas as a sign of disrespect.

AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE!

cool

It's kinda neat that Christmas isn't even on Jesus' brthday, but rather the time of the pegan winter festival.

And it did.

Now most people say...Mithra??? Who is that? Did he fight Godzilla??

Yes, it did. And, lol, no, Mithra didn't fight Godzilla. Godzilla was in her egg at that time, I think:woot: Anyway, he had many followers, but not enough, to stand the rivalry.

No disrespect, you know history and I'm happy to meet someone who loves it so much (I know I do:yay:), but in Greek the "X" is not exactly an "X", How should I put this...we see it as an X, but it's actually "Ch". Anyway, on the romanian icons for example (we are orthodx, like the greeks) you see "IS XS". The "X" itself is specially written (like "X", I hope it is visible). Anyway, it stands for Christ, you're absolutely right. But hearing and seeing "X-mas" is just really annoying. Why is it so hard to write and say "Christmas"?

X was actually "Chi"......my bad. But we get the same thing. Thx.
People just don't know any better. Personally, I like writing the whole name. But because I know the truth, it doesn't bother me to see others do it. I take it as an opportunity to tell others about the real meaning behind the the word. More people should know.

Everything that we see as secular still says "Jesus". People just don't know.

Oh, well...people want proofs. But if you want proofs, where's the point in faith.Faith doesn't need proofs. That's why is faith. Anyway, this is the way I see it.

And yet, you run into several folks on this board alone who insist on 100% logical evidence before they'll believe anything divine about Christ. That kind of search is pointless, because eventually everyone realizes that faith is of the heart, not the mind.

Great thread Memphis, I think it's important to always think about the real "reason for the season" as is said. While we all get caught up with gift shopping and giving, I think it's important to take some time and reflect on the "Christ in Christmas."
So glad to see a thread that focuses on that.
AGREED 100%
I'm happy to see this thread :)

Yes, that truely annoys me also. And I get tired of people saying Happy Holidays also :whatever: I prefer to always say Merry Christmas!!
Target's ads for 2008:

THAT WOULD ROCK!
Merry Christmas and God Bless All Of You, Regardless Of Your Religious Background.
Merry Christmas All!
People need to know the truth. That this is a holy holiday, and it's Merry Christ-mas.
Merry Christmas!!

I have no problem with christmas, but, I think it's good ol' karma that he holiday is taken by the new growing power.....

that's what happened to poor ol' yule :csad:

though, on scandinavian countries people still say yule/jule to christmas, so it's not all lost:o

Oh there's plenty of proofs that provide reasons for "faith". It's not a blind faith by any means. The evidence can be over whelming to anyone with an open mind and willing to research and read.

To great sources to read:

Man, I really believe in God. I'm a religious person (not a fanatic. Some people here will probably call me that, if I say I'm religious, so I need to explain. Though I shouldn't.) Yes, there are proofs, but many people (and I'm shocked to see how many there are here, unlike many other forums I know) want a certain type of proofs. They are ready to believe in anything else, just not in God. That's just sad.:csad:

Christmas is not the ONLY holiday around this time of year. So save the rolleyes.

You know, I see many Christmas cards with the "Happy Holidays" text, when it would be proper to say "Merry Christmas". Also, many times, people say that refering directly to Christmas. And I think that's what Lady meant to say. I think the rolleyes were justified.
