The Matrix Resurrections

Seems odd to me we are less than 2 days out and just a handful of Twitter reactions out there.

Disagree.

Abrams (I don't like him at all) make a story (stupid story), about how guy named Snoke destroyed everything that Luke, Leia and Han accomplished (offscreen) and then comes Rian Johnson and he kill off Snoke for "shock value" and basically tells us that he didn't matter... Not because this makes narrative sense, but because Rian didn't care about him. I spent a lot of time trying to understand Rian Johnson and I honestly think that this guy cared only about "his" story and nothing else.

This movie is not even half as clever as Rian's thoughts, the twists get predictable and absurd at some point, and I know a lot of people in the TLJ production advised Rian to change som things and he was too confident to consider them.

TLJ isn't even that subversive, most of the things is still copy/paste of what we saw in the original trilogy but with "twists". But that's just my opinion.

Is there anything, any film, or anyone you do like?

I have to say...seeing Youtube thumbnails that say "MATRIX 4 IS A WOKE DISASTER"...from people who haven't even seen the film yet....makes me really want to unplug from The Matrix Youtube Algorithm. Just...

It makes me so sad that, while the sequels were divided, the conversation was still with fans on message boards, trying to decode the films and understand the layers, etc. It was at least rooted in some form of an attempt at an intelligent, honest conversation.

Today's fandom seemingly only want to judge the movie through the most simplistic of lenses, smear it with a 4 letter trigger word and harvest clicks. It's absolutely pathetic.

Matrix (and Wachowskis) was always woke. What separates Resurrections from the rest is that there are some bizarre and on the nose scenes regarding female empowerment, which made me wonder why it had to be done like that, when they already did it right in the past, multiple times, and nobody panicked.

Last time guys, no more Star Wars debates. Take them to the Star Wars forum. The next time this becomes a Star Wars debate thread, I am offering warning points and a nice week long vacation so you can enjoy not being able to discuss the movie when it opens. Which will apply to anyone who decides to ignore me beyond this post

Talk about The Matrix.

For argument's sake....the term "red pill" was co-opted. There's that whole thing. Lana could be making herself a little more clear this time to reclaim the term/ideas.

Let's tread carefully with this discussion though. My only point was it's sad that this is what fandom has come to when it comes to using outrage about this topic in such a cynical way.

Interesting. I never felt the original trilogy was woke, but I guess there's many ways to interpret the Matrix. And when films are done so good, and it's not pushed in your face, or beating your head over with it, then it doesn't really matter. I think the Matrix has so many elements from everything, that's what makes it great, just like any big franchise.

Because at that time, Incel boys havent screamed "woke" so relentlessly at everything and everyone that you didnt subconsciously think about if that might be true.
Matrix was woke, Comics were always woke, most Entertainment mediums...were always woke.

But when you have people daily scream the word "woke" at every tiny little thing, poison peoples mind with the idea that wokeness is maybe "pushed in your face" etc, even the most stable mind isnt safe of the idea.

Question for those who have seen the movie: apparently The Merovingian from the last 2 movie's back but we haven't seen ANYTHING of him. Without much detail, is he really in the movie and what kind of role does he have?

People throw woke around way too loosely these days.

He was in the trailer or spot, but he looked different.

He's in the Deja Vu TV Spot (0:22):

I can agree with this.

I try to get a broad view of opinions from each perspective. Sometimes I agree with one side, sometimes the other. There's a balance I feel that seems to be lacking with a lot of stuff these days. But it is what it is.

I've seen the Matrix as many things, I think even Lana Wachowski said she wants people to view the films and think whatever they want to about them, she's just glad people are still talking about them. I can see how it could be a trans-inspired story, just as I could see it being a more Christian inspired story, which I dig.

I'm curious, what is considered "woke" in the original Matrix? Geniune question.

People would be crying about Switch today. She’s clearly lgbt. Her name is fricking switch. Which I guess is a reference to gender fluidity.

most of the freed in Zion are clearly black and some are visibly lgbt.

And as you said, the first film being an allegory for transitioning. Which was confirmed by Lana herself.

I would say the fact that they had a very diverse cast for their movies and then even down to the actual characters and their personalities/motivations.

The Wachowskis nailed those aspects.

Same could be said about Trinity a little. There was a line or two about people mistaking her for a man in the first movie. Then in the Animatrix for Detective Story they gave her an androgynous look.

No, they wouldn't. Because it's subtle. Most people didn't even think about it when they watched Matrix and they only know it because they read about it somewhere.
