The Medical Field

I think I'm going to do very well, the only thing I have to worry about is learning all that anatomy. My professor said that I'll know more than a doctors worth.

I'll have to watch out for naughty clients as well! :O

I'm not naughty--I'm offended--I'm just in...pain. :(

Actually, I saw an add at the hospital last week (on of the RNs showed to me) for nurses to come out to Cali. all paid expenses, 2,000 dollar signing bonus, and up to 10,200-11,000 a week!
Whhhhaaa?!?

There has to be some catch right? Like that type of pay will only be for the first few months or something? I was hesitant about even thinking about nursing, being a male and all, but shiiit, with that type of pay I'm willing to throw that out the window.

No. No catch. The nurses here, in Detroit, that are agency (kinda like a union) make 85-95 K a year (just for having a RN license, NOT the BSN--these heifers make a little more), paid for apartment (really nice places), car, FREE benefits, 2500 (depending on what type of nurse you are) signing bonus, and a yearly bonus (I think it's 1000 dollars).

Damn man, that's crazy dough. I wonder what the requirements are to take up on that offer. I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I think to become an RN is 2 years of community college (I'm not sure if that's the accelerated program or not). To become a BSN is another 2 years, but that's it I think! There are Masters and Docterate programs, but those are for administrative goals. There is a HUGE nursing shortage, and those are some of the incentives to get people in the field.

Actually, I'm very excited and within a months time, I'm going to be conducting patient interviews and histories at the teaching hospital. I'm wicked excited actually! :D

Awesome! So during these interviews I imagine that you'll get to assess these people. If you do, tell me something: does your program still consider the Homan's Sign a good indicator for thrombus formation? I'm just curious because the Homan's Sign was drilled at us in school, but now since I work as a Nurse Extern at a local hospital and do assessments they don't consider it viable. Just curious.

Yup, Neurosurgery...

Ouch. That's a rough one. Good luck with that though.

I think if I ever went for a specialty I would have to go for cardiac. I always loved the heart for some reason.
