The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

Sure, the game will be released next week. I don't think it's an announcement of anything.

Though I believe there will be a release trailer on June 19 or 18. Plus full reviews will arrive on 12.

Naughty Dog

Seriously blown-away by this. I don't need any of those options, but plenty of people do.

Kind of weird, kind of cool to hear that line again after all this time. It has been a long wait.

Leaked review, no spoilers:

IGN gave it a 10.

But I thought it was confirmed to suck based on a leaked cutscene with no context? :whatever:

I can't wait to play it. Replaying the first one for the third time right now.

I went through reviews. Review scores are obviously high overall, aggregator scores are very high.

Some reviewers complain about mean-spirited-ness and violence, pacing problems (especially in the second half) and little improvement gameplay-wise over the first game. Some people just can't handle the gruesome gameplay and say that it overshadows everything else. Some reviewers are really mixed on the story as well. Character motivations, narrative turns... Some found it muddled and unfocused.

95? It's no Red Dead 2, so what's the point?

The gameplay looks so much better then the first one's though. I have a hard time believing that, but I guess I'll see. Then again the Uncharted games didn't have good gameplay until the third one and people didn't seem to notice that until years later. :hehe:

The main complaint I saw was the violence sort of just feels excessive and loses a bit of meaning at a certain point. Kotaku's review is what I worry about. I don't want to be miserable playing a 25 hour game.

The Last Of Us Part II: The Kotaku Review
Well, one of the harshest reviews claimed that it's basically like Snyder's DCFU and Disney's Star Wars sequels story and tone wise. It's drowned in misery, plot holes, tries too hard to subvert expectations and deconstruct everything that people loved about the first game. And it ends up falling on it's face.

I'm not the harshest critic of DCFU and I'm rather sympathetic towards BvS, but I'm still worried that ND will fail to balance light and dark elements. I personally didn't find anything bad in the leaks, maybe outside unnecessasry violence depiction, plus I saw a reviewer who hated the leaks but ended up loving the sequel even more than the first game. So yeah... Impossible to know unless experienced personally. This thing is gonna be divisive.

Also, it's spoilers:
Abby's part will be around 10-12 hours (in a 25-30 hours game) and they say that it will be largely the main reason if you will like or dislike the game.

Kinda Funny Games pretty much confirmed the leaks and said they expect people not to like it. Gonna be interesting to see how this pans out.

I am not sure what that means because I don't think those are similar to each other at all. I guess they mean more TLJ, then TFA or even TRoS, which aren't big on the deconstruction or subversion. This game sounds like it gets very nihilist at times, so I guess I can see the Snyder idea.

My brother is reading reviews more so then me, and he mentioned one where they said the game didn't have a "giraffe moment". The first game hurts, but never feels too dour for too long. For all the pain, it is also super life affirming and uplifting. The excess of the violence is a lot like God of War or Bioshock Infinite, where it has a purpose, while never dragging the game down to make you feel miserable while playing it for long stretches. This game could be the best art house game of all time. But if it's not fun, I don't want to be miserable.

I still have it pre-ordered, but I might have to wait to here other people's opinion beyond the reviews. Might need some actual spoilers for the endgame.

Someone said he felt the story of the sequel is Later Seasons of Game of Thrones: The Game.

There are a lot of leaks. We know some are real. But there is also leaks that we know are not real.

I mean TLJ, I guess. But I'm playing it regardless. Whatever it is, it needs to be experienced. Though I'm fully expecting people being turned off by misery and grisly violence. Discussions will be interesting.
