Iron Man 3 The Mandarin in Iron Man 3...Love it or hate it? - Part 2

I hate comic books with a passion. I only watch movies by Marvel. I always say that characters like Mandarin suck, but I don't even know a single story with him. I just say that because I follow the bandwagon. I know that my opinion is biased, but I can't stop doing this. I want attention.

I can visit whatever thread I want, and my arrogant attitude still sucks ass.

That is one hell of a revelation.

But no. I am not ashamed of comics.

I think you are. You're just ashamed to admit that. It's a shame inside a shame.

Not sure where you got that from.

Maybe I got it from the fact that you have zero appreciation for certain comic book characters, comic book storylines, and that you're only interested in movies that are based on comics, not in comics themselves? Usually, comic book fans don't slam other comic book characters, even if they don't like them. It's usually faux movie fanatics that do that.

I do happen to have a comic book avvy, with a comic book movie quote as my username...

Liking comic book movies doesn't stop you from hating the comic books. MCU apologists love MCU but they could care less for comics.

on a comic book forum.

Correction: on a comic book movie forum. There is difference. ComicVine and ComicBook.com are comic book sites.

Also, calling someone ignorant and having a biased attitude seems a bit....i dunno...redundant? When doing the same thing lol

Have I ever said to someone on this forum that the character that they like sucks ass, or that they are wrong for liking something, hmm? I know you will try to justify your attitude, but face the facts, pal.

I will always think that Mandarin is a great comic book villain, of course. You can beat your head against the wall while trying prove me otherwise, but you will not prove anything. Why? Well, because you haven't read single comic book with Mandarin, thus your opinion is less than irrelevant.

That look like the villain in Big trouble in little China lol

Which was based on the ancient Chinese history and Chinese Wuxia folklore as well? Big headdress, long cloak with dragon hallmarks, which in China are called Hanfu.

That's like as if you would look at the picture of Silver Samurai and said, "Oh, look, it looks like a guy from the Last Samurai."

. The only acceptable way to rectify this is by eventually producing a more comic-accurate version of the character. Otherwise, Mandarin will continue to stand as one of Marvel Studios few mistakes, and perhaps the most glaring one.

I'm sure Marvel is really terrified of this, given the billion dollar gross they got on the movie. :lmao:

Even the most beloved franchises have their creative brain farts. That doesn't mean they shouldn't strive to improve on their choices in the future. No more INOs, EVER.

They just did it with Zemo, and shockingly, like the Mandarin, nobody cared!

And, not shockingly, he was the 2nd worst character that Marvel Studios has produced. Luckily, Civil War didn't need a villain because Sokovia Joe wasn't nearly interesting to carry a film. INOs = weak. Do or do not, but never wuss out.

So what I'm hearing is, like the fluster and buster about the Mandarin, it was ultimately just some people complaining about stuff on the internet again that had no impact in real life? Got it.

Haha, not even close. On the list of terrible villains Marvel Studios has put out, he's quite a ways down on the list. Shockingly, being "comics accurate" doesn't really mean anything when you're written in a boring or crappy manner!

Nope, Mandarin and Zemo are in a class by themselves as the only bad villains Marvel Studios has done. It's a shame when they choose hollow plot devices over time-honored characters.

LOL literally nobody else would ever believe those are the only bad villains Marvel Studios has ever done. Marvel has a reputation for having lame villains and the consensus on Zemo was mixed anyhow.

Marvel has done some amazing work with their villains, so I've always dismissed the criticisms as uninitiated critics and fans doing what they do. However, Marvel Studios deserves every bit of the criticism they have gotten over their INOs.

They have Loki. That's about it.

However, Marvel Studios deserves every bit of the criticism they have gotten over their INOs.

Yes, all that criticism they got from the 10 people on the internet who actually care about those things. I'm sure it's got Marvel shook.

The Mandarin debacle made quite a splash with Iron Man comic readers. They were rightly outraged. After seeing Red Skull, Abomination, Iron Monger, Loki, the Frost Giants, and Arnim Zola handled with reverence, I'm sure seeing Mandarin gutted was a slap in the face.

Who either didn't care enough to not see the movie or who weren't numerous enough to make any real impact to begin with.

The Dark Knight trilogy made two+ billion dollars at the box office and was acclaimed all around the globe. However, when Warner. Brothers were making Batman v Superman, they made sure that Batman won't speak anymore with a growly voice like in previous movies, due to people's criticism for it. So even if your brand makes money, you still can take criticism to improve certain things in order to make it better. Same case here. Did Iron Man 3 made money? Yes. Did people love what it have done with Mandarin? Yeah, sure...

Ah, so get rid of one problem, and create millions of others. :funny:

Great idea and comparison, and total reason to bump a dead thread.

That's really besides the point. The voice change was better received than the original idea from previous movies. It has nothing to do with what movies were better. Also, if this thread is dead, why you keep responding to it?

But you still monitoring this thread, despite its irrelevance.

As I've said, just because you try to present your subjectivity as a factual thing, it will not become a factual thing. You didn't gave me any legit reasons as to why you think Mandarin is "garbage", so I don't consider your opinion to be valid in this case.

By the way, Mandarin is still one of the best comic book villains ever created.

Other aspects of the character are scattered throughout the entire movie (and between Killian - who is the actual Mandarin - and Trevor Slattery) in a very smart way.

Shane Black included all of the characters' traits from the comics in the movie (except for the power rings and Fing Fang Foom). Just not in a linear way.
