Just saw that Ringer is in Cowboys & Aliens next. It'll be hilarious if it turns out his acting is fine in that movie. One more thing Shyamalan forgot how to do.

Shyamalan has more experience directing kids then Favrau. Shymalan brought out of the kids fantastic acting in hes previous movies.

he is writting very bad. hes dialoge is strange.he is crazy.

but its hard for me to belive that he changed how he directs actors.

Shyamalan has 6th sense, unbreakable, and Signs, and I guess the Happening if you wanna count that, while Favs did Zathura and Elf back to back, and now C&A, so I guess Favs is catching up in the directing child actors racket while M. Night is falling behind.

I never saw this movie in the theater. And for the longest time since it’s DVD release I have avoided the movie, purely because of all the horrible reviews and comments from others. If this sounds like you as well…then read on, you may be surprised.

I’ll start by saying I am a huge fan of the series. Before watching the film I knew there would be no way to fully bring the entire first book (season) into a single film. But I’m happy to say that all the most important character and plot elements are in the film. What can’t be shown due to time constraints is said…but it’s not over done.

The film itself looks beautiful. A real gem of cinematography. It captures the world of the Benders perfectly, very very close to the animated series. The acting, while it won’t win any awards was still good enough to draw me in.

And now back to the story…it all felt a little too rushed. I could tell M. Night wanted to get in as much of the story as the studio would allow….I felt the voice over sequences of Katara explaining things really did help without going too overboard. One thing I noticed (and this could explain why many didn’t like it) is that the film felt very much like a foreign film. Partly because the asian spiritual elements of the series were kept in the film (the moon and ocean spirits in the form of fish for example), but also in the pacing and direction of the story. As a fan of foreign films, especially Chinese and Japanese films…I felt right at home and had no trouble following a long with the story. On a side note, I would have preferred more screen time for Appa and Momo, but time constraints limited their appearances.

Over all, I greatly enjoyed the film and learned that just because people say it’s a bad movie…doesn’t always mean it is. I think the film is completely misunderstood and perhaps not “Americanized” enough for some to enjoy.

Your Theory on the foreign film idea is interesting. That might explain why I liked it as well. On the Sundance channel they use to has Asia Extreme. They would show a Asian movie every Sunday at Midnight.

I watched some truly creative & amazing films that pushed ideas to a level that American cinema is too afraid to explore. So maybe I was just got into that Asian mindset without even realising it.

All I know is that I really liked the movie. I loved the action. I thoughts it lookd beautiful. I honestly don't see what the others are seeing.

oh the film did look beautiful but imo the acting was just too bad

the bending was terrible because it was'nt bending if you watch the show you know what i am talking about it is suppose to be an extension of your self

in the movie it felt like voodoo magic they would do a goofy movement and then the element would follow like 3 seconds later

the movie moved way too fast they arrived at the NWT within 45 minutes

that is just ridiculous

in the show they did'nt arrive to the NWT till the 18th episode

they shouldn't of arrived to the NWT till about 90 minutes in

also aang was not happy go lucky or cheerful

sokka was'nt funny or sarcastic

katara was not a strong female character

also one of the main themes of season 1 was Family specifically the family like bond the 3 of them share. They did'nt feel like family at all sokka and katara were just travelers with aang in this movie.

also appa should be a character himself but he just felt like thier flying car when he is so much more than that

also the end pissed me off

where sokka and katara bowed before aang

the show never would of done that they are a family

would you see Hermione and Ron bow before Harrry in the HP Movies? i think not because they are a family and close friends

Shyamalan apparently completely missed what the concept of bending is. Apparently, he believes that it is like a rain dance. You do the magic dance, and it makes the element do something after you're done. It was lame and disappointing to watch, and it was especially stupid how the water never seems to make anyone wet. Really, how hard would it be just to have someone on set holding a big bucket of water and then dump it on the actors when they get the cue?

I didn't mind that.
I do think he chose that route possibly because he wanted to show that they need to charge up Chi in order to control elements. but I really wasn't all that bothered by it.

The bending was so SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWW, I mean in the cartoon/anime/series/whatever the bending was so badass in this movie it takes like an hour for someone to bend. (Im looking at you eartbenders)

ahh...see, that's probably where I differ from a lot of people. I didn't mind the "slow bending". In many martial arts films you'll see plenty of people doing moves before they even fight someone. I don't need everything to be set on the fast setting in order to enjoy it. Which I realize is hard to understand in this Michael Bay movie world =P

Good grief... That scene was difficult to watch. I mean, so much was wrong with it, did they do anything RIGHT? Katara liberating the earth benders was such a great moment in the show, and yet in the movie it was pointless. The Earthbenders could have freed themselves at any time but they didn't because they were lazy gits. In the show, they were on a prison ship made of freaking metal, and their spirits had been broken. It was also supposed to be Katara's big moment, but they gave it to Aang and his speach was so dull and poorly rehearsed that it was only good for laugh value. And not to mention what a pathetic adversary they had! How many firebenders were there, like 2? The scene was just plain dull and lazy, which describes probably 90% of the film.

he must be doing something different because his films used to have good to great acting and now the acting is horrid.

Worst movie of the year. One of and still is the best anime tv series.

I own four M Night movies, and love all of them. But I think he has completely lost his mind after the village. I wonder if his past movies only were good acting because they had good actors in them... The Last Airbender was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, but I am bias being a die hard fan of the series.

yeah I fail to see what the difference between the moves these benders did. & almost every Kung Fu movie ever. There is always the guy that does a move before the fight.

Neo did it in the Matrix, Daniel Son did it in Karate Kid III. I don't know just like you I didn't have a problem with it.

There was nothing wrong with the moves themself, but the fact that there was long combinations and their bending didn't happen until after the moves were finished. Besides, Aang's kung fu was rather sloppy looking if you ask me.

Pretty much EVERYONE's Kung Fu was sloppy in this movie. The choreography was rushed and not well thought out. Many of the scenes came across as the actors just rough housing. :o

Also, as for the comments the bending in the film was following conventions of martial arts films-- the problem is that that's not how the bending in Avatar works. The element is supposed to be an extension of the user's body, so each move that they do should be affecting the element directly. Instead, what we end up seeing in most of the scenes amounts to a character doing a magic dance and stepping back to watch the element do its thing.

What a **** movie I have to say. M. Night really took a stinky ol'poo on all the cash that was handed to him to adapt one of the best animated series out there.

I really question everything he said about being a "fan". No fan could inflict so much harm onto a series they loved.

If I had played back similar footage I'd honestly walk away and tell Paramount along with Michael and Bryan, "I'm sorry but I'm godawful at doing what I do and what I have recored is disgraceful to both you an me, good day to you all".

What a waste.

i watch asia movies and i still found the last airbender to be a pile of cow poo. the pacing was the worst. the only thing i liked about the movie was that it made me laugh, it was actually one of the funniest movies i ever watched. the bending was so bad and the stupid excuse of building up chi is crap. if i cant bend any element and im in a fight with someone who can but he is dancing first i wont just stand there, i'll throw a rock at him messing up his focus.

the part where ang and zuko fought was priceless. katara froze zuko and as aang i mean oong was walking out he says " we can be friends you know". where the hell is that coming from? there was no build up to that statment and please dont say blue spirit crap.

overall worst adapation ever

but

a very good comdey(only if you watched the show)

The only good thing that came out of this movie was that the teaser for it looked so cool that it got me to watch the TV series. I ended up loving the TV show, and hating the movie that made me want to watch it. I can't help but wonder if all the footage in the trailers was directed by someone other than Shyamalan. :o
