The MATRIX Appreciation Thread

Why do people hate this movie as if it raped their mother?

"The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it." - Morpheus

I see the same thing happen with Transformers and Superman Returns. They disagree with a certain aspect of a film, so they trash it relentlessly. Pathetic really.

No it's not the same.

The Matrix bashers aren't attacking the storytelling, dialogue, or pacing. They're attacking the message.

I always thought it was just because it was cool to hate The Matrix.

That is it.

I went to a Midnight showing of The Matrix Reloaded with a bunch of my brothers friends. And right after, everyone loved it. They were talking about how badass it was and how excited they were for Revolutions. But somewhere between Reloaded and Revolutions they all wound up hating it.
I don't know what happened. Somehow they went from loving it to despising it and waiting for Revolutions to suck within the span of a few months.

Alot of people fell on the bandwagon of hating The Matrix sequels. Some people have legitiment reasons to dislike them, but most people can't really say more than "Keanu sucked! The cgi was stupid! The story made no sense"

I don't like the sequels, but anyone who says The Matrix and Animatrix were "lame" or a complete waste of time is highly suspect in my book.

Those people took the blue pill and washed it down with kool aid.

True...When the Matrix Reloaded was first release everyone loved it, people thought it was amazing...but then people quickly started hating it, which is weird. The sequels aren't that bad...they have a good message and focus a lot on religion. I just think they didn't meet up to the original; also there was a lot of unnecessary scenes. As someone mentioned earlier...if the Wachowski's couldv'e edited both Matrix sequels into one big film and taking away unnecessary scenes..it would've been a lot better
But I still think the sequels are enjoyable, but they're way out of the league of the original

The only reason people thought so highly of the first one was because of the special effects. You take those out and you have a mediocre movie.

*sings* player hater, turn your head round, lay on the ground, you've been robbed. Wake up (echo), open the door, lay on the floor, you've been robbed.

I love Matrix Reloaded but hate Revolutions.

I loved the Matrix and it wasn't because that it was "cool" to bash the sequels. It just became overly pretentious and tried to be smarter than the room and in doing so, kinda went off track of why most people loved the 1st movie.

If a mod could move this into the 90s Appreciation thread I set up, that'd be great.

The first Matrix film is amazing...Reloaded and Revolutions...not so much. :o

I felt all three films were incredible. Say what you want, but its what I think. :o

Each has its own individual strengths and trying to compare The Matrix to The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions is like apples and oranges.

The Matrix was fresh and original, part of the 90s cinematic revolution. It was thought provoking and entertaining all at once, deep enough to warrant lots of discussion, but also had enough new special effects and action to thoroughly entertain. I brought a decade f incredible films to a close with the biggest bang ever, and has since become an acknowledged classic with a great deal of influence on sco-fi movies such as Equilibrium, etc.

The Matrix Reloaded, which of course not as fresh and original, seing as how it was a sequel, proved just as thought-provoking as its predecessor, albeit with more obscure philosophical themes. The spceial effects were vastly improved, as well as the action. Though not as influential and original as the first film, it still proved to be a thoroughly entertaining thrill ride.

The Matrix Revolutions finds itself unfortunately on the heels to two already great films, so any flaws are going to be judged far more harshly when compared to the other films. The main flaw being the lack of time spent in the matrix, where all the best action, philosophical dialogue, and overal entertainment lies. However, the special effects used for the battle of zion were only outshined by the final battle between Neo and Smith. On that note, the climax of the movie is more than worth the wait it takes to get back to Neo's journey. Personally, that final battle through the rain of the city ovverrun by Smith, now taking one of the apocalyptic turns in movie history. Even most disaster films based on reality didnt have near the impending sense of doom that the climactic battle had.

All in all, I find that the trilogy was easily the best sci-fi series after Star Wars, and deserves way most credit than people give it. :word:

The first Matrix film was best,it did make people think..and even myself when i saw it in Theathers.I have the VHS of The Matrix,i still watch it every so often.

This is all a simulation...what is real..how do we define what is real?

The original Matrix is a great movie. One of the best science-fiction movies. I really love it.

...but I totally hate the sequels - such a huge letdown!

I love all 3 Matrix movies. The sequels get FAR too much hate. In subsequent viewings, they have only gotten better to me, and they measure up to the original imo.

Do you also think Spider-Man 3 is superior to the first and second?

I didn't say superior, I said they stand up to it. Meaning they are not that far from being equal (though the first is the best).

To answer your question though, SM2 was easily the best Spider-Man movie.
