Ron Howard Won't Direct The Lost Symbol

Ron Howard will return to the world of Dan Brown's Robert Langdon only as a producer, Deadline reports. A new director is being sought to helm the third installment in the popular "Da Vinci Code" franchise, The Lost Symbol. The plot of the third book is officially described as follows.

"The Lost Symbol" is a masterstroke of storytelling--a deadly race through a real-world labyrinth of codes, secrets, and unseen truths... all under the watchful eye of Brown's most terrifying villain to date. Set within the hidden chambers, tunnels, and temples of Washington, D.C., "The Lost Symbol" accelerates through a startling landscape toward an unthinkable finale.

As the story opens, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned unexpectedly to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, however, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object--artfully encoded with five symbols--is discovered in the Capitol Building. Langdon recognizes the object as an ancient invitation... one meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of esoteric wisdom.

When Langdon's beloved mentor, Peter Solomon--a prominent Mason and philanthropist--is brutally kidnapped, Langdon realizes his only hope of saving Peter is to accept this mystical invitation and follow wherever it leads him. Langdon is instantly plunged into a clandestine world of Masonic secrets, hidden history, and never-before-seen locations--all of which seem to be dragging him toward a single, inconceivable truth.

The Howard-directed The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons both featured Tom Hanks in the lead role of Langdon. Though no official announcement has been made, Hanks is expected to return for The Lost Symbol, which will feature a script from Eastern Promises author Steven Knight and Brown himself.

enjoyed must of the book, but the "reveal" was sooooo stupid. wonder how they'll fix it (if at all).

Have to wonder if they'll change the reveal a little too. This one has the coolest villain from the book series, imo, but the smaller reveal about him was pretty obvious. All in all it's a really exciting book, and if they get this villain at least close to the book version it will make this movie awesome, so I'm really looking forward to this one!

I was talking about the Object, but yeah, that's something I hated about A&D. The assassin had a huge role in the book, but was pretty much shrugged off in the movie. Hopefully that isn't the case for this movie.

He's filmed two of them, now Ron Howard looks to have bowed out of directing the film adaptation of author Dan Brown's third Robert Langdon adventure "The Lost Symbol" at Sony Pictures reports Deadline.
A source tells the site that “Ron told Amy Pascal and Michael Lynton that he was not going to be directing Dan Brown’s novels anymore. He just didn’t want to do that thing over and over, the same character and the same stories.”
Howard directed both 2006's "The Da Vinci Code" which made $758 million worldwide, and its 2009 follow-up "Angels & Demons" which scored $485 million. Sony hired Steven Knight last year to adapt the script for 'Symbol'.
At this time Tom Hanks, who played Langdon in the previous two films, is not yet confirmed to be returning either.

They'd better not do it without Hanks!

A movie about a desperate race through Washington D.C, Freemason conspiracies, starring Tom Hanks, from the writer of Eastern Promises. Why the hell can't Christopher Nolan direct this!?!?!
