Dodgers have a huge 4 games series with the D-backs coming up. The Dodgers could basically put the race away or the D-backs could make a big run for 1st place. I never thought they could catch the Dodgers, but injuries played a role in that. I'm so impressed by Az's manager. This guy is the real deal.......he always has his team ready to go.

Watched the Dodgers/D-backs opening game last night. What a weird game.....the Dodgers won in a squeaker 10-9 after being up 10-5 in the bottom of the ninth. Dave Roberts managed the bullpen horribly in the 7th-9th innings and seemed to be trying to give the game away. I'm really not impressed with that guy. The players seem to love him, but he's not really a favorite of mine.

Still, AZ is now in a position where they have to sweep the rest of the 4 game series if they want to make up any ground on the Dodgers. If the Dodgers win even one of the three games left, the D-backs are back to where they started with four less games to the end of the season and no more head to head matchups. This is/was their opportunity to really put some pressure on the Dodgers, but instead they've put it back in their dugout.

The White Sox have achieved a franchise worse by losing 108 games in the regular season. It is now very likely that the White Sox will outdo the 1962 Mets.

While the Cubs did blow a lead late to the Pirates which was very disappointing.
I'm very happy the Cubs could be playing their best Baseball in the second half, and they have a realistic chance of making the Playoffs as a Wild Card.
A total of 99 runs were scored by the Cubs for 10 games prior to September 2, 2024, which hadn't been done since 1900.

Well, the Dodgers sewed up their division as far as the D-backs go. They have a 6 game lead and no games left with the D-backs after winning the series in AZ 3-1. They also own the tie-breaker so it's essentially a 7 game lead. The Padres are 5 back and have a chance if they get really hot. They also have a series with the Dodgers late in the season. The Dodgers also have 3 tough series coming up against the Guardians, Braves, and Cubs.

When people look at the Dodgers, I don't think they quite get how good this team is (they better be good because of all the money they spent in the offseason LOL). They currently have the best record in the MLB with their top 2 starters on the IL. I think there are few teams "ever" that could pull that off. They are scheduled to get them (Glasnow and Yamamoto) back around mid-September and have been getting by with their 3 and 4 starters (Stone and Flaherty) serving as their 1 2 starters. With Will Smith coming around, the top 5 in their batting order are just murder and they're solid 6-9 with a lot of depth.

If someone had told me at the start of the season that, with just over 20 games left, that the Atlanta Braves would be in danger of missing the playoffs, I would have laughed in their face.

Right now, they are behind both the D-backs and the Padres and only 1/2 game ahead of the Mets for the wildcard spots. @Ghostrider87 evidently saw something in the Mets that I didn't. They've got the talent, but looked like a mess. Now? Not so much and I don't think he'd find it surprising if the Mets overtook the Braves.

Also, WRT the Dodgers, it looks like Bobby Miller and Walker Buehler \ might be starting to find their grove on the mound. IF that happens, look the EF out. A pitching lineup with a healthy Glasnow and Yamamoto with Gavin Stone, Jack Flaherty, and a resurgent Buehler and Miller would be as strong as a 5/6 deep rotation as you'll see; and that's without Clayton Kershaw. It's rare to see this kind of depth. If they get healthy, the Dodgers are gonna be a problem. Hell, they're a problem now. Tthink about next year......Ohtani will be back on the mound......

True. The Braves and Dodgers both have had more than their share.....Mets do have some talent and when I've watched them lately, they look like a team that's jelled. Sometimes it's your year and sometimes it ain't. Braves have so much talent though, it's inconceivable that they could miss the playoffs.

Miller, who I thought was getting on track, got BOMBED tonight, so what the hell do I know? The kid has talent though and could still be a very good pitcher.

And now, the Dodgers lost Gavin Stone to injury. He was considered their 3 or 4 starter coming into the season, but has been their number one since Glasnow and Yamamoto went down. He was 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA. So, this year, the Dodgers have lost their top 4 starters.

The Cubs have a realistic chance of finishing with a winning record, however, it would be bittersweet if they miss the playoffs again because unable to win critical games in September to make the playoffs as a Wild Card.

The White Sox continue to move closer to losing more than 120 games in a regular season so I assume vast White Sox fans have begun to have some fun by predicting when exactly they'll lose the 120th game and 121 game.

I actually came on here to comment on the White Sox and look what I found! So, there's an old rule of thumb in baseball. No matter how good your team is, you will lose 1/3 of your games and, unless you were the old Mets, no matter how bad you are, you will win 1/3 of your games. The Sox are either disproving that axiom or we will just add the 2024 White Sox to the Mets on the disclaimer.

There's been some discussion about that down here in LA. Ohtani said he'd be open to it depending on how his throwing goes. Here's the deal with the Dodgers. They are thin on pitching because their 1-4 starters went down this year. Walker has shown signs of spotting his pitches and is throwing around 96. Flaherty has been solid. Miller, for all his talent, has sucked. Stone was solid until he went down. Yamamoto is back. Knack, despite a bad outing, can help. I don't think you can count on Kershaw to help because of a toe injury.

"IF" Ohtani could get into throwing shape, you would expect his O production to waver (but over a short time, who know?), but a healthy Ohtani on the mound would be a huge boost.

I think Walker is the key. Ohtani, would be a monstrous plus.

Of course, every time I say something, it's usually wrong, so don't believe me.

FYI....It goes without saying that Ohtani has been an absolute beast this year as a DH. He's pretty much a lock for 50/50 (HR/SB) unless he goes entirely south. He has bad at bats, but if you make a mistake to him, break out your credit card cause you're gonna pay.
