I'm not rooting for it to fail. I like Hammer, Depp and Verbinski. I am disappointed with how generic and Pirates sequels like the film looks. I guess some people are but I'm not.
Yep. SPIDEY, you just care if you like it. But others, they won't like it no matter what. They just want it to lose for whatever reason.

I really hope this film is a hit. This character has nearly disappeared into obsolescence after the failed 1981 film and a failed 90's TV attempt to bring back the character.

I'm disappointed with the reviews so far, however I hope it will pick up a bit.

A fun good western will be a good change of pace from the usual Hollywood fair.

Fascinating to see so many people rooting for this to fail, I just don't get it, probably Depp backlash or something, or because it's Disney, the budget is huge and so, many want this to bomb. Such a pathetic behavior........

I'm not rooting for it to fail. I hope it is a good movie. But I can honestly say I've disliked what I've seen in the trailers, and unless it has some sort of super good word of mouth I probably will wait for the DVD release.

I'm not really interested in this movie but perhaps if it is a hit, that could inspire Hollywood to greenlight more Westerns, and that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

Still though, I feel like TV is better suited for Westerns these days. None of the recent Western films even touch AMC's Hell on Wheels (IMO), other than Django Unchained (and that film isn't solely a Western).

I'm not sure where this is coming from either. As a fan of the TV and Radio serials, I've been rooting for this film for a long time. I thing there's a generation gap of younger folks who don't know the character and don't care.

Where are all these people rooting for the film to fail? What I see is people responding to how it looks, and not being impressed.

I think what we are talking about is failing in terms of box office, not necessarily quality.

Oh man, just read Drew McWeeney's review. Apparently there is a scene in the movie where [BLACKOUT]the villain cuts out John Reid's brothers heart and eats it in front of Reid.[/BLACKOUT] I just had to warn my brother to not take his kids to see the movie.

I still haven't decided if I'm seeing it in theaters or not but I'm still hoping it does well enough to get Hammer even more roles. I like him. Like totally outside of the box office talk the trailers have been so bland to me. I can't figure out why I should be excited? I like Depp, Hammer and Verbinski and I like adventure and yet the trailers haven't grabbed me.

Disney.

You know, for kids!

Actually I may have to go see it after hearing that.

+1 for the Hudsucker Proxy reference.

Actually, yeah... reading that made me want to see it a little bit, lol.

I guess I'm a pretty sick guy.

I can't quite explain it, but every time I hear the sound of a revolver being cocked, it gets me on some sort of visceral level. I grew up with Westerns. I might be a little to easy to please in this regard.

Some of the shots, like the train sequence, John's resurrection and Silver jumping really catch my attention as well.

Gore don't give a blank!!!!

I still can't believe Disney spent as much on this as they did, especially after John Carter.

Drew's review was pretty interesting. I don't care if the movie is violent and not really for children though because I'm not a child and I don't have a child. That complaint in and of itself is useless to me. The complaints about tonal issues and bad characterizations are of use to me.

Whoa, what's this I read in the Variety review about [blackout]scary carnivorous rabbits[/blackout]?

Bah, kids go to see Batman and that had the Joker sticking a pencil in a guy's eye.

As fart as the budget goes, I would imagine there's something in this movie to justify it, beyond the building of real town sets, laying some train tracks, etc. Those things are expensive. They don't cost $250-$300 million. I'm intrigued based on what I've seen. If Armie Hammer has half as much fun as he seems to be having, this could be a wildly entertaining movie and take on Ranger mythology.
