The Lovely Bones

Glad to see Gosling in this...Weiz and Gosling....awesome.

Cool to know he'll be doing nothing but adaptations and remakes since getting big. Not risking anything original, I admire that

Saoirse Ronan to Topline 'The Lovely Bones' For Peter Jackson

Saoirse Ronan has joined Rachel Weisz and Ryan Gosling in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones for DreamWorks, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Ronan will play Susie Salmon, the central character in Alice Sebold's book. In the 2002 best-seller, the story is told through the voice of Sussie, a young girl who is murdered but continues to observe her family on Earth after her death. She witnesses the impact of her death on her loved ones, while her killer skillfully covers his tracks and prepares to murder again. Weisz and Gosling are playing the grieving parents in "Bones," whose script was written by Jackson, Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.

I loved The Frighteners (this movie has the same theme of the life hereafter), so I trust PJ.

Source: The Hollywood Reporter
July 22, 2007

Stanley Tucci is in talks to play the pivotal role of killer George Harvey in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones for DreamWorks, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Rachel Weisz and Ryan Gosling will play the parents of Susie Salmon (newcomer Saoirse Ronan), a 14-year-old who has been raped and killed by a neighbor she refers to as Mr. Harvey. Alice Sebold's best-selling 2002 novel is told from the perspective of Susie, who looks down on her family and Harvey from the afterlife.

Jackson acquired rights to the acclaimed book and adapted it for the screen with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. Carolynne Cunningham, Jackson, Walsh and Aimee Peyronnet are producing the project, set to begin shooting in October in Pennsylvania and Jackson's native New Zealand.

Tessa Ross, Ken Kamins and Jim Wilson are producing the film, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Really greats cast..Tucci is realllly underrated

Sarandon in Jackson's Lovely Bones

Susan Sarandon has joined the cast of Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones, based on Alice Sebold's novel, for DreamWorks.

Rachel Weisz, Ryan Gosling and newcomer Saoirse Ronan star in the film, which Jackson begins shooting in October.

The story revolves around a young girl who watches over her family -- and killer -- from heaven. Sarandon will play the grandmother, who comes to live with the family after the girl's murder.

Stanley Tucci is circling the role of the killer.

As much as I love to rag on Jackson for being unoriginal, I hope this turns out well. I just recently watched Heavenly Creatures and it was really well done.

Certainly interested in what style this will be done in.

Wahlberg Replaces Gosling in The Lovely Bones
Source: Variety October 22, 2007

Mark Wahlberg has replaced Ryan Gosling in the Peter Jackson-directed The Lovely Bones, an adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel for DreamWorks.

Wahlberg has taken the role of Jack Salmon, the grieving father of a young girl. That role was vacated Friday by Lars and the Real Girl star Ryan Gosling, who stepped out one day before shooting began after gaining 20 pounds and growing a beard for the job. Variety says the exit is due to creative differences.

After reading the script, Wahlberg quickly committed Sunday. He joins Rachel Weisz as a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches over her family and her killer from heaven.

Jackson wrote the script with his "The Lord of the Rings" partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

The film begins shooting today in Pennsylvania, where Wahlberg most recently wrapped the lead in the M. Night Shyamalan-directed The Happening for Fox.

Wahlberg also recently committed to star with Brad Pitt in the Darren Aronofsky-directed The Fighter at Paramount. That picture is expected to begin production next fall.

thats disappointing. I like Gosling so much better than Wahlberg

^ Me too, but Wahlberg ain't that bad either? It doesn't matter. Rachel Weisz and Stanley Tucci are in it. I'm ****ing there.

Creative Differences??? Gain 20 pounds and grew a beard...work it out. At least Wahlberg is top notch, sad to see Gosling go though

The Lovely Lawsuit?
Fallout from Gosling's break with Bones.
by Stax

US, October 23, 2007 - The industry is buzzing about Ryan Gosling's abrupt departure Friday from director Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones and his subsequent replacement Sunday by Mark Wahlberg. Reports have emerged suggesting what prompted Gosling to quit the film and what might happen to him as a result.

According to The Los Angeles Times, "Jackson was said to be quite surprised that Gosling had showed up to start work on The Lovely Bones looking like he'd donned a fat suit. According to sources, the 26-year-old Gosling had apparently told the director he was going to gain weight to age himself up to play the part of a grieving father, but Jackson was still expecting some movie star allure -- not paunch and a beard."

"By Friday, Gosling had left the high-profile production over those pesky 'creative differences,' and, by Sunday, he'd been replaced by 36-year-old Mark Wahlberg, who actually could be old enough to father a teenager," the paper reports.

Now Slate.com claims that "apparently, the break with Gosling may lead to litigation" against the actor. The Lovely Bones is a DreamWorks movie, which means that would be Steven Spielberg's outfit suing him. Yikes.

Isn't that something him and Jackson should have discussed more in detail....If an actor says hes goign to gain weigth for a role, isn't it the job of the director to say not to go overboard.

Picture of Golsing btw

I think he looks fine...kinda Joaquin Phoenix in Reservation Road

Bad news, I don't like Wahlberg at all.:(

I was disappointed enough that PJ didn't cast Naomi.

Very stranger situation, I'm a big fan of Wahlberg though and he fits well age wise with Rachel who i love:heart::woot:
