I don't think they'll set it in the past. Unless they're gonna make Illyana older than Pyotr. I would rather they not mess up anymore family connections. Esp now that we've got a very good Colossus. Alex and James being involved seems weird, or they could flat out not use Patrick and or Halle.
That wouldn't make sense though with Patrick being in the next Wolverine. They're still willing to use him. So most likely IF this report is indeed accurate then they'll be set after Apocalypse most likely.

My thinking is they will upset some fans because magik will likely now be colossus' older sister.and like jubilee, angel, psylocke, deadpool, and likely gambit they are rebooting age of sunspot.

there has been reports this film would follow 1980's comics so being set In 1980's post apocalypce isn't shocking.

one of scoopers also said gambit isn't one of the 2 mystery films releases in october 2017 or early 2018 so new mutants could be one of those 2 relase dates.Because if Boone has cast any roles this film is coming sooner than previously thought.the script or at least first date is reportly complete.

If indeed Maise and Anya are true the caliber of young talent in the Apocalypse/New Mutants is so amazing

Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy. Wow love it.

And then add on the established actors James, McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Evan Peters and Olivia Munn.

Love it so much.

Huge news if true. Setting NEW MUTANTS in the XMA timeline, rather than the present-day DEADPOOL timeline.

Also, it's all pretty exciting casting...

The lineup is great one for fans of original new mutants comics.

I always thought new mutants could be set in past since I strongly suspect solo wolverine is last time any of original cast will be used in X-Men film.

If casting turns out to be true then game of thrones is turning out to be place X-Men casting directors find talent for X-Men films:woot:

I hope they could maybe find way for moira for new mutants because the
moira/wolfsbane relationship is Important one assuming she survives
Apocalypse. It would be something for her to bring her to mansion.

To be honest I never read much about New Mutants besides being taught and trained by Prof X did they do missions, fight etc?

That cast announcement is pretty cool. Happy to see Anya Taylor-Joy getting more stuff. She was superb in The Witch.

LOL also I just realised that if indeed Maise is playing Wolfsbane then that's a nice nod to Game of Thrones, what with the Stark's connections to wolves and all ;)

they were trained by xavier but he didn't send them on missions.he simply was trying to teach them about controling their powers.they got into their
adventres on their own.

In the Claremont run, they were generally students who kept getting caught up in craziness.

That would be good casting if true, but nothing we've heard about this project suggested it was in the casting stage. Doesn't mean it's not real, mind you.

I hope Jean and Rahne share the screen at some point, if it's real.

Setting it in the past would mean no NTW, but I guess Fox might want to crossover the flagship X-Men with the New Mutants instead of being part of the Deadpool/X-Force world. Esp. if X-Force does go into that hard R territory. It's a shame though because NTW's New Mutants costume is impeccable. Hope they can keep that bit.

Still hope the casting portion of this is true and that Boone and co. are gearing up for the film. Don't want to get my hopes up too early though.

Drew McWeeny, the writer of the scoop, also said it wasn't an April Fools joke on Twitter.

If this is true then, Fox might screw this up. I dont want New Mutants in Apocalypse timeline. If this is true, NTW having New Mutants outfit in present timeline doesnt make sense. Almost everything tied to Deadpool doesnt make sense. Not even Colossus.

Huh? New Mutants aren't restricted to the 80s. New Mutants can evolve through time. Just because there's a group of new mutants in the 80s doesn't mean that there aren't new mutants being trained at the mansion in the future just like NTW.

Most likely New Mutants are trained at the mansion some might go on to becoming X-Men and others go off and do their own thing. So NTW could be apart of the crop of new mutants in the future being trained by Xavier and the X-Men.

Er, what? What about NTW's outfit was specifically a New Mutants outfit? It was a stake on a pretty standard sort of X-Men suit, with no particular association with the New Mutants.

If true, FOX must be fairly confident with the 1980s direction of the new films.

very unusual to hear about casting of characters and there be not something to it.back in 2014 we did hear about other actors auditing for apocalypse but really not any false casting.we hear rumors on returning cast members but
surely not about others.plus Mcweeny is usually good on scoops.he got a lot of hate on what he reported on BVS but turns out he should have been listened to.

Sure you can. But you are basically confusing the universe you created. Doing and developing two different timelines in same time, using multiple actors for same roles/characters and not only that, but you also connecting them and doing generational thing pass torch up. And if you include Cable somewhere as time traveler and Fox decide to use him to bring some characters from 80's era to present era or reverse, you just complicating things even more. I am sure fans will understand it. But general audience. Those guys dont even understand "Martha" in BvS.

Super happy with the characters they are casting and the actors chosen so far.

But it seems odd to set it in the 80s when Apocalypse is focusing on young new mutants (Scott, Jean, Nightcrawler, etc). Obviously they aren't the comic book "new mutants" but there isn't much of an age gap between the X-men and New Mutants it seems?

Actually people are doing quite well following the X-Men franchise so far especially after DoFP. Give the audience a bit more credit then that.

I still don't see how it's confusing if NTW is a new mutant in the future. There's not really any characters being used at the same time except for Professor X.

For now... But Deadpool 2 and X-Force should have X-Men characters appearing additionally and be included in storyline. When you get two or three movies under the belt in current timeline we will see problems. I just hope Fox put this through. It will be complicated universe when you get 3 completely different storylines and in same time franchises to follow in two different eras, but in same time connected together.

Like I said. Like the casting and this project going forward. But not sure if it's in right era set. And there wont be much age difference between X-Mens and New Mutants to have needed affect to be special, different, unique.

Agreed. I don't get that.

Disappointed that Illyana likely won't have any relationship with her brother either. Which really sucks. Not happy with Storm allegedly being here, rather that focus go with her on the main X-Men. But whatever, hopefully it's cool.

Timeline issues are kinda just getting frustrating.
