Now that the hype of QoS is over with, i'd figure we could have a new thread for the 23rd installment of the Bond franchise. The latest reports suggest script work is starting this month with Moneypenny and Q set return.

What Craig had to say:

As for Bond 23, seemingly anything is possible now that the Royale-Quantum storyline has seemingly come to a close.

‘I love the idea of putting Moneypenny in the film,’ he said. ‘I’m dead keen to do it. And Q.’ However, Craig stressed that there needed to be some characterization to these two MI6 favourites. He said: ‘I work from the premise that there are millions and millions of people out there who never saw one of the earlier Bond movies. So they don’t understand the martini gag. Or the Moneypenny gag, which is a gag—it had ceased to be a character. So, let’s find out who she is. We can have fun doing that. And, don’t get me wrong, I’m up for a submarine base, as long as the gag works. The problem is that Austin Powers screwed everything up. He exploded the genre. Did I just say that? I did.’

According to producer Michael G. Wilson, preliminary script work is scheduled to commence this month, so keep your eyes on CommanderBond.net for all the latest Bond 23 coverage as it becomes available.

If the same people that did the script for CR are doing it, I'm not too worried about characterization or anything.

More interested to see who'll be getting the Directorial nod.

Interesting that they think the Royale/Solace storyline is over, when Barbara Brocolli said this a few months ago:

Producer Barbara Broccoli has hinted that the next James Bond movie will complete a Daniel Craig trilogy.

Speaking to Coming Soon, Broccoli said that the 23rd Bond instalment is likely to finish the story started in Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace.

She said: "Hopefully at the end of Quantum Of Solace, we have this 'whole' character. And now we can do what we want.

"I think in some way, he will go after the [Quantum] organisation. So in that sense, it may become a trilogy, but we haven't really structured it that way."

Broccoli noted that the next Bond movie will contain one of the hallmarks of the franchise's earlier films.

"The trouble is, everyone has gadgets," she commented. "We will need to come up with a few that have not been invented by the Sony Corp!"

Craig later stated they'd focus on the Quantum organization later on though.

My interest is more in the "whole character" aspect. I think they mean they're trying to shift Craig's personality to be a bit more suave, or atleast tactful.

I'd love to see Steve McQueen (the director of Hunger, not the legend) directing a Bond-film.

I think Edward Zwick (Blood Diamond, Last Samurai, Defiance) could do a good job, but I'd really love to see an A-lister get a shot. I know some people might think its blasphemous, but a Spielberg or Tarantino Bond would be something special imo.

Both have expressed interest in the past, but I'm guessing its mainly an issue of the directors wanting too much power/money?

I think Zwick is an excellent choice.

Wow, quite an interesting choice. I've seen Hunger, and McQueen is obviously very talented, he really lets the visuals tell the story, something the great Alfred Hitchcock used to call Pure Cinema. It would be very interesting to see a Bond movie made that way...

...but in all reality.....It won't ever happen.

There have been rumblings that the next film might involve Bond in New York City. I could see this possibly getting the Broccolis to consider an American director.

And my pick (if that's the case)? Steven Soderbergh.

2010 is the targeted release date, yes?

They can kill two birds with one stone. Get more kids into the theatre, get an American director, and set it in New York.

JAMES BOND AND THE GIANT PEACH.

Michael Wilson said it'll probably be a 2011 release. But knowing their history of churning out a film every 2 years (especially once they find an actor whose "clicked" with the movie-going public as Bond), I don't buy it.

I think we'll see the next one out by November/December 2010.

Zwick is a great choice. But call it obvious, Nolan could do a great Bond film. Especially how these films are going and with Craig's Bond. And we all know how Nolan always wanted to do a Bond film. But Zwick is cool too.

The same ppl that wrote the screenplay for CR wrote QoS and we see how that turned out. The difference is they 'rushed' the QoS script to beat the pending writers strike deadline. With Bond 23 they just need to take their time, or get a different writing team altogether.

I still wanna see it in 2010--no later than that, please

HA, they blamed Mike Myers and Sony for some difficulty in making the next Bond movie!

I would love to see Zwick direct. Defiance looks great.

Can't wait to see who's gonna direct this one.

It seems to me that Craig likes to say seemingly

When it comes to Q, I hope they give John Cleese a call. If they brought back Judi Dench than why not Cleese. Hes really good foil especially for Craig's much more deadpan, bull-head Bond.

Out there choice for director: Kathryn Bigelow. Director of Near Dark (excellent vampire flick), K-19: Widowmaker (which if fairly solid flick, nothing crazy good), and The Hurt Locker (a movie I am dying to see and is getting a lot of praise on the festival circuit)

How do you guys know they're gonna change the director..?

That rumor came from the title possibly being from the Bond short story "007 in New York."
