The Matrix Resurrections

As anyone in the DC boards can tell you, I got no problem dying on the hill of a divisive genre flick. Sign me tf up,fam.

So the cast list on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes give a pretty big spoiler that wasn’t apparent in the trailers. Was this widely known?

I hope it stays fresh. I’ll see it either way and the Wachowskis have made some bad films in the past but the combo of the first Matrix, Bound and especially Sense 8 makes me always want to root for them.

There were moments in Jupiter Ascending where I honestly little embarrassed for the movie, but despite some of the facepalming I was doing, I still found a few gems of ideas in there. They jammed like an entire trilogy's worth of mythology into that film, I think that's what brought it down while at the same time I'm just like "I still love you crazy SOBs for actually TRYING" hah.

So yeah, I'll always root for the Wachowskis. Even when I don't love their work, I'm never mad about it and find myself admiring the ambition and fresh perspective. But I will say, I've always felt the Matrix world is just bursting with potential for so many interesting ideas and stories that the idea of Lana playing in that sandbox again vs. trying to build a sci-fi world up from scratch again (like Jupiter Ascending) has me very tickled.

I read the first 60min are the best what happened to the Matrix since 1999…and the rest of the movie buries this all to the ground

I just had a look on IMDB and really see no spoilers in terms of the cast.

Chopra was officially revealed as Sati in interviews and on one of the posters.
Groff was revealed as Smith by literally having him yelling "Mr. Anderson" in Trailer 2.

On RT, the only thing I can possibly think of is
Yahya being both Morpheus & Smith. Which is not surprising tbh and is probably towards the beginning of the film only and probably some sort of red herring, disguise or a "role" he might be playing if we are considering the huge plot leak from the beginning of this year - which several people have confirmed to be true.

These are the only 3 potential spoilers that I think you might be referring to.

I have the first Matrix fresh in my mind but the sequels not so much. For anybody who’s seen it, is it necessary to watch them again?

If you've seen the trailers, you have probably noticed it follows straight after Revolutions (with the machines doing something to Neo's body).

The Merovingian is also in it (Reloaded/Revolutions) and Sati is also in it (Revolutions).

I'd strongly recommend seeing the sequels beforehand.

71% currently! That's actually even higher than I was expecting. Sounds like you just gotta know what you're getting into and prepare yourself for. Gonna watch this first thing tomorrow.

Thanks. I saw the trailer only once and the details flew over my head.

Whatever heated fan discourse that is coming aside and whatever I end up feeling about the film, it does my heart some good to see a Matrix sequel with a fresh score in the 70s in 2021 haha. Especially given the Wachowski post-Matrix track record. Not that I ever really cared what the Tomatometer said for a movie like this, but I do remember feeling kinda bummed with the state of the franchise after Revolutions. I came to love the film (or at least specific sections of the film), but it got SUCH a negative reaction, kind of fizzled at the box office, not to mention the film itself is fairly dark and doesn't exactly send you home on a high...there was just kind of an overall downer vibe there. I'm glad that this doesn't seem to be a repeat of that, at the very least.

I'm curious how this is going to do at the BO given the HBO Max release and Spidey owning cinemas at the moment, but I'm glad that it didn't get a really bad score that might further hurt its chances to perform.

It's reviewed pretty well for a movie that is apparently going to be super polarizing.

A previously mentioned polarizing film is 91% positive on RT. There's still hope, heh.

I was braced for much worse reviews if I'm honest. That is quite reassuring. I'm game for Wachowski weirdness, but will enjoy it more if there's less of the occasional Wachowski badness.

I wonder if they'll lean in on more body horror that the first film has.

Is that what you got from that? :funny:

The thing about TLJ, is I don't remember it getting the, "it will be polarizing" before it came out. It's like it setup different expectations for what that means.

The interesting thing about the truly wildly polarizing films is the way the polarize individuals as well, and you see people wrestling with their own feelings on it. Or how someone you might expect to love it doesn't and vice versa. I've already seen some a reaction from someone I expected to be more negative on it based that had a lot of positive things to say.

Well, thanks for the heads up as I won't be going on IMDb until I see the movie.

Yes it’s the last one. I didn’t know about it
