Whoever these Amish are...

...Somebody has to stop them.

I can't believe the gall some of you people have, what should have been a nice tribute to an upstanding society that doesn't conform to your wacky ipod generation has been a breeding round for incest jokes and filandering!

The Amish are one of the few FEW religious communities I respect because of their tradition of rumschpringe.

Actually, its just a subject that very few people have any interest in, so it gets ignored except for those wanting a quick giggle, which Weird Al more than proivided. I'd never even heard of the Amish until a few months back anyway.

If you love the Amish so much you should join their cult. I consider them no better than the Mormon groups that have twenty-six wives.

There's lots of minonites and hudderites(sp?) where I live.

I don't like them...they smell.

Nice sterotyping regarding mormons and their "26 wives." You're really showing your intellegence. Someone can just as well sterotype all Black Sabbath fans as morons based on your posts.

There're everywhere in Canada.

You've shunned grammar. :o

He did say "THE mormon GROUPS".

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons) is completely 100% against polygamy....because the United States wouldn't allow Utah to be a state if they allowed polygamy...so the prophet had a brand new, conveniently timed "revelation" that God changed his mind and decided that, instead of REQUIRING polygamy, he would now, instead, FORBID it.

However, there are Mormon off-shoot groups that still practice polygamy and feel that they are the "real" Mormons, distrusting the supposed, convenient "revelation".

For the most part they live in rural, deserted areas on self-made compounds, but I was friends with a polygamists family and they lived in SLC, in town, but...in hiding.

Plenty polygamists in the name of Mormonism to be found in Utah

I wouldn't give him that much credit. He seems to enjoy sterotyping.

Most people enjoy steryotyping. Its easier than thinking.

I respect the Amish' strong sense of self control and dedication to what they believe in.

FYI, modern Amish now use computers, tractors, and other forms of technology. But its the "priority one puts on such things" that makes the difference. I may not agree with everything they do/believe, but I can respect it.

You have to give him the credit because he used the plural "groups".

It's a fact that only a tiny percentage of Utahns are polygamists...and mostly that's the stereotype you hear, "Oh, yer goin' to Utah? Gonna pick up 8 or 9 new wives? HaR hAr"

But there are "Mormon Groups" who practice polygamy, even though the church oficially denounces it.

So, he is referring, not to Utahns...not to the LDS church, but "the Mormon GROUPS" who really DO practice it.

......you racist fruitcake.

One of my friends absolutely hates the amish. He always has to break up their parties and clean up after their drunken binges when he's at home.
my best friend hated them, too. She said they bought up all the land, ran around getting drunk and high and trying to have sex with everything in sight:wow:

I live in central PA and....I like them...Mennonites, too

What is an Amish?

Amish

main Entry: Amish

Function: adjective
Etymology: probably from German amisch, from Jacob Amman or Amen fl1693 Swiss Mennonite bishop
Date: 1844
: of or relating to a strict sect of Mennonites who were followers of Amman and settled in America chiefly in the 18th century
— Amish noun
:hyper:

amish broke off from the mennonites? You'd think it was the other way around.

Given his posts earlier in the thread about how the Amish practice incest, it's reasonable to think that he was making more ass backwards comments about an entire group of people.

word. they're the perfect religious people, in that they just want to be left alone, and they'll leave you alone.

unless of course when they're trying to sell you something.

I didn't say that all mormons are into polygamy. But almost all of the ones that do live in Utah.

It isn’t on purpose, they live in such small communities that pretty soon they’re all related to each other.
Eventually they’re all going to die if they keep it up, if you don’t get new blood into your compound you’re going to suffer.

I'll have you know the Ammish think the mormons aren't very appealing. After all, the like live under ground in salt mines and stuff. It was in that Time Machine movie if you don't believe me.

You're asinine, don't bump this thread again.
