Sequels The New Mutants - Josh Boone to Direct

Wasn't the main idea of the New Mutants to return to the X-Men's roots of Professor X teaching young mutants how to use their powers? Since we'll just begin to see that with the young X-Men in Apocalypse, the New Mutants wouldn't be necessary at this point in the timeline. It makes more sense for them to be in the present.

Which is why I thought X-Force made more sense as the next team movie instead of New Mutants. We're already getting Professor X teaching young mutants how to control their powers with Apocalypse, so New Mutants seems redundant.

Well since they got this director now and the news is out already can we assume maybe its a bit early to think it's the 2018 movie since its still 4 years away, perhaps It could be 2017

Also they are calling it a spin off so can we assume it won't have the X-Men name attached because of that?

I don't think FC,DOFP and apocalypse are considered spin offs

Sources familiar with the project say the film will be based on the 1980s run of the Marvel comic, and that tonally it will be—”John Hughes meets Stephen King”—leaning towards horror and the supernatural.

Entertainment Weekly

That is excellent! Come on Limbo! Come on Darkchylde!

Dani's powers also fit the horror theme so I would expect her to have a large role.

I'm so excited now.

Wolfsbane also fits the horror tone. I'm so glad they are going for this.

Dunno how I feel about this. I'd have preferred X-Force tbh.

there will certainly be selected mutants to fit the tone, probably not fan service ones though

For some reason I can really see Ansel Elgort as Cannonball. Does anyone else feel like he'd be a good fit?

Just makes me further think it will be set in the 80s after what happens in Apocalypse. Not saying that those cool characters won't be intorduced but i'm leaning towards Scott, Jean and Ororo being the main players plus extra people. With Xavier guiding them. Come on peeps Fox isn't gonna risk a whole bunch of new characters to a movie audience. They will introduce them in yes, but with characters that are famous to help support it. I think everyones enthusiasm is awesome but I remember First Class was just called that for a while and then they added on X-Men to it. It will be X-Men: New Mutants.

And like I said what's the point in introducing Young Cyclops, Jean and Storm with the good actors they've cast and then not use them again.

Would they really be planning this far ahead with a new director if it wasn't for a bunch of new characters? its likely for new characters and they need time to plan it out

on IMDB its listed as X-Men: The New Mutants, i dunno whether thats the official title

They could be. I hope they are but i'm remaining skeptical until we know for sure. If it's announced soon then that's cool because they won't be waiting until Apocalypse. But if we hear nothing on the project until around Apocalypse we know they're waiting for the release of that to announce something. Like characters.

Sounds really cool actually. I'm glad these films are all taking different tones to separate themselves. Just doing the same thing over and over won't help them expand.

Really hope this will give Magik a solid role. She sounds too perfect for this now.

Perhaps Selene in league with evil sorcerer Belasco as the villains. Eli Bard and the Hellions as their henchman.

I like the original line up of Cannonball, Karma, Mirage, Sunspot, Wolfsbane, Magma, Cypher & Magik.

plus the X-Terminators kids who later joined Rictor, Skids and Boom Boom.

Why are people saying 'I would have preferred X Force'????

Has X Force been dropped?

As to the X-Force film, I alluded last year that it had too many aspects that would later be in X-Men:Apocalypse... Like Apocalypse himself.

Though I'm sure with all their announcing and Deadpool coming up that it's only a matter of time before another script comes along.

X-force is a question mark right now.

The version of X-force that had a draft was dropped.

Since Apocalypse was announced nothing on X-force while gambit and now
new mutants moving forward.

How do you get that from that article? Because it mentions an 80's run of comics? It's a spin off, no a sequel. That is a distinction I'm sure Kingberg would make.

Still, the horror aspect just screams Magik/Darkchylde. Have the New Mutant movies build towards Inferno, and I'm sold.

I suspect a lot of factors have resulted in X-force being sent back to the drawing board. Between Apocalypse and Hugh's retirement, we just have to wait longer. And I'm fine with waiting. Get it right.

Which is really poor planning on Fox, Singer and everyone else's part. If Singer knew Apocalypse was already in the X-Force script, why put him in the next X-Men movie causing X-Force to be delayed.

Just seems like a choice that wasn't thought out very well.

Maybe it wasn't singers choice, maybe it was fox that preferred to have apocalypse be in an x-men movie, after all apocalypse is a big villain for this universe

no more than 5 members to start. Really build on them. I'd have the roster be close to the original

Cannonball
Sunspot
Moonstar
Wolfsbane
Im not big on Karma so maybe she can be the first casualty, just like in the books

I wouldnt have Magik be a full fledged member to start but the film can do her origins from young Illyana to teenage Magik with her joining at the end

The sequel can introduce Warlock and Cypher

I'd love for them to mix it up and maybe have Page's Kitty or Grammer's Beast as the instructor(s).

The talk of horror elements makes me hopeful that Emplate will be the villain. That or the Demon Bear.

Regardless, these should be the members.

Cannonball, Husk, Magik, Chamber, M, Hellion, Surge and Mirage. Karma, Cypher, Penance and Warlock can come about in the sequel.

Save Wolfsbane and Rictor for X-Factor, save Sunspot, X-23 and Warpath for X-Force and save Shadowcat, Jubilee and Hope Summers for the X-Men.

He does seem too big for X Force, unless an introductory cameo appearance.

Sinister would be good for X Force though.

I'm sure X Force could be reworked to have another baddie in it, if they really wanted to do that.
