the new - improved - most cliché/unrealistic things done in movies thread

Nothing like a realistic 20 minute sex scene to keep the pace of a movie going!

I know it´s done for pace reasons, but the point of the thread is unrealistic things, and it is unrealistic. There are ways, however, to indicate some time has passed, like fades and stuff, the two minutes thing is often done for racy, wild sex scenes.

Go outside your comfort zone then man! Thankfully my "type" has always been the carefree adventurous kind who seem primed to destroy pretty much anything. Only when I've gone and done something I'm not normally into(like a ****ty blonde who talked a good story) did I get a boring rag doll who just layed there. I've never been to Brazil sadly, but if it's anything like up in the northern US, try to bag tiny brunettes that are clearly very sexual but have been holding back and watch the magic HAPPEN. For me at least, it's always been the types of girls that command lots of attention and get stalked by wierdos and *****ebags, but never really let any of them score. They should have at least three or four "best friends" that are guys that have been desperately trying to get in her pants for years, and probably think they are in love.

Also, while it could be extremely trying for a relationship- a girl with bipolar disorder(actually being diagnosed bipolar, not just being a *****) is basically gaurenteed wild and violent sex.

I´ve been with a couple bipolar girls. I´m not saying it´s never been intense, just not clothes/furniture-destructive intense, but there has been pinning to the wall, slapping, biting, her asking to be called a ****e, etc.

In action movies when one character is dangling and the only thing keeping them from falling is another character desperately holding on to them one handed/one armed. In real life the human body is not designed for something like this, no matter how big or how strong the person doing the holding may be, this more than likely would lead to getting you arm pulled out of its socket.

And that little tidbit I learned from listening to Joel Schumacher's audio commentary on "Batman Forever".

I agree with the girl and boy in bed, but the girl pulls the blanket over her body

Love interests for the sake of love interests.
Alot of movies like Kick Ass would be all the better without them.

my main problem with kick ass was that they turned the love intrest into just that. in the comic it ends completely different in that respect.

Yeah, in the graphic novel the girl´s reaction to finding out the truth is a lot more realistic.

The magical universal translator that works in period films will usually give non-English speaking people slightly British accents, if they are from ancient Greece, ancient Rome, France, Germany or eastern Europe. If the non-English speaker is from Asia, Spain or South America, they will instead speak in the heavily accented English that corresponds to where the movie is set.

Women are never unattractive. Ever. Unless there is something wrong with them (evil, annoying, comic relief etc)

A guy who knows kung fu knocks out a man-mountain who looks almost twice his size with a couple quick blows. In real life, if a guy is considerably bigger and stronger than you, RUN!

That's not really that unrealistic, skill does make up for size difference. Provided the larger person is unskilled.

What I've noticed from Easy A and other teen comedies. Even Beastly:

The dorkiest/ugly girl who doesn't noticed in high school is actually ten times hotter than the 'hot' chicks in the film. It's like a weird fantasy high school.

That's because women aren't allowed to be unattractive.

I had an argument with friends about that the other day, they insisted that if a guy is much bigger, martial arts skill doesn´t really make that much difference. Do you know of any actual examples, like, a Youtube video of someone beating a bigger guy with martial arts?

It's just simple logic. This isn't a game of Top Trumps, if you get in the most effective hits, you win the fight. I'm not saying the trained guy will beat the big guy every time, but if there's one guy that knows how to fight and the other doesn't, my money's on the trained guy.

I tend to let this one slide because you know, sometimes, the women really do get cold.

based on your post, I'm guessing your dealings with all these arrogant, lazy bigots ended with you in the back of their cruisers? Seems to me you just have a grudge.

I've lived in small towns the majority of my life. I would never consider any of the cops I've run into to be any of the adjectives you threw out. Yeah, a lot of cops can be grumpy/jerks based on the logic thebum posted; but to say "that's pretty accurate" is absolutely NOT accurate, and more ignorant and judgmental than anything else.

In movies and tv, people are polite and don't drop any eaves. :o

Actually no... quite the opposite since you ask. I was referring to times when I had to report incidents to police, and they proceeded to sit on their asses and do jack sh** about it. So perhaps I was wrong to generalize and act as though ALL small town cops are arrogant hicks. But certainly SOME of them are, and so to portray them that way on film isn't necessarily wrong.

As for thebumwhowanks, he babbles on about how much crap cops put with day-in and day-out... tough sh**. I'm not going to try and compare my job (or any of the jobs I've had) to being a cop, but you have to take crap from people in pretty much any line of work. And if you want to piss and moan about how unfair it is, then don't become a cop. No one is forced into joining the police. So if you're a cop and I come to you with a legitimate problem, and you treat me like prick and don't do sh** about it, then I have every right to show you the same disrespect you are showing me.
