The Lone Ranger

Good God, you're still complaining about Depp?

I know Right!

Depp is attempting to correct a negative portrayal of a character from a rich cultural background that was made by Hollywood just making stuff up instead of reflecting the actual cultural history.

He's doing this my just making stuff up instead of reflecting the actual cultural history.

Go Depp!!!

Because some people are *so* oppressed that they feel the need to "change things" by whining about it in an internet forum the parties they're complaining about never reads.

Way of the future, man. Way of the future.

Public forum. Differing opinions.
Who'dathunk someone would have the audacity to post something other than heaps of glowing praise in a thread about any given movie? I know right?

Way of the future, man. And the past. And the present. And the, uh, sideways, I guess

In the painting, the bird looks like it flying through the head. Which is pretty weird.

I don't know if it has been posted here yet, but Ruth Wilson confirmed that there will be a love-triangle between Lone Ranger, her character(The Ranger's sister-in-law), and Tonto, much like it was in the Dynamite comic series. It'll be interesting to see how that is played out in the film.

LOL! Yep, the best thing he could have done to "correct the negative portrayal of a character from a rich cultural background" was step aside, and let an actual person form that rich cultural background actually play the part.

And none of this movie which we all know is a pure American white wash fantasy (if anything the Texas Rangers were created to hunt down, slaughter and remove Native Americans from their land) would even bug me, if it wasn't for them and some fans spewing out the total BS about Depp bringing some authenticity to the role.

Why do some people even pretend, we all know the only reason he's there $$$, so please shut up about how authentic or respectful he's going to make this.
Other than that the movie is fine, I've always been a fan of Lone Ranger & Tonto and looking forward to it.

Why?

we haven't seen any footage or even a trailer and they aren't even done filming and you already made up your mind that you are not seeing this in theatres?

it has a solid director and a great cast as well

The trailer will be the deciding factor in that to me. The trailers better do a good job in illustrating the whole "built around Tonto" thing. If it comes off as something that will only serve to paint Tonto in a "new light", but shows no solid sign that it celebrates the legacy of The Lone Ranger/John Reid, then I'm just saving my cash for The Man of Steel.

First off....if you read my post, I say - but I probably won't go -

I have personally been a Lone Ranger fan for 50 years (I turn 55 in 2 months). I have watched every filmed incarnation of the characters of the Ranger and Tonto. I have read pulp magazine stories and comics of the characters. So far, the pictures released and storyline talk for this movie turn me off. At this point, this sounds and looks nothing like the characters I have enjoyed for 50 years. At this point it sounds like they will make a mockery of characters I love. So yes, there is probably a chance (unless I see or hear some things that greatly change my mind) that I will not support this movie.

i have little faith in the involved production crew to make a good movie from this. but i hope im wrong. im stoked to see jack doing the soundtrack, i think he'll surprise a lot of people. but i worry his music will be wasted on a captacular film.

Ever listen to the radio series?
I like Brace Beemer as LR but can't stand to listen to John Todd as Tonto.
Todd makes Tonto sound like a dumb indian.

But none including Adam Beach are good actors

Plenty of those listed are good actors, though whether they're as good as Depp in some areas is arguable. None of them, however, are blockbuster sized box office draws. And none of them, to the best of my knowledge, were instrumental in getting this movie made.

I don't see Depp saying that the painting above is historically accurate, or that his Tonto will be. It seems pretty obvious he's drawn inspiration from it, which, as an actor, is fine. I think it's a little silly to condemn people here, who don't likely study the work of Sattler, for thinking that his image might potentially be historically accurate or authentic. There are liberties taken in film. In a movie where Johnny Depp is playing a Native American, I would think that his "look" would be the least of creative worries.
