The initial shortlist did say that she would likely drop out of the running due to her Spider-Man commitments

I NEVER had a problem with her being MJ. It's not the forced feeling that FFINO had with its race change of Johnny Storm.

Yeah, and it's not even that MBJ would've been a bad Human Torch 'cause he already had what a lot of fans think of when it comes to Johnny. The issue was that it was blatantly Trank using his buddy to have him in another movie and it just so happened to be Human Torch.

From there, optimists gave him the benefit of the doubt whereas pessimists were against the idea entirely. Seems like the pessimists won upon release, as the writing killed whatever MBJ could've been as Torch. :oldrazz:

Let me just bring this up. Let's say they cast Zendaya, wanting an MJ who is half white and half black. Wasn't part of MJ's backstory was her party girl was a facade to hide an abusive home life? That her dad beat her mom? If they go into that, won't that bring up other issues with one parent white and another black (irregardless of who is who)? Now of course they could change that aspect of MJ's background. Just wondering if this sets up a problem down the line.

To be clear, I would be disappointed if she turns out to be MJ, but I would still give her a chance, partly thanks to my faith in Marvel Studios.

was that actually part of MJ's background in the comics, or was that just in the Raimi films?

and I'd have just as much problem with Zendaya playing White Tiger for that reason.
Yeah, regardless of how you think she looks, you'd be taking that opportunity away from an 'actual' Latino actor..

I remember something about abuse in the comics, but wasn't sure if it was her parents or her sister and her husband (or both).

Irregardless ain't a word and it wouldn't be a problem

I always thought that it was more of a façade to hide her actually being insecure about herself?

Also when I think of what MJ's "defining characteristics" are, I think of a beautiful (and she knows it), charming, witty, party girl who is the center of attention, but who also is a very intelligent, tough, caring, compassionate person with a lot of inner wisdom.

And, all of that can still be present if she's Black, or half-Black, or any race really.

yeah. the bright red shades don't like right on her.

they definitely need to go for the darker shade of red.

or go for more of an auburn brunette look.

As nitpicky as it sounds, whether or not she'd look good with red hair would be my concern as well. But I agree that they possibly could pull off a darker, brownish shade of red with her.

As did I.

Bingo.

Just made this as a compilation:

Take your pick.

This is probably how her hair or a wig will look with a dark red color for her complexion, if they even have her change her hair color, and that's even if she's MJ.

Question is, what is there to even say MJ is in the first movie, what if Betty and Liz feature in the first movie?

Betty not a love interest for teen Peter and Liz & MJ co-exist in the comics. The Ultimate comics even had them as best friends.

I actually kinda like the curly hair look for MJ

MJ had an abusive father. MJ's sister married what turned out to be an abusive husband.

I thought it was stated that Betty is the same age as Peter by someone like Stan or something.

And I know about MJ and Liz in the Ultimate Comics and Spider-Man loves Mary Jane, but I was just thinking despite the directors being inspired by certain comics, they could still maybe want to hold off on characters.

I wouldn't mind seeing a different hairstyle for MJ in every movie.

Yeah, Betty's age is kinda confusing to me, I don't think he hooked up with her until College. I don't think Liz/and/or Betty's inclusion will exclude MJ.

Curly haired MJ looks really like an outdated 80s look.
