The Matrix Resurrections

I’ll watch this on HBOMax but honestly from what I’ve read, this sounds disappointing. I can see why that tweet said this movie was going to be divisive.

Not sure I'll like it, but I appreciate the effort. Doesn't sound lazy at all.

Copying so many fights and moments from the first film, and only changing minor details is pretty damn lazy. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the crew and actors worked their asses off to film the scenes, but it sounds like Lana was abusing the copy and past function when she was writing this thing.

And if this film isn't really good all those copied moments will just repeatedly remind the audience that they'd rather be watching the superior original fights and moments in the first film.

I'll say this much. For years we were hearing about a Matrix project that Zak Penn was writing (which he apparently claims is still a separate project still in development). When Lana signed on, I was wondering if it could've been a situation where she realized that WB was really going forward with another Matrix film with or without her blessing and ultimately decided to get involved because she didn't want someone else handling her baby without getting to have her say.

Based on some of the things I'm hearing, that feels more likely to me.

Sounds intriguing, not gonna lie. Not sold yet but it has peaked my interest considerably, which was zero.

I have no idea if I'm going to enjoy this either, but based on those plot spoilers it definitely sounds like an interesting/unique direction to take this franchise in.

Seeing how all this translates to the big screen and in context should give a much better indication as far as my experiance goes, but I can also see it being very divisive aswell.

I can't wait to rewatch those first three films though when this comes out, especially the original since they seem to be leaning alot on the nostalgia of that film.

Interesting theory (not Matrix 4 specific, but just the overall trilogy to date)

“The Matrix establishes that Humanity and the Machines went to war. Towards the end of the conflict, humanity scorched the sky to rob the Machines of their power source. We are led to believe that despite this feat, the Machines still won the war and enslaved humanity as an energy source. It’s been discussed to death that humans would be a terrible energy source for the Machines. So, why do they keep us alive?

For all the Architect's smugness, it seems to me that, considering the alterative, the humans have a pretty cushy existence inside the Matrix. Earth is destroyed, but we live on with all the perceived amenities of the modern world while the Machines endlessly toil away to keep us in perceived material comfort. If the Resistance achieved their goal of freeing us, they would have billions of unplugged humans, all in need rapid medical assistance to adjust to the real world. Zion could barely feed their own people, now they're supposed to sustain billions of disorganized humans on a dead planet?

I propose that Humanity won the war against the Machines when they scorched the sky. But, victory came at the terrible cost of destroying the planetary ecosystem. Having rendered the world conventionally uninhabitable, the survivors programed the remaining Machines to keep humans alive in a virtual reality, in perpetuity. The Machines are programed to think they won the war and that they need humans as a fuel source. The Machines slave away to keep up alive while we live on blissfully unaware in a digital utopia mirroring the supposed pinnacle of human civilization. The Machines continue on because they are the ones under the delusion of that they are in control.”

^ It's a twist that could work. The Animatrix currently contradicts that (as it shows us lose and surrender) but it could easily be from an unreliable narrator. The idea that we've doomed ourselves the Matrix was the better option would be a pretty cool twist and frankly better reflect our times.

I'm trying hard to resist reading any of these spoilers. I think I want to be relatively surprised when I see it. I already predicted that this will be a TLJ situation. This was always going to be the case coming from a Wachowski. That doesn't worry me at all tbh

Based on the alleged test screening spoilers, this definitely sounds more ambitious in its ideas which the original was all about. I’ll definitely be seeing this in theaters.

I'm all in for this. I've read some but not all of the info from the test screening "leaks". If true, this actually sounds even more interesting and exciting to me now. Love that it will hopefully be something very different than expected. I'm all for trying new things rather than just rehashing the same old story.

Did not know this bit.

Music by Tom Tykwer
The Wachowskis and German film director Tom Tykwer have a rich history together, as they co-wrote and co-directed “Cloud Atlas” director and then collaborated on the Netflix series “Sense8,” created by the Wachowskis and co-directed by Tykwer. Filmmaker Tykwer is the composer for “The Matrix 4,” replacing the original trilogy’s composer Don Davis. Tykwer is often a co-composer on his directorial efforts, from “Cloud Atlas” to “A Hologram for the King,” “Run Lola Run,” “Perfume: The Story of a Murderer,” and more.

Poor Don Davis.

But I'm sure Tykwer will incorporate the popular themes in there along with new stuff.

The real question; is Rage Against the Machine still doing stuff for an end song?

I was hoping Davis would return, but all I ask is that some of the themes return.

At this point, move it to next April or September. That way it gets its exclusive theatrical release for a couple months before going to VOD.

The Matrix and even the sequels were really important movies to me growing up. I really hope this doesn't disappoint.
