Oh I just saw that tweet : "Fun fact: @amandlastenberg was a finalist for the role that ultimately went to @Zendaya in the new SPIDER-MAN movie. Producers loved her."
omg the comment on that tweet "not enough twitter followers I guess"
I laughed even though I like both actresses.
Zendaya whatever she auditioned she must really nailed it.
She was in the running to play Storm, and before that she was gonna star in a lifetime biopic before she dropped out of it.
that's interesting.
I wonder if any white actresses auditioned for the same role that Zendaya and Amandla auditioned for?
The fact that 2 biracially black actresses were in the running has me wondering if the character their playing will now be black or biracial, if the character is acknowledged as now being biracial, fans can't really say it was a "race change", considering simplistic terms of biracial is 50% one race and 50% another.
But with the lack of information and just general secrecy we can never really know anything about the casting process.
Although, when Tony was revealed to be cast as 'Manuel', we had a Latino actor
(not famous) on instagram and an Asian actor
(not famous) on twitter talk about auditioning for that role, and if I'm not mistaken Lorenzo James Henrie from Fear The Walking Dead talked about auditioning for Spider-Man ...as what we don't know.
if only actresses of a similar ethnicity to Zendaya and Amandla auditioned for that part, that kind of leads me to believe the role is NOT for MJ. Somehow, I have a hard time believing Marvel would just decide to race change Peter's most iconic LI and only look for actresses of a certain ethnicity to play the part.
I would agree with that if Zendaya's casting was the only one to show this, but Tony Revolori's casting seemed to only have
(as far as we know) asian and latino actors going for the role, and Tony could very well be Flash or Harry.
well that could be Liz, Betty, or Black Cat.
important in future films doesn't have to mean she'll be a LI.
Laura Harrier is most likely Liz, not only does she have a significant role, and is beautiful, but unlike the rest of the young cast who are 19 turning 20, she's 23, which means by the time filming starts for the sequel she'll be 25, while Tom, Zendaya, and Tony will be around 21.
So Marvel might be hiring slightly
(just slightly) older actors who they can essentially phase out throughout Peter's high school time and not grow with the franchise like Tom, Zendaya, and Tony's characters would.
so, let's say Amandla got the part instead of Zendaya, would she make a good MJ?
does she fit the part of MJ, or would you say she's seems more suited for a different role?
guess I'm trying to deduce the role based on the type of actresses who auditioned for it.
I have a hard time imagining Amandla as MJ, or in a love interest role, I see her going for social political indie movie roles or just roles that are a part of movies with messages b/c of her open activism. But she is a young actress, that is trying to break out, and she does write her own comic, so she may be a fan of Spider-Man or is aware of Spider-Man in general, or just wants to act in fun movies... if I think about it, I can see her as 1610!MJ.
