The Neon Demon

Bleaker than Ryan Gosling ****ing ripping his mother's intestines out?

Uh, yes. But I was also talking about the cop chopping his arms etc. :woot:

The rest of the film is fun and I'm sure it will be a spectacle of cinematography.

Refn's "Neon Demon" To Shoot At 60FPS?

By Garth Franklin Sunday May 17th 2015 07:52AM
Several years ago Peter Jackson attempted to test public reaction to higher frame rates with special screenings of the first "The Hobbit" film. Running at a higher 48 frames-per-second as compared to the usual 24, the effect solved some of the problems of 3D but resulted in a VERY mixed reaction from audiences.
Outside of Jackson's trilogy though, not many other filmmakers have dared to try it. James Cameron intends to use 48FPS for the "Avatar" sequels, whilst Ang Lee is currently filming his drama "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" which will run at a whopping 120FPS.
Now, "Drive" and "Only God Forgives" filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn is having a go with word that his new film "The Neon Demon" will be at least partly shot at 60FPS. The news comes from a photo that landed on Instagram this week (via Final Reel):
Natasha Braier ("The Rover") serves as cinematographer on the horror film which has already wrapped filming and is set in the world of L.A. modeling. Elle Fanning and Jena Malone star in the film which will score a release sometime in 2016.

Really hope this ends up more like Drive than Only God Forgives. I want Refn back on top.

Drive is the outlier compared to most of his films. As obtuse as Only God Forgives could sometimes be, its much more in line with things like Valhalla Rising.

Drive was his best.

I rank his films:

1. Drive 10/10
2. Bronson 8/10
3. Pusher Trilogy 8/10
4. Valhalla Rising 7/10
5. Only God Forgives 7/10
6. Bleeder 7/10
7. Fear X 7/10

He definitely has another Drive in him. I always tell people there was a great film buried inside Only God Forgives.

Abbey Lee and Bella Heathcote on set.

Though I wasn't much for Only God Forgives, I can respect it. It very much felt like it was exactly the film he wanted to make. So much of it felt like a contrarian response to how popular Drive became.

Only God Forgives had problems, but it was probably his most beautiful film so far. Some of the scenes were breathtakingly gorgeous, and Refn knows his way around setting up amazing-looking shots. I just hope we get something closer to Drive this time.

A lot of people saw OGF as their second Refn movie ever and hadn't seen movies like Valhalla Rising before, hence i can understand the frusfration and anger because they we're experiecing something so different and they audience had set a too high benchmark for themselves, hoping for a Drive 2.0

But yeah i am so hyped for this movie, for lovers and haters of OGF you can always check out "my life directed by nicolas winding refn" which is a documentary about Refn family shot by the wife during their filming of OGF.

I bought that documentary on DVD a while ago and still haven't watched it yet. I'll need to get on it asap.

I really like Refn, though Only God Forgives wasn't the revelation I was hoping for. Bronson, Valhalla Rising and Drive were all really spectacular, though I'm hoping Neon Demon is a little more Drive than the others.

I am happy to announce that production on THE NEON DEMON has come to an end. #theneondemon

Can't wait for this! :mrk:

Christina Hendricks' role in the film.

What about The Neon Demon?

I actually just went in and did a little guest part for one day because the director, Nick Winding Refn, is a good friend of mine, and we’d worked together before. So he asked if I would essentially come in and do a bit of a cameo. So I’m playing the head of a modeling agency, and I introduced Elle (Fanning)’s character to the world of modeling and fashion.

You didn't put that down he might put in Driver or Mads' character from Vanhilla Rising as the lead character.

I've created a thread for it now anyway.

Loved Drive. Need to see Only God Forgives. I'll keep my eye out for this one.
