After breaking out my N64 for a good night of game playing (The Video Island near me is closing and you know what that means...EVERYTHING MUST GO, buy 2 get one free, all this for under 10!) I have decided to devote this thread to the greatest game system of my young childhood. For anyone who remembers waking up at 7 in the morning and running downstairs to play Mario Kart 64, this is for you!!!

Late nights playing Goldeneye deathmatch and spending all Thanksgiving break playing Ocarina of Time. Good times good times.

Ocarina of Time, I rememeber I never actually owned that game but I remember going over friends houses and having a blast with it! Anybody remember Snow Board kids 2? That was a fun game

Bought an N64 a few months back during a carboot. Fancied owning the system again.
Recently purchased Banjo Kazooie again, and I friggin love that game. Thing is, I have my VC now on the Wii...and instead of buying the old cartridges, I just download em for my Wii.

That's a good idea! Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 are the same game!

WCW/NWO Revenge, putting in a 40 man rumble, knock out only with four of us going....those matches took at least four hours to complete....gotta love it.

Goldeneye tournament in college. 2 man teams, 5 bucks per team, 16 teams total. The winning team split the winnings.

That 40 bucks helped out for laundry like crazy

I just bought Pokemon Snap for 99 cents at a new game store a while ago, very fun stuff. Sequel Dammit!! :cmad:

I never did get Pokemon Snap, hopefully it comes out on the Virtual Console soon.

Loved playing Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 64, still pull both of them out every once in a while. And Super Mario 64 and DK64 were also great games that I spent hours trying to beat.

Oh yeah, I so know what you mean. With Donkey Kong's non-existant bird in his non-existant backpack.

Damn you Rare, damn you!

I was in EB and saw WWF No Mercy for around $15, probably the number game I rented in the N64 days, it was incredibly fun. I was there two weeks ago and it was bought. Should've bought it. Everyone was always pissed off after going on a roll with a character only to be eliminated in a fluke manner in the Rumble.

A friend had a birthday party/sleepover with two TVs in the basement and two N64s going. Four of us stayed up, we never went to sleep I don't know what time we stopped playing, early morning after 7 but it was the first time I had been awake for more than 24 hours. Basically it was two teams in Facility, fighting over who could control the washroom area the longest with different weapons. Insane.

Then multiplayer was perfected in Perfect Dark. Every so often I pull that game out and play multi, I'm at the 4th ranking right now.

Perfect Dark was great, Goldeneye, i mean. what cant be said about this console. Blitz, OoT, Super Mario 64, Smash, the list goes on and on!!!

my favorites were super mario 64, killer instinct, mario kart, golden eye, pokemon snap and super smash brothers.

2. Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time

Oh yeah, Shadows of the Empire....I loved that Game....I played the Speeder Level over and over and over and over....I loved taking down the AT ATs.....Yeah.....and shooting storm troopers...and Fighting Boba Fett.......God I loved that game.

Nostolgia rules all. May not be the best system, but it is easily my favorite. **** Playstation 1. ;)

I still remember playing obsessively with my friends Goldeneye for hours on end. As we did Super Smash Bros. and to a lesser extent Diddy Kong Racing and Perfect Dark. So many perfect games that were pure fan. I still remember losing 4 months of my life immersed into Ocarina of Time as my first game of that scale.

Anyway my list:

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, BEST GAME EVER...period.
2. Super Mario 64 (best platformer and launch game, ever)
3. Goldeneye 64
4. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
5. Super Smash Bros.
6. 1080 Snowboarding
7. Resident Evil 2 (better than the PS1 version as it had no load time, no multiple discs and allowed analog movement which was much more freeing and the only RE game version to do this until RE4 on Gamecube)
8. Spider-Man
9. Shadows of the Empire
10. Rogue Squadron
11. Jet Force Gemeni
12. Perfect Dark
13. Mission: Impossible (NOSTOLGIA DAMMIT!)
14. Banjo-Kazooi
15. Diddy Kong Racing
16. Banjo-Tazooi
17. The World is Not Enough (again nostolgia)
18. Donkey Kong 64
19. Mario Kart 64 (because of Diddy Kong I didn't play this until after N64's prime and PS2 and Gamecube had entered the fray, unfortunately. No nostolgia to help)
20. WCW/NWO: Revenge/WWF: Wrestlmania 2000 (the ONLY two good wrestling games ever).
21. Tony Hawk Pro Skater

Aw, the memories. I may just go plug mine in right now. ;)

Aw, I forgot Konker and Star Fox 64 too...

Whoa, whoa whoa.....I'm sorry, but Goldeneye is a game I sorely miss. #1.

What is your list?

Goldeneye is the most fun I've ever had with a shooter. The most fun I've had multiplayer save for the Smash Bros series. It for its time blows away the feeling I get when I play Halo or my shooter of choice now, Call of Duty.

But you really can't revisit it now except for nostolgia purposes. It is a great game but playing it you go "I want a second stick! I want to jump! I want AI who aren't as dumb as hore****!" and in multiplayer the same fun just isn't there unless it's crazy paintball mode/DK mode shtick.

You can still be blown away by Mario 64 and OOT now. The graphics are dated and tehcnically everything OOT did was one uped in TP and that dates it, but OOT is more epic and still more fun to play. As is Mario 64. Kind of like returning to the Super Mario games of 2D is easier than Sonic. There is just more there to revisit.

But different tastaes for different people though.

That's the thing about Super Mario 64 that makes it great. The control is so intuitive. You can pick the game up after not playing it for years and still be able to make Mario do anything you want. Great controls =:up: from me.

Actually I never got into the N64 when it came out...so right now I am getting to play many games I never have before...I just hope that they start doing the N64 games more regularly on the VC.

Ones that I did play (and loved)

Mario 64
Star Fox 64
Zelda 64
Goldeneye

Yup, that about covers my experience with the system. I was still enjoying my SNES when the N64 came out, and then i moved on to the Playstation.

Right now I can't wait to download Paper Mario to see if it lives up to it's spiritual predecessor.:yay:

Get Majora's Mask as soon as possible.

Same here.

I was in college when the N64 and PS1 were in their heyday. I considered laundry money, Ramen noodles, and keeping my computer working so I could get my papers done more important that getting a video game system. Besides, since my roommate had a game system, I didn't see the hurry to get one.:woot:

But I'm catching up on the games and they're good.

Thank you Project 64:woot:

Pokemon stadium came out and I remember it was the new craze! Everyone had it and it was how we made our money for comics and bets! We brought our best line ups on that poke ball labelled field. I miss those days! Right now my friend and I are going through the old 64 games we never beat and attempting to beat them. We beat Donkey Kong 64 and put in Banjo Twooie after about two mins of playing Banjo Twooie we realized that they are basically the same game (Green little goblins= Beavers, Tunnel with little light= warp pad, hell warp pad= warp pad, Jiggies= Bananas, both villains have a laser that comes out of the lair!) and figured that beating Donkey Kong 64 basically counts for both
