Back when I played baseball in hs, I never wore my cup because it was too uncomfortable. It wasn't mandatory for our team, but our coach always used to tell us to wear them. No one really listened.

One time this player for the other team was trying to steal 2nd (my spot), and his left leg slid past the plate while his right knee slammed into my genitals (I had to crouch/squat because of the bad throw from our catcher). Needless too say, I chose the restrictive nature of a cup over risking an encore.
