The Matrix Resurrections

I get more confident this movie Will be really interesting the more i watch the trailer.

It's really dawning on me how starved we are for truly ambitious filmmaking when it comes to blockbuster franchises and why this movie feels like it could be such a breath of fresh air right now. Especially in the troubled times we're living in.

And, I know there have been MCU films like Guardians and Thor Ragnarok that have unique artistic vision and I applaud that. But they're still just fun, entertaining movies that don't really challenge you or make you think about big things or engage with it in that way. There's nothing wrong with that, not everything has to be a meditation on the nature of consciousness, but dammit, there's a way to do that and still have it be a fun movie. The Wachowskis proved that back in the day.

Heck, after my Reloaded rewatch last night, I've come to the conclusion that I'd take Reloaded over like 90% of MCU films. In terms of action, story, cinematography, score....pretty much in every way. They were better superhero movies than most superhero movies. The only thing is that some of the CGI of Neo doesn't hold up, but I will forgive that because we're dealing with the rendering capabilities of 20 years ago and it was pushing the envelope for the time.

I'm seriously glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Reloaded is such a blast of a movie, and I never get tired of watching it. That highway sequence is still breathtaking and it was only recently I learned they built that thing!

reloaded is one of those films where i initially disliked upon watching the first time in theaters, but then greatly enjoyed when watching again at home.

i guess it's because they threw so much into the movie that its jarring at first. and it was so different from the first film. so it took my mind some time to adjust.

that car chase scene is awesome!

I can totally understand the complaints about Reloaded being uneven and it being talk talk talk, action action action...but here's the thing for me. I find most of the long dialogue sections to be really engaging and interesting. Neo's talk with the Oracle is so important with setting up where it's all going. Same with Merv's part too. But from there on, the movie really flies, no pun intended. The chateau fight and highway sequence are just SO good and a total blast. And I really do think the Architect twist is brilliant, the "I am your father" of the series.

My wife's comment watching it was that it felt more stuffed and muddier than the first film. And I get that. I think she started appreciating it more when I explained the relevance of Merv's speech. When you're watching it for the first time it just seems like a random philosophy lesson, but it all ties directly to the ending.

Yup. I think there's so much to Reloaded, and the newly introduced characters there that a lot of people over looked at the time. The Merovingian essentially being a devil like figure was always fascinating to me. There's so much to his introduction scene that people overlook. Everything coming out of his mouth is manipulation described as a lesson. I really can't wait to see what his purpose is in the new movie.

Btw, would you guys suggest I watch Cloud Atlas? I wasn't a fan of Jupiter Ascending.

I may be in the minority and it's been awhile since I've seen it, but I liked it and it is definitely worth watching if you like the Wachowskis. Even if you don't love the movie, there is still much to appreciate in it.

I didn’t care much for Cloud Atlas but that’s because I read the book and I didn’t like the changes that the Wachowskis and Tykwer made to the story. But people I know who haven’t read the book really loved the film so maybe just don’t read the book first, haha.

But above all else I recommend Sense 8. THAT series is the Wachowski’s magnum opus as far as I’m concerned. It felt like all the things they tried to do in Cloud Atlas (and kinda got wrong) they got totally right in Sense 8.

I need to give Cloud Atlas another chance. Admittedly, it's one of those movies that I tried to watch when I was too tired and just couldn't really get through it properly. On paper, I loved the idea and ambition behind it.

I also need to watch Sense8. I've decided though that I'm going to wait until I see Resurrections, just in case there are some ideas there that they repurpose or start to paint a picture of where they might go. At this point I'd rather get hit with them fresh in a Matrix film and then work backwards to see how they got there.

Thanks guys. I'll probably give it a watch soon because I am curious, regardless of whether i end up liking it or not haha.

i watched bits of cloud atlas but i couldn't get past the yellow-face makeup. lol.

it looked really weird.

Cloud Atlas is the best thing they’ve done since the original The Matrix.
I almost agree since I prefer the Matrix sequels but the bar isn't really set that high, at least going by their films since I haven't seen Sense8. Speed Racer is a faithful adaptation but way too bloated, and the less said about Jupiter Ascending the better. I probably wouldn't have even seen Cloud Atlas if not for my power at home being out from Hurricane Sandy at the time. I did have to laugh uncontrollably at the reference to it in Rick and Morty because of how obscure of a film it is, even with A-listers like Tom Hanks and Halle Berry.

I mean this in all sincerity, and I preface it by saying Keanu is one of my favorite actors, but has anyone thought he would have been an all time great silent film actor? I think he’s not a great deliverer of huge amounts of verbiage, but I think he’s absolutely one of the best at non-verbal communication. His expressions always seem so iconic to me, and I feel like later in life directors have learned to give him less to say, but I feel like he actually expresses more in that case.

Even in speed there is a lot of emotions from his face that make the movie work well. Plus the great chemistry with Bullock
