Glad you enjoyed it, Poni, especially since you're a fan of the character. I'll be checking it out this weekend, I'm sure.

I definitely have people in mind for that role, and even different "types" depending on the type of Batman we get, but Hammer doesn't fit any of the types I'm hoping to see, so I'd have a hard time getting excited about a Batflick with him in the lead. Not saying it couldn't happen, just saying...it would be an uphill battle, lol.
I wanna hear your choices girl. If you don't want to clog up this thread with non Ranger talk just pm me your choices.

I hope fans of the character and non fans alike enjoy LR. Nice to see a fan enjoy it.

What rating would you give it?

I rate movies three ways then take the average for my site reviews:

Technical execution (visual effects, casting, score, cinematography, etc): 3/4

Creative output (script, performances, etc): 3/4

Entertainment factor: 3.5/4

So overall I give it a solid 3/4 stars

Thanks! I'm seeing it again opening day. This movie has earned my money.

RE: Hammer - I think he would be wasted as Batman. If anything he should play a disillusioned hero, not an inherently tormented one.

Also, he should never shave again.

Just saw the movie. Absolutely loved it. Very, very fun. Action is graphic at times, but not much more than the Pirates movies. As a long time fan of the character (met Clayton Moore twice, have his autograph hanging in my bedroom) I applaud what they did with the story.

That is all

I liked the POTC films a lot. Do you think I will like this too? Is it like them in terms of entertainment and fun?

For me it's on the same level as the first Pirates movie (the only one I really like/re-watch).

Few random thoughts about it:

- It's long and it feels long. This is because [BLACKOUT]The device they use to offer exposition adds about 15+ minutes. It's my least favorite part of the movie but I completely understand why they did it: for kids[/BLACKOUT]

- There's a lot of humor, and most of it got loud laughs in my screening (packed theater)

- All of the iconic Lone Ranger tropes are included and I mean ALL of them. Best part is they apply them very well in terms of the story itself. It's way less campy than I expected.

- William Fichtner is phenomenal

- The William Tell Overture still gives me chills

Ha, agreed on the facial hair. The ads for this movie are the only times I've ever found him attractive, tbh. :woot:

Thanks Poni Boy, you've given me hope for this film because I know you are very objective in your movie opinions.

I'm really hoping this movie takes off, because I want to see the character return to the mainstream.

As a kid I loved the 1981 film, because I was too young to understand it's flaws, and because I was unaware until later on how the studio at the time were treating Clayton Moore like crap.

Armie Hammer is already established so there's no worry, he'll be the next Clayton Spillsbury. Heck even Taylor Kitsch is still getting film roles, so Armie will turn out allright.

Glad to hear the William Tell Overture is in there. I was worried that would get dropped.

This is a rental for me given the shellacking it's getting.

Thanks. I try to be as objective as possible especially with the movies I "hope" to be good. Thing is it seems like most (geek) critics had their venomous reviews all ready to publish even before they saw the movie. And I find it ironic that most of them can't stop praising Pacific Rim for its originality while simultaneously chastising Disney for reinventing Lone Ranger.

Also, the Overture is in it twice. [BLACKOUT]First time very simplistic and campy because it serves the scene. Second time it's full orchestra goodness.[/BLACKOUT]

My sis and I see a lot of stuff on a whim so I'm at the "could, could not" stage. It's not the actual review scores or anything, I just haven't read anything in the reviews that sounds like super appealing to me. It sounds alright I guess. I'm glad Poni Boy liked it.

The movie has a good first and third act.

Act 2 is . . . really tough. This movie needed to be 15-20 minutes shorter.

I'm fine with long movies, but this one was way too long. The second act has a lot of navel-gazing and meandering.

Yeah they could have easily cut 15 minutes from the movie. Seems like one of those scenarios where the film makers re-watch it so many times they don't notice there's fat that needs to be trimmed. It's lucky the first act intros and third act action are strong because the second act takes a lot of momentum away.

I'm thrilled the William Tell Overture is in this movie. I know it seems obvious, but just...happy anyway.

Oh so was I. Had chills the entire time it played. Was convinced they would have cut it.

Bottom line is I went in with a mountain of apprehension and came out really, really happy. That's a rarity for me :yay:

Oh man, just read Drew McWeeney's review. Apparently there is a scene in the movie where [BLACKOUT]the villain cuts out John Reid's brothers heart and eats it in front of Reid.[/BLACKOUT] I just had to warn my brother to not take his kids to see the movie.

I know. You can't take anything for granted these days, but It's a must for the film. Can't wait to hear it!

This extremely low reviews are ridiculous. There is no way the movie is THAT bad.

my uncle and my aunt want to take me for my birthday I turn 32 July 4 we probably want see it until Friday

You know what? After those ridiculous reviews (IMO) of Man Of Steel, I no longer pay attention.

I stopped looking reviews long ago. It's best if you watched yourself then judge it.

Pretty much yeah, in the end, only my opinion counts, but critics do have a toxic influence overall.

You are raising my expectations. I need to stop reading your post. :D

I find it funny how there's a lot of complaints about the level of violence in this movie, and the director's first name is Gore

:o

16 % on RT, this is getting seriously ridiculous........ Haven't seen yet obviously, but are we witnessing a blockbuster overdose with the critics? It's like every blockbuster that comes out decreases, one after the other. Anyway, no matter how bloated it can be (coming from someone who doesnt find that The Hobbit is too long), I'm just expecting a really fun movie, with great action, and Hammer & Depp.
