The MMA Thread

This fight reminded me of the early days of UFC when no one knew what they were doing in the ring.

HAHA! True that. And this was a karate dude taking out a brawler.

That fight was so phony. That dude hit Kimbo in the chin, Kimbo let go of his own body and just fail to the ground like he dropped dead, He was on his hands and knees not defending himself while that Rocky guy was barely hitting him. EliteXC is another WWE.

his name wasn't Rocky....the commentators were just using 'Rocky' as an analogy.....his name is Seth...

EliteXC will probably put their hype machine around Gina Carano, and if he signs, Tito Ortiz.

Which was absolutelly innapropriate...

Kimbo has done absolutelly nothing in his career, has zero accomplishments...while Seth has faught in K-1,UFC,has a very decent record etc...

Appollo Creed was the world's greatest boxer in the movie...and Rocky a total underdog...Kimbo is not in the Top 30 Heavyweights in the world and as shown yesterday Seth is by far a more accomplished fighter...so the whole ''ROCKY IS HERE'' ''MOST AMAZING UPSET EVER'' and the other juvenile crap the commentators were throwing at the inexperienced CBS crowd who bought the whole Kimbo is a great fighter nonsense,is just hillarious for any hardcore MMA fan.

Kimbo was/is/will always be a hack. He is completely one dimensional and too old to learn new tricks. If EliteXC has any sense, which I doubt they do, they'll never run him out there again. The only people that like him and think he's all that, are the people that couldn't understand mma or what it takes and only like to see freaks of nature go at it. This isn't WWE/TNA or some **** like that. Plus while Seth is a good fighter, he isn't even close to be a top fighter and he completely dismantled him with one sloppy front kick and nothing more then a flurry. Not to mention the fact that should have been his second loss.

Well she deserves more than Kimbo, since she actually has, you know, TALENT.

That pink hair dude probably barely hit'em in the chin. I wonder how much Kimbo got paid to take a dive.

Agreed! I think his post fight interview says it all. He didn't seem to care that he lost.
I still say dude was high though.

Why would the golden boy take a dive? He sucks and has no chin, simple as that.

Agreed on both...in one of his street fights,he fights a bigger, fat black dude who drops him with a jab too but then Kimbo bullrushes him and starts hitting him while the other guy's on the ground....his chin is that bad,it's not a gimmick.

The good thing about Kimbo is that he lost from a guy like Seth before throwing him to the sharks...imagine the consequences if that was Arlovski or God forbids,Fedor.

LOL at the people who think this is the end of kimbo slice. He is the main carrier of ratings for EliteXC and in a month, this dude who beat him, though good, is no kimbo. :o

And.....the only reason he pulls ratings is due to smart marketing. Other than that he is nothing special in the world of MMA. As we saw last night, sure he caught him and anyone can be caught, but if that guy fights Coture, Evans, fedor or any MMA fighter that is actually very good, that does not happen.

Kimbo is so incredibly overrated it's ridiculous.

He doesn't have a chin either. But I get your point.

So I wonder if they try to set up the Shamrock vs. Kimbo fight again?

CBS is stupid. How is that a Rocky moment? A Rocky moment would be if the guy that beat Kimbo, Seth Petruzzi (who was an epic failure in season two of The Ultimate Fighter) defeated Fedor.

Meanwhile, Arlovski and Carano looked impressive.

What are you talking about? He kicked Kimbo's hobo ass six ways from Sunday, lol. :woot:

Yes he did....but no one cares about the guy....he isn't as good a story as Kimbo....

-- Mixed martial arts free agent Tito Ortiz recently told MMAJunkie.com that he is going under the knife. “I’m getting surgery … for my lower back,” Ortiz told MMAJunkie.com. “I’ve had a problem for the last five years, so I’m finally going to get the surgery done. I’ll be out for about six months, but I’ll be back to fight for another six years. I’m really excited.”

Ortiz went into further detail about the procedure, and how he expects for the surgery to help bring him back to his old championship form. “I have a bulging disc between L4 and L5 and S1, so they’ve got to go in and fuse it,” Ortiz stated. “(It’s) the same thing that Nate Quarry got. So I get it done, and I’ll be able to wrestle the way I used to wrestle.”

Assuming that his surgery goes successfully, Ortiz will be out of action for at least six months, however that doesn’t mean that a deal can’t be made for his services before then. In fact, Ortiz stated that he is in serious talks with EliteXC and something could be finalized within the month. “With EliteXC and CBS and Showtime backing me on this, it’s a possibility that we might get something finished before the month’s over,” Ortiz said. “And the UFC actually has the option to match [any offer]. If they match it, fighters are going to be even more happy because I’ll do it with the UFC. But if I don’t do it with the UFC, I’ll do it with EliteXC and CBS.”

-- According to TVByTheNumbers.com, Elite XC drew 4.38 million viewers last night — an increase of nearly 1.5 million from “Unfinished Business” in July. This number is a lot better than their prior show back in July, which was considered a major disappointment. Here's the ratings history of EliteXC's live events on CBS:

May 31 - “Saturday Night Fights”: 1.9/6 share (4 million viewers)
July 26 - “Unfinished Business”: 1.0/3 share (2.62 million viewers)
October - 4 “Heat”: 1.8/6 share (4.38 million viewers)

The success of "Heat" should be enough for CBS to air a fourth event in 2009. On a sour note, all three of EliteXC's live events on CBS were beat out by “America’s Most Wanted” (FOX) in the 18-49 demographic.

Although CBS and EliteXC still believe Slice will attract fans despite his loss, UFC's White believes that EliteXC has bigger issues.

In a radio interview Monday, Petruzelli hinted he'd been instructed not to take the fight to the ground. He has since gone back on his statements. EliteXC said although Petruzelli was offered a knockout bonus, the organization never tried to dictate the style of fight.

The Florida State Boxing Commission is investigating the matter.

"We said it didn't happen, Seth said it didn't happen, that should've been the end of the story," Lappen said. "When they do all their investigation then hopefully we can put this thing to rest finally."

Kahl rejected the notion of any impropriety and said he has full confidence the commission will not find any wrongdoing.
