The Mighty No. 9 Thread

I, and others, have discussed zenith's...overzealous posting habits with him in the past, but he's never really listened. In general, I let it go and all, because he does post good news articles as well.

There’s A Mighty No. 9 Browser Game You Can Play For Free. September 7, 2015 . 12:30pm

All you have to do is instruct Beck when to jump as he faces off against a series of increasingly difficult bosses.

Neos Corporation and Yahoo Japan have launched a free browser game based on Mighty No. 9. You can play it right here. According to SankeiBiz, it has the approval of Mighty No. 9 developer Comcept.

It can be played with a mouse, a controller, and it should also work on a mobile device. All you have to do is instruct Beck when to jump as he faces off against a series of increasingly difficult bosses as he shoots automatically.

Why do you need to jump? Well, each boss has their ownunique projectile attack that you’ll have to dodge. As you progress, the jump needs to be more and more precise in order to avoid taking damage – you can only take three hits. Plus, some of the bosses float in the air, meaning you need to jump to hit them with Beck’s arm cannon.

While this browser game won’t make up for the recently announced delay for Mighty No. 9, it’s something, at least. Get what you can out of it.

Comcept Also Delays Mighty No. 9’s Trial Version. September 16, 2015 . 3:00pm

Comcept has delayed the arrival of Mighty No. 9’s trial version. It was meant as an apology to its backers for delaying the full game.

[YT]wy4NbaSYnDs[/YT]
Comcept has delayed the arrival of Mighty No. 9’s trial version due to a problem with the distribution method.

It was supposed to roll out on September 15th – the day the full game was initially supposed to be released – as a way to apologize to its Kickstarter backers for pushing back the game’s release date into 2016.

Before this delay, Comcept an email sent out to its backers that read (as revealed by NeoGAF user khaaan):
We are releasing an exclusive Trial Ver. for all of our Mighty No. 9 backers!!!
The team at comcept and all of our partners are currently working on solving the online issues with Mighty No. 9, however the single-player content is in a complete state. We would like our backers to have a chance to play the near-complete game, so we are releasing this Trial Ver. which has more volume and functionality compared to the original beta test we conducted. The release of this Trial Ver. is planned for September 15th, so make sure to clear your schedule! We will start sending out codes to our backers a few days earlier than the actual release. This Trial Ver. is planned to run for a full month after release, but will be taken down after that.
Then, on September 15th, an update on Comcept’s website announced the delay: “Finally, we know that all of our fans are looking forward to the Special Demo Version we are preparing, and we just ask that you be a little more patient. The team is working on it, but some issues popped up regarding the distribution method so there is a good chance it will not be ready to launch by the 15th. We are really sorry for the inconvenience.”

Despite these issues, some backers received the trial version early, around September 11th. You can see one of them playing it in the video at the top of this article. Hopefully, this trial version of Mighty No. 9 will roll out for the rest of the backers soon enough.

It's kind of amazing to me how so much optimism and excitement seemed to surround this project from the gaming community in the beginning, but with the weird second KS, the KS of a spin-off before the game released, the delay, and now the delay of the demo that was a gift because of the delay, it's like this project has become a joke upon itself or something. It is really, really bizarre to watch.

I hope it still turns out good, though.

I saw some gameplay footage a few months ago...and I'll admit..it looked rough. Like..okay they decided not to make it sprite based, or cell shaded, but with the graphics they have now, it does NOT reflect the art style of the concept art at all. In fact, the graphics look amateurish.

Created by Keiji Inafune and an all-star team of veteran devs, Mighty No. 9 is a challenging side-scrolling action game that transforms the feel of 8 and 16-bit classics, as players remember them, into a fresh modern-day classic.

In the year 20XX, breakthroughs in robotic technology have ushered in a new era of peace & prosperity. Violence is confined to the Battle Coliseum, where robot combatants face off in spectacular duels. Dr. White created 9 robot siblings known as the “Mighty Numbers”, who were the most popular and powerful team of robots in the Battle Coliseum and always in the top ranks. But, during one competition there was a cyber-attack, infecting them with a computer virus causing them to become crazed and rampant. You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by the mysterious computer virus that caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk.

Run, jump, blast and transform your way through 9 initial stages (plus 3 later stages) which you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies, in order to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and to confront the final evil that threatens the planet!

Keiji Inafune Considers amiibo Compatibility An “Option” For Mighty No. 9. November 11, 2015 . 10:00am

Keiji Inafune is open to the idea of the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U versions of Mighty No. 9 supporting amiibo.

USGamer recently had the opportunity to interview Keiji Inafune, the creator of Mighty No. 9 and brought up the possibility of the Mega Man spiritual successor supporting amiibo. Inafune responded positively to the idea of the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U versions of the game offering compatibility with the NFC figures, but didn’t confirm anything.

Inafune’s exact response to Jeremy Parish is as follows.
“That’s definitely an option for us, and if we have the opportunity to do it, then we’ll definitely take the chance. And also, we know for a fact a lot of our backers are Nintendo fans, because we ran a platform survey [for Mighty No. 9], and we see how many people are choosing Nintendo hardware. So it’s definitely something we have to look into. “
If Comcept and Inti Creates make Mighty No. 9 amiibo compatible, it will become the second third party game to support the NFC figures. The first is Shovel Knight, which will be receiving its own amiibo of its lead character soon.

Mighty No. 9 will come to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC on February 9, 2016 in North America and February 12, 2016 in Europe. It will also be released on the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita eventually as well.

I wonder when they are going to delay it again.

I played a bit of the game... it's good. Controls are responsive and it feels like Mega man without being Mega Man.

Keiji Inafune Talks Mighty No. 9 Development, Mega Man Differences, Sequel. December 19, 2015 . 2:00am

Keiji Inafune of Comcept recently shared details on Mighty No. 9,
along with his thoughts on comparisons with Mega Man, a sequel,
and the Japanese games industry.

Mega Man
and Mighty No. 9 creator Keiji Inafune of Comcept recently shared some information in an interview with Kinda Funny Games on Mighty No. 9’s development, along with his thoughts on its differences with Mega Man, a sequel, and the Japanese games industry. [Thank, Game Jouhou.]

[YT]F_CZSnzEY78[/YT]

During the interview, Keiji Inafune shares some thoughts on the criticism behind Mighty No. 9’s delay, along with some of the ideas behind its development. He also talks a bit about what he sees differently in Mighty No. 9 compared to the Mega Man games that made him famous.

He then talks about making Mighty No. 9 into a franchise or series. Inafune explains that if he were still working for Capcom or any other big company, he wouldn’t be able to talk about it, but since he’s part of an indie company, and it’s his own IP, he can say that they’re already thinking about a sequel.

The director of Mighty No. 9 is already writing some of the scripts and gathering some ideas for the sequel. While they don’t know when yet, they say that there will definitely be a sequel.

Inafune then talks about his thoughts on the Japanese gaming industry, as he was previously pretty critical of it in the past, and is asked if his thoughts of changed on the matter. According to the Mega Man creator, he feels that Japanese developers must take on bigger challenges, but it requires courage. He feels that the challenge of “go big or go home” isn’t exactly quite there in Japan, and reiterates that it’s what needs the courage.

Mighty No. 9 will release in North America on February 9th, 2016, and around the world on February 12, 2016 for PlayStation4, PlayStation3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC.

At this point they might as well rename the game to Mighty No. 9 Forever.

So they're having problems on the online portion that no one asked for.
Man, I just want the damn game. What a bummer.

Yeah, I really don't get it? I think the vast majority of people were wanting another MM style game, which has nothing to do with online co-op. Hell, they should've released the game, and added on the online co-op in a "free DLC" patch.

I wasn't even aware there was an online aspect until they stated that as the reason for the latest delay.
