The Last of Us The Last Of Us 2

Then you're just willingly ingnore the points I raise and choose to focus me fiercely resisting unsubstantial criticisms. When a guy says he doesn't like the gameplay of Part 1 and Part 2 didn't change his opinion - well, OK. He didn't like it. In what way does it makes his opinion any more credible than those that praise gameplay?

Because its not an unreasonable expectation to hope the sequel has improved the gameplay as most good game sequels do. In what world is that an unreasonable criticism?

But it's not the first time you made comments on the game:So yeah, it very much looks like seeking validity after a rushed judgement.
I'm not dismissing what he's saying, I'm dismissing the claim that his opinion is more credible than those that rank the game highly. I have no issue with people disliking the game. Not to mention, nothing is liked by everyone. But I listened to his opinion and he can't really discuss the things he was bothered by the most (because of review guidelines) and gameplay didn't impress him. That's it.

Two things;

1. My choosing to not buy the game after having leaked spoilers confirmed doesn't mean I am looking for validity in negative reviews. On what planet would anyone who loves the first game and waited 7 years for a sequel want it to suck? Explain the logic in wanting the game to be bad. Its easy to explain your logic because you want the game to be good and resist any negativity thrown at it. But why would anyone who loves the first game and never once expressed any negativity toward the sequel until those confirmed leaks be seeking validation for it to be bad?

2. Obviously not everything is liked by everyone, but this is not a scathing negative review. Its a balanced review showcasing the pros and cons in great detail. That's why I highlighted it. I could easily have dug a review from someone who did nothing but bash it from beginning to end if it was validity in negativity that I sought..

You do you. I tried to be argumentative.

I don't think you did. I think you were just assumptive and dismissive.

It's not an unreasonable expectation. I'm asking in what way this review is more valid than a review packed with praise or simply less critical? Because I just saw a review that said that the sequel improved gameplay from the first game dramatically, but it doesn't mean it's the best gameplay system ever. Sort of, if you didn't like gameplay of the first game, give this one a chance, it might feel a lot better.

The logic is simple. "I made a rushed judgement about the game and now I'll seek validation of my knee-jerk reaction because the game received critical acclaim. So I'll cling to even remotely mixed or negative reviews." For example. If it's not you, then my mistake.
Right now haters from reddit are praying on Skill Up review because it's one of very few mixed opinions on the game so far. Even Skill Up himself had to come out on twitter to say "please look for other reviews too, I might be very much a radical minority who disliked the game".

Share, if you have them. Let's read and listen to them all.

Maybe I was. After a month of reading hateful comments on reddit from people who know nothing about the game beyond a few isolated scenes, maybe it made me a bit biased.

Excellent review. Really argumentative about the aspects that were allowed in review guidelines. Detailed and illustrative.

I didn't say his review is more valid, I said his review is what I personally find more credible as it was more balanced because it takes an in depth look at the pros and the cons. He even says in his criticisms, for example of the aforementioned gameplay that if you liked the gameplay of the first game, you'll like this one. He simply was hoping for improvement of the gameplay which you usually get with game sequels, and didn't get it. That kind of perspective I find more credible because its a fair criticism, it identifies what can be cons to some, and not really a con to the others which he fairly points out. He's looking at both sides.

A review that doesn't isn't any less valid. I just don't find it as credible for looking at the bigger picture of a game.

If I had been on a constant hate mongering campaign against this game since those leaks came out, then you'd have a valid point. But have I said a word against the game since that one reaction I posted back when we first saw those leaks? No I haven't. I've been keeping silent since then and just waiting to see what the fans, and not the official gaming websites, have to say about it.

I would very happily eat the biggest slice of humble pie with cream on top if it turns out this game is awesome and I love it. Because I want to so, so, SO much.

Understandable. But try and judge everyone individually. Especially those of us like me whom you've known for years, and have seen I've not been on any kind of hate campaign against it.

Edge's review conclusion is interesting:

Anyone who was concerned about continuing "that" story...

I won’t be playing this straightaway but look forward to the opinions of you guys in here.

Solid reviews. Can't wait to play this.

It's not really a spoiler but in case anyone doesn't want to see the dynamic PS4 theme coming with the various special editions, I'll put it under one.

I really love her art, so I'm quite happy to see it not only be on the steelbook but the PS4 theme as well.

I liked that review.

It reassures some of the fears I had for this game. The gameplay might be good, but the story is horrible and it will not hold you long enough without you getting tired of it all and just wanting it to end.

I'll just save $60 and spend this weekend finishing Days Gone.

But I'm still very much looking forward to listening to Gustavo's score for this game.

Is it weird that I just replayed the first game two months ago and I now want to play through it again before I pick up Part II on Friday? :o

For those curious or still on the fence. I have been doing a lot of reading, and from what I get:

This is a game where they turn the crew from the first game into really, really awful people, in what feels like an attempt prop up Abby as not all that bad in comparison. If you liked Ellie and Tommy from the first game, they don't really exist anymore.

You play as Abby for a very large portion of the game, apparently without interruption.

The ending sounds... odd. Like extra bleak for not much of a reason, unless the idea is that with TLoU3, they are going to do some major surgery with one of the characters, and base the game around that.

This stuff, which I have read from mutiple places, is from people who really liked the game by the way. So yeah.

People who don't want extra bleakness should stay away.

Sounds like if they really wanted to tell this narrative it should have been the third game so that characters could naturally grow to this point and so we could experience that growth.

Really debating if I want to subject myself to it.

If you don't want the meaning and value of the first game completely ruined for yourself, then maybe this isn't the best story to invest yourself in.

I've read the leaks, but I think seeing the actual scenes will make it more "real" for me. Right now I can just sorta tune it out if I want to but if I see the events it's always going to be there popping up in my memory like a bad rerun when I think about the series. Ya know...

I kinda tuned out weeks ago and have become numb to it if I'm honest. At the end of all of this I'm simply left wondering - what was the point of making this story? If the end goal was to simply dismantle everything good about the first game, to take what people loved and destroy it, then I have to really question whether Druckmann actually gave a **** about what he created in the first place. I'm not one for telling creators what they should do with their work, but if you're wanting to take the audience into a different direction it's got to be more than just for shock value. I'm not against the idea of subverting expectations, but the term has been corrupted now where it means what came out previously doesn't matter. If there was never a good follow up story for Joel and Ellie the story should have been left where it ended.

It's Matrix sequels and BvS all over again. Only in the world of games.

"The ending is dumb!"

Or maybe TLJ is more fitting, since Part II received critical acclaim.
