I don't think they did. I mean the finale was good, but after spending about two hours undercutting and belittling him at every turn it was a lot to deal with.

Also the movie is not that bad. I was pretty much entertained, but the movie is way too long. Act 2 was just a slog and the movie has a lot of navel-gazing.

The framing device was way too goofy IMHO. I don't think kids are going to like looking at Depp looking like some sort of extra from The Lost Crystal like that.

When I got the Avengers Blu-ray, I was so happy to see that Whedon ditched that horrendous flashback narrative/framing device. For the most part, I hate them. I think the writers were trying to make it a bit like Princess Bride, but it didn't work.

I say dive right in, don't do this flashback garbage.

It was the worst part for me. Waste of time. But I understand why they did it. It's purely exposition for kids.

The movie was a wasted opportunity. They introduced the concept of Skinwalkers and Wendigo's and then suddenly forget about that plot all together. They also have at least 3 action scene involving a train. THREE!! That's over kill. The cgi buffalo's look horrible too.

I wish they did a serious version of Lone Ranger.

The original script involved werewolves so the skinwalkers and wendigos are probably what's left from the original script and that stuff will most likely be explored in the sequel.

And I assume they just mention them? Indian folklore has a lot of that stuff and its bound to come up when traveling with a witch doctor. Just because its mentioned doesn't mean they have to show up or have a payoff.

It got the chop due to budgetary reasons. Ironic considering the final budget. The original concept was apparently humongous with a heavy supernatural plot. Disney wouldn't front the cash so they started snipping away until eventually the supernatural aspect was just barely there. If Disney would front $215 million I can't even imagine what the budget would have been for the original concept. Must have been astronomical.

Ohhh, yeah, I read about that. I knew it started that way, but I didn't realize it cut back and forth throughout the film. Hmmm that might could have been cut and saved some time and money.

Sounds a bit like overkill with all the talk about the film being too long. Clearly unnecessary, especially if sequels come about.

See now...I am a huge fan of these kinds of films. They really have a pulpy adventure vibe which I LOVE. It's why I loved the Indy films and the Pirates films.

Actually, Tonto calls himself a Wendigo hunter and the main badguy is rumored to be one. He even eats a man's heart. In the end, it turns out he's just a crazy mother ****er. There's no Wendigo or skinwalker.

The finale actually reminded me of the Zorro sequel... only crazier.

I don't think I'll ever understand the "serious" argument. The Lone Ranger was never serious. It was a parable of morality for kids. If you want a serious western watch the Dollars trilogy.

It's like people watching the Pirates movies and asking why there wasn't any raping and garroting.

Try reading some of the recent Lone Ranger comics. They turned him into a badass western hero.

Act 2 is . . . really tough. This movie needed to be 15-20 minutes shorter.

I'm fine with long movies, but this one was way too long. The second act has a lot of navel-gazing and meandering.

Everytime they went back to old Tonto I groaned.
