What makes you think that every disguise circumstance involves a literal foot chase, where the only priority is how many seconds a change takes?
Even if it's not you can't deny the advantage what I was giving as an example of as compared to real hair.
Then there's the whole part of espionage which is about blending in. Tasha arrives at a hotel with her flaming long red hair. She goes on her mission. As most pots aren't about missions that go off without a hitch let's say she gets seen in some way or captured on film at least enough to be ID'd by that distinctive long mane of red hair. Now she's got to leave the country. You know what the authorities are gonna do first after they get a description? Spread that description around to law enforcement who then goes to places like hotels. Now let's say she arrrives at the hotel not with noticeable long red hair or red hair at all but a nice black page boy wig. She goes on her mission sans the wig with her short red hair. She gets seen or caught on camera. The authorities check the hotels etc. No woman fitting that description arrived recently.
On a mission that requires going unnoticed with seconds counting she wouldn't have the luxury of time for some elaborate hair style or to do a dye job or the like.
This doesn't even get into how fierce looking long hair is going to be detrimental in a fight. Unless Tasha putts her long hair in some kind of elaborate braid deal or... cornrows or something like you see a female UFC fighter it really does make more sense to sport the shorter hair.
LookI get it... Dude like chicks with long hair and I also get that I'm being the ruddy daddy bringing up "realism" in a CBM. I am aware of how A. They would like the character that is known in comics as looking like a sexbomb who is played by one of the most lusted after actresses in the world to fulfill that sexy fantasy aspect of the character and that B. This isn't supposed to reflect real world spycraft since it's the environment of the MCU with all kinds of outlandish conceits so why not just roll with something else that's patently unrealistic? I mean it's not a deal breaker at this point is it?
I get all that.
But ya'know, some real world considerations fit THIS character in live action more than a lot of other female lead comic book characters. Let Wonder Woman have her long hair and do the Barbie doll thing with various hair do's in a movie that are gorgeous and obviously done with the help of a stylist. God level super strength covers up a multitude of sins in a tough situation. Tasha's history that we have seen slices of indicates a very ruthless training at the Russian Red Room. She had to kill her fellow inductees and then the Russkies even had her sterilized. The background is already more dark and in its way grounded than say Wasp or Gamora's is in the MCU. Tasha isn't a god or a cyborg. Her big out there advantage is a knock off Super Soldier Serum derivative and we can't be sure even that is so yet in the MCU. She is at a deficit in comparison, on paper anyway, to some other powered heroines. So in presenting her give her the advantage of being the ultimate femme fatale spy who actually would take into consideration some ruthlessly practical tactics without a care about aesthetics. She's the pros pro. I mean you can get away with many things in a comic you can't in live action and still have the audience believing what's going on the screen unless you are doing something like a Fast And Furious film where we all made the deal when we bought the ticket that we won't care if it's incredibly dumb or not, hell we are going BECAUSE it's dumb so practical considerations went out the window from the first second of screen time.
I think for this character, sure there will be tons of over the top stunts and wild visual flourishes as befits her role in this world as a Bondian "Super Spy". But there is also a side where it not only fits her to be ruthlessly practical, like sporting shorter hair on a mission but that helps to sell certain parts of the drama of her origin as silly as that might sound. She's the character in the MCU films so far with the most baggage and darkness in her past out of the heroic cast of characters. She talks about red in her ledger and was confronted about being a cold blooded murderer. I think being at least partially set in those days that the master spy/assassin part should be out front and showing her not traipsing around with luscious red locks for everyone to see as well as making the audience perhaps go "Why hasn't she been caught yet exactly? Look for the red headed walking L'Oréal ad. She's easy to spot" can only benefit the movie.
And yes, I know... That's WAY too much thought put into ScarJo's hair in an MCU movie that given the track record more likely than not won't even touch the level of depth or practical considerations I think this character probably deserves given her origin.
