In terms of Joker's impact, there's also something to be said for the surprise box office success that TDK had. It performed well above expectations and set a new box office opening weekend record at the time. I'm willing to bet that if it wasn't for Ledger's Joker, it wouldn't have made as much money. It would have done well regardless but I think Joker and people curious to see one of Ledger's final performances after his passing pushed it to that point. Sure, Ledger's Joker was a bonus for all of us fans who were going to see it anyway, but I'd wager that if you had an exit poll at theaters where if you were to ask the average moviegoer (not Batman fans) what their main reason for seeing the movie was, the majority of them would probably say Heath Ledger. People were talking about it ever since they first saw him in the trailer, and that was before Heath's passing.
Comparatively, Infinity War made a ton more money on its opening weekend, but the main draw was never Thanos. He was a big draw for sure considering he had been built up for six years prior to that point, but the main attraction was having nearly the entire main cast of the MCU at that point in the same film for the first time.
