The Matrix Resurrections

Nicw way to bring up an event that has already been discussed and closed. The date of the GvK trailer was a few posts above the previous posters head but that is done and dusted.

I'm not a huge Matrix fan and was just curious if the plot has leaked. I dont plan or or have time to read 40 pages worth of posts.

You have been reported for being problematic.

And we rejected your report for it not being problematic. How about you settle down and not take things so personally? This is a warning. Next time I'll give you an infraction.

Is it weird that this is my least anticipated film of the year? I see no reason to get back into this world, and the Wachowskis couldn't find a proper outlet for their talent beyond the second Matrix (which I thoroughly enjoyed) and, maybe, Cloud Atlas.
It feels one of those "oh well we couldn't get another hit film, let's get back to what we know worked once". I hope I'm wrong and the new film gets closer to the original than the sequels.

I see a reason to return to the world. I think there's a lot to explore within it. Original characters, prequels, etc.
However continuing the story of Neo, Trinity, etc I think is kinda lame. I don't really care if something is a sequel, prequel, reboot, etc. as long as it's good. However, I'm getting tired of them bringing back characters and stories that have ended.

It does make me wonder that they might've only come back because they hadn't had big success since the Matrix

Revolutions was pretty conclusive. THEY concluded it. Is not like they left many doors open for another one, so it feels a bit fishy that they (well, she) is doing another one. It could be good, I'm not saying it won't, but I can bet that it won't be a neccesary chapter to the overall story.
I'm having Toy Story 4 flashbacks, that it was more like an epilogue for Woody than an actual 4th part. The story ended in 3.

Still breaks my damn heart.
4 was good no doubt, but it didn't reach the heights of the first 3 and it ruined, imo, the best movie trilogy ever and one of the best film series endings ever

Yeah, I'm with you. The fact that the original gang had almost NOTHING to do was a huge let down for me. I would've been a lot more forgiving if the adventure included everyone again. Oh well.

I think 100% this. They’d now be talking about the end of their Jupiter Ascending trilogy had things gone differently. WB would be asking if they’d like to return to the Matrix trilogy, and they’d say they’d rather go back to the Speed Racer trilogy.

They blew it with Speed Racer. There are some great great stuff in it and some truly awful, awful stuff too. I honestly don't know what they were thinking. Specially after doing such a great chase in Reloaded, I remember when they announced they were doing Speed I thought 'oh wow, is gonna be the freeway chase but times 10!". Boy was I wrong.

I don't like Speed Racer but I know that movie has a big cult following.

It was a misstep

I'm one of those who love Cloud Atlas (not as much as The Matrix but not that far off either) so I still have some faith in Matrix 4 to turn out decent even if the Wachowski filmography overall has gone downhill.

I completely forgot that the Wachowskis did Speed Racer. Or more accurately, I forgot that the Speed Racer movie exists. I don't remember it being that bad but it sure as hell wasn't good.

Cloud Atlas was just a weird, weird movie. I remember I went to see it solely because I had lost power during Hurricane Sandy so I was practically living at the movie theater and the gym for a week. Otherwise I might have never given it the chance. I didn't hate it. I also found myself questioning how in the hell it got greenlit because of how bizarre it all is, though that's more on the source material than the Wachowskis. I did laugh really hard when it got referenced on Rick and Morty because it was such an under the radar movie even when it was released.

I didn't bother seeing Jupiter Ascending. I just watched the Cinemasins video on it and I clearly missed nothing. :o

Never saw Jupiter Ascending but the CG SFX looked incredible when I saw the trailer in theaters.

Hope Matrix keeps that high bar because CG SFX have gone down in recent year imo

Jupiter Ascending is one of my "I'll watch it whenever it's on" guilty pleasure movies, tbh. There are so many WTF choices but also some cool ideas, visuals and world-building...I like to watch it and imagine the better movie within, lol.

It's a terrible movie, but kind of how you can watch those 90s terrible blockbusters but still enjoy. Only true visionaries can sometimes make something so badly entertaining.

It's funny how Speed Racer and Jupiter Ascending were both planned as their next franchise trilogies.

"Back to the Matrix, I guess...."

I feel like I'm the only one who's really hyped for this. I don't really know how it'll turn out but there's gotta be a reason to return after 20 years.

I'm not hyped not I'm not not hyped yet. Especially since we don't know any details yet.

Honestly I'd be more hyped if Neo and Trinity weren't in this. And sad to say, if a Wachowski wasn't involved I'd probably be more intrigued.

I am one of those unabashed lovers of Speed. I have never seen Cloud Atlas and did think Jupiter Ascending is a special kind of bad.

Matrix 4 could suck. Honestly, probably will. But it doesn't keep me from wanting to go back to the Matrix. It's a world I thoroughly enjoy and the returns of Neo and Trinity, with the added bonus of Henwick (the main reason I am excited), I am in.

The first one was in the right place at the right time. The internet was just starting to get bigger and more popular. Action movies needed a change to get out of the boring rut they were in. The sequels showed it was lightning in a bottle. I have little faith this one will be any good but I’m interested all the same.

The Matrix was the quintessential “1999” movie. Thats a movie that perfectly encapsulates that particular year. The style, the look, the vibe of the film was 1999 AF. The black, leather outfits and sunglasses, the techno/drum and bass soundtrack, the martial arts/gun-fu action, the “internet” based story. It was a product of its era, like @samsnee said, it was the right place at the right time.

Id like for this film to deal with how Zion natural born humans treat podborn matrix humans. The trilogy barely dealt with it. Podborn humans can plug in and learn complex skills instantly that take years for a natural human to learn which give pod humans a massive advantage in society. I can see how this could cause pod humans to see themselves as superior and how that could lead to a caste system emerging after everyone was unplugged from the matrix. And I can see how natural born humans may treat pod humans with prejudice and resentment because of that advantage and because the pod humans are part machine and they are pouring into zion and taking jobs and resources.

And I think more than a few humans are going to want to stay in the matrix or work with the machines which could cause further conflicts and prejudice between humans.

Matrix families being broken up after they are unplugged, and pod humans committing suicide after being unplugged could be serious problems too .

Yeap I feel the same toward the Scream reboot. Another movie that was in the right place at the right time (end of the 80s slasher films) that they won’t be able to recapture today.

I don't think I'm hyped about anything any more (don't kick me out) but I'm definitely curious and airing on the side of positive. The sheer visual imagination that first brought the Matrix to life is so fun that I can't help but wonder about the possibilities with modern day tech. The Wachowski touch always yields interesting results. There's not really a spotless record on the line anyway.

Hmm. The way you describe Jupiter Ascending makes me wonder. . . is it one of those bad ( or at least forgettable ) movies that could potentially have been awesome if it spawned a spinoff TV show? I'm imagining something like Buffy or Stargate.

Be fair, they outright said that *normally*, Zion doesn't unplug people nearly as old as Neo. The implication at least is that they know about all those problems, and so normally only free children who are young enough to adapt. Though the fact that they seemed to have procedures and practices to help Neo acclimate also suggests that freeing adults is not *unknown*, either.
