The Lone Ranger

I clicked on this thread to find the same crap from a while back, we have an ignore feature or posters can just be mature about things and respect each other's opinion.

I've deleted the mess this time, but if it happens again I'm just banning you guys from the thread rather than bother with infractions.

So "Dark Shadows" is under performing. The movie was made for an estimated 150 million

Next year "The Lone Ranger" will be on the big screen with an estimated budget of 200 million.

It will open three weeks after "Iron Man 3"

It would really suck for Depp if his next year movie get's beat by another Marvel movie.

Combine that with the 200 million budget and we could potentially see another "John Carter" bomb

Yeah, Iron Man 3 won't do Avengers business.

The first two films grossed about $300 million domestic. So, I'm assuming the third will gross about the same. Or maybe even less since it won't seem as "special" coming off the big superhero team-up that is the Avengers.

why would it suck if Depp has 2 bombs in 2 years? i think this would be the best. the guy is not a hungry actor anymore.

That's ok, no one expects it too.

Unless this is a sample of the new anti-Marvel haterade?

"These solo films will never do Avengers business"

ugh

Yeah, solo movies will have less budget than The Avengers, and they won't be expecting IM3 to do TA's numbers, otherwise what TA did won't be special. If it does around IM1's ballpark, I think the studio will be more than satisfied, and the audience will know the difference between an Iron Man movie and an Avengers movie.

I have a feeling this is going to bomb and hard.

I've liked what I've seen and I really like the talent involved but all these problems will come back to haunt them.

The problem with the Lone Ranger movie in general is still the whopping price tag. There's absolutely no reason why the movie can't cost $100M less, without sacrificing integrity or crucial scenes. I blame Bruckheimer and Verbinski's hubris, and not really wanting to be more creative on a much lower budget. Throwing money at the problem (making the budget balloon back up to the $250M range) isn't helping.

Some directors and producers need to realize that less is more. Bruckheimer already has three underperforming/bombed films (POTC 4 not withstanding), and The Lone Ranger will be the tipping point.

I like Armie Hammer so I hope this movie is a success, but the budget is ridiculous.

As everyone has been saying a 100 mill+ budget seems pretty high, a 200+ mill budget just seems unnecessary.

And now all these rewrites and stuff during filming. Idk

Why the frak is the Lone Ranger a Western so special FX heavy? Does it take place in space, in another dimension, are the illusory Indians and horses magical beings they think don't exist they have to creat them in CG? Does Silver run on a lighning bolt and Tonto transform into a magical (but authentic) cosmic crow-spirit?

If I'm not mistaken I think there will be aliens. Which would explain the budget skyrocketing.

So true.

It's something ridiculous. I forget what exactly. Could have sworn I heard aliens but I could be dead wrong. :funny:

They claim it was just going to have vague supernatural Native American elements, like a wendigo or something.

Maybe it's this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svPh24I7wV0&feature=player_detailpage#t=1s
Silver also transforms into a giant robot to fight the evil trainbot!
While Tonto transforms into avenging crow-spirit to destroy the the rock & roll wear-wolves who killed his girlfriend.

lol, I was thinking more like this guy:

Now BraveStarr would justify uping that vfx budget.

Anyway they are clearly going over the top visually and conceptually with this, I hope it works. Not what I think of for the Lone Ranger, but still looks fun, looking forward to what they've come up with.
