The Amazing Spider-Man The Mary Jane Watson Thread

Hey crane...quit spamming Elena Satines audition. We get it...you're another Satine fan. The more you post it...just makes it more annoying...doesnt convince anyone...its on the same dang page infact.
kthx.

Spider-Man 3 did it. Even if Gwen was used as just the other girl, she was still a love interest to Peter. Either way, even if MJ was in the reboot, she wouldn't be a love interest and her role would probably be minimal. Gwen is the main female lead.
Notice, I said real love interest, not a minor fling/relationship obstacle.

I'm referring to a single guy with powers being interested in more than one girl. It's not like it's unrealistic.

I did notice, which is why I said "even though she was used as just the other girl." ;)

But I get what your saying...

Either way, I'm fine with using MJ now as a secondary character or saving her for the sequel.

I can see your clearly upset over the fact that your Rangers completely CHOKED in the world series, but even still for someone who said "Elena is that she isnt as talented an actress as MEW" I thought YOU of all people would want to see what a Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, and NYC Professional Performing Arts School alum is capable of.

wow...you are a troll...you need to grow up...but........wouldnt you consider the yankees chokers as well...considering we beat them
YOU MAD ;)
also i feel that MEW is more talented...all the schooling in the world doesnt make you better...but MEW and Elena probably wont get the role of MJ anyway...thats just fanboys choices...they drool at the thought but its unlikely

All I said was quit spamming that video...its annoying...and you have to cry like a child and attack back cause you feel i hurt you...

Actually i would cuz im a Mets fan lol. Look i like MEW alot (Scott Pilgrim and Death Race were awesome) but I dont think i've ever seen her do anything really dramatic, unless u count waiting around for John McClane to save you. Elena a fresh face like Garfield, which means alot of people dont know about her at all. But when u spend that much time perfecting your craft it means u have talent. Elena's problem is that no one seen it yet.

BTW I actually hope u do keep Cliff Lee and the yanks dont buy him.

eh...then your team was no where to be found while we were in the world series...you were better off as a possible yankee fan...so dont come in here with your garbage. Who cares about sports in this section anyway? its just going off topic because you needed some comeback to better your self esteem.
I'm not a MEW fan myself...I dont care for her...I prefer her acting over what I've seen of Elena Satine...who I find mediocre...which is my opinion(just in case you feel the need to be one of those guys who tries to change it)
I wouldnt compare Elena with Andrew...
Garfield proved himself in several films....especially with The Social Network...yet I've yet to see anything on any level like Andrew that Elena has been in and the video you felt the need to post twice didnt really prove much to me...seemed like a good audition but I too feel she is boring...but I mean I wouldnt hate if Elena were cast as MJ...I just highly doubt she gets cast...
Sorry if I seem mean...but you randomly attack me with weak stuff like that...when all i did was ask a favor and then expect things to be a cool convo...

Dude calm it down I'm not attacking I really respect the fact that u want quality acting over looks or I'm the same way, And I know you haven't seen anything Elena has done on a the level Andrew has cuz there isnt any.... yet. Thats the point she is an unknown just like Andrew was before the social network (although "Boy A" was where he had me) Her best work has been on stage. Point is she has range thats a fact. I'm not gonna try to change ur mind. Lol it's your mind not mine, but that audition is for all the peeps who claims she can't act at all.

And don't apologize... makes me think u don't have a sense of humor

I've been seeing that type of comment lately. Can anyone explain this supposed relationship between phenotype and nationality?

When I think of an American girl, I think in terms of Betty Page. Young women you might see in that classic pin-up girl light, like Rachel McAdams or Jennifer Garner. Moderately thin lips, wide smiles, bright eyes. In this regard, I find that either Mary-Elizabeth Winstead or Amber Heard would be perfect for the role.

So according to The Wrap, Mary Jane won't appear in the movie at all.

Meanwhile, an individual familiar with the project has told TheWrap that Mary Jane Watson will not appear in the film after all, as the character is not currently featured in James Vanderbilt's screenplay, and apparently never was. Back in September, Deal Central reported that Mary Jane would appear in the new "Spider-Man," as the script featured two love interests competing for the affections Peter Parker. However, that wasn't quite true.

Evidently, there had been some discussions about Emma Stone playing red-haired MJ, but once she was cast as Gwen Stacy, the filmmakers decided to trust their instincts and stick with one love interest.

Frankly, Stone's Gwen Stacy should provide more than enough romance for Andrew Garfield, who takes over the role of the teenage web-slinger from Tobey Maguire.

Well, it certainly does make sense for the filmmakers to do this. Not only does it distinguish itself from the Raimi films, but it's understandable why they would just stick with Gwen instead having both Gwen and Mary Jane in the first reboot film, because having a love triangle that early might be too complicated. Better to save her for the second movie where we can also get a take-off of her classic entrance. Not to mention Sony has to get a Spider-Man movie out ASAP or their rights go to Disney.

Even so, it's still difficult to picture Emma Stone playing the part of Gwen, and I do wonder whether or not the absence of MJ as a character might be confusing for those who watched the Raimi films and are not keeping up to date with the breaking movie news, especially since the general public see Peter and MJ as couple.

I figured MJ wouldnt appear in the first film, perhaps a small cameo near the end is still viable but that would probably have to be top secret. Im glad she wont appear in the first film, now everyone can be happy again because by the time the second one starts pre-production everyone like MEW, Agron, Satine will be in the running again! And by that time itll be in college so no "she looks like a freshmen in college" crap anymore! YAY!

They won't give a damn one way or the other if the movie delivers.

Bingo

And besides, good marketing can help. If they say in the trailers or whatever that they're starting over, people will get it. It has to be subtle, but it can work?

This is gonna be like every other superhero movie only having one love interest.

Here was me thinking it might be a bit different.

:whatever:

Having no Mary Jane is like a Superman movie having no Lois Lane, it just cant happen.

They can at least just have a quick cameo.

I don't know if you know this, but Gwen Stacy was Peter Parkers first true love

She'll show up eventually

Maybe not initially, but sooner or later the audience is going wonder when she's going to show up in the reboot movies. Especially since, as far the popular culture is concerned (and in particular the one's who aren't regular readers of the comic book which the movie has to appeal to moreso than comic book readers if it wants to gets people's butts in the theater) Mary Jane is more regarded as Spider-Man's love interest than Gwen Stacy ever was.

The mainstream's knowledge relies on the films. The more relevant a movie is to them, the sooner previous "facts" are extinguished.

I'm sure people were wondering why Joker didn't kill Bruce's parents in Batman Begins, but that obviously fell to the wayside when TDK came along. They just didn't care.

Judging from the reaction to Dunst as MJ, I doubt they care for the character anyway. At least until someone new comes along.

But the point is, even though the Joker was not the killer of Bruce Wayne's parents in Christopher Nolan's Batman films, he still showed up in the films just as the fans were expecting him to do. To illustrate the point further, what do you see the current speculation about The Dark Knight Rises is right now? It's about whether or not Catwoman going to show up in the film as Batman's new love interest or not.

And that's the point. There are certain comic book characters who have far more name recognition with both comic book readers and those who may be familiar with the characters but have never actually read the comic book. Ask yourselves why Gwen Stacy, out of all of Spider-Man's other love interests, was chosen to be the main love interest. Could it be because the filmmakers not only wanted to distinguish the reboot film from Raimi's Spider-Man films, but because next to MJ, Gwen is the other love interest that comes to mind? Ask yourselves why the Lizard, out of all of Spider-Man rogues gallery, was chosen as the main villain? Could it be because just like the filmmakers wanted to set their film apart by having Gwen Stacy as the love interest, they needed a villain that was prominent enough to possibly carry a movie but not on quite on the level of The Green Goblin, Doc Ock, or Venom?

And BTW, you can bet there's already talk about whether or not those villains are going to show up again in the reboot films. And if people are wondering whether or not the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, or Venom are going to come back eventually, then there's certainly going to be the same amount of speculation for Mary Jane. Heck, just the very fact that there were people who assumed Mary Jane was going to be in the movie along with Gwen before it was made official that only Gwen would be in the movie is proof enough that there are people who do care about when she's going to show up.

Your original post was pointing out a possible confusion in the absence of MJ, since she is Peter's girlfriend in their eyes. I'm contending that it won't matter if the film is a success as a movie and with Gwen as a character. I'm not concerned with MJs recognition as much as I am with her current popularity. Which I'm confident isn't much if Dunst is all they have to go on.

If your point is about expectation, then that invalidates your first point as now we are going under the presumption that they know this is a refresh and are looking forward to who the next actress in the role will be. But again, if Gwen is up to snuff as the romantic lead then I don't really think they'd care. Audiences go to these films for the adventure and Spidey, not for his girl. Whatever the size of this unanimous group that are pining for MJ, it's not going to put a dent in this series' success.

I think it's good to leave MJ out of this movie, it helps differentiate and distance itself from the previous trilogy.

Mia Wasikowska from Alice in Wonderland was going to play MJ.

Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska was going to be Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man. That’s what I was told earlier this week. But as you’ve no doubt read elsewhere, Sony has decided not to include the character in this next installment. Smart - the character never featured in the script anyway, but Sony considered “slotting her in” somewhere. It was ultimately decided that Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacey would be enough woman for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield). Still a chance Mary Jane may appear at the very tail end of the film, to set up the sequel, but that’s just speculation. Be interesting to see if Sony goes back to Wasikowska when they do decide to bring the red-haired beauty into the mix.
