Yes they should. That's how it happened In Comics.

No it shouldn't. There are multiple X-Force teams and having a team of young kids/teens join a team consisting of mercs and mentally unstable killing machines doesn't mash.

They need to be different. Keep the young new students on one side and the people who can go on a killing spree on the other.

This isn't the comics. X-Force should be a Deadpool spin-off not a New Mutants spin-off

I hope Halle, James and Anna mentor the kids or have their own squad.

Hope there's minimal to no appearances from OT characters if it does end up being set in the present. Let the team stand on it's own...

Maybe Collosus will mention Magik in Deadpool!?

Fox really is creating an X-Universe, I love it.

It's shaping up really well. The New Mutants really has the potential to be something special here.

We don't know what period New Mutants will be set in, so... tbd.

I think it's telling that he's the only actor of the big four to not talk about contract ending. I think he knows he's being retained.

Hopefully

Fingers crossed it's in the future. :woot:

New Mutants, to me at least, seemed to always be a very heavy female based team. I would love if they kept it that way and the line-up is:

Karma
Magik
Mirage
Wolfsbane
Magma
Warlock
Cannonball

With either Mirage or Magik as the team leader.

I think that'd be the best way to go. It would effectively set apart the main franchise (Young-ish Xavier leading young Scott/Jean/Ororo/etc.) from the New Mutants franchise, assuming they're looking for sequels with this (and they most likely are).

Yep. Plus I have my fingers crossed that, though they likely wouldn't be focused on, we could see the OT cast a little again. Specifically some of the underused ones. Though I may be completely off about that being something that would easily work, I am not familiar with this one really.

The only gripe I have with this potentially taking place in the future is that there's no potential to cross over with the main X-Men team of Beast, Scott, Storm, Jean, Nightcrawler, Jubilee etc. that are appearing in Apocalypse.

I guess they could pull an All New X-Men and bring the younger team from the past into the future for a team up, but then that opens up another can of worms not to mention it's time travel being used again.

Great news! Personally, I'd like to see Cannonball, Sunspot, Blink, Warpath, Boom Boom, Wolfsbane (and whoever else). Hopefully it would be set in the present time, so we could get some OT cast as minor roles (trainer/instructor).

This opens up the "New Mutants" team to be a core X-Men franchise going forward. Have their headquarters somewhere different than the mansion too--San Francisco, or maybe even Muir Island. Would love to see Genosha too.

My hope is

2016
Deadpool (set in present)
X-Men: Apocalypse (set in past)
Gambit (set in present)

2017
Old Man Logan (set in present with cameo/supporting role for OT)
New Mutants (set in present with cameo/supporting role for rest of OT)

2018
X-Force (with Deadpool, Gambit, Cable, Bishop, Domino, & whoever)

2019
X-Men: Apocalypse sequel

Essentially, keep a trilogy going in the past--it seems that in X-Men: Apocalypse they'll have more than enough characters introduced that they can play around with for plenty more films.

But also continue in a present/future time period. Wrap up most of the OT cast with Wolverine 3 (perhaps Stewart, Berry & Paquin??), and again with New Mutants (I'd love to see Beast & Shadowcat as trainers/instructors, and even Stewart as Xavier again here too)

Deadpool & Gambit will build up the rest of the mythology and, then, take advantage of the shared X universe by having the characters cross over into X-Force.

You could even bring the 1980s cast into the present down the road and mimic All New X-Men. Yes, it's time travel again, but that is something that sets it apart from other current CBMs on the market (plus it'd be going forward in time, rather than back as in DOFP).
That way, FOX has 5 X franchises and a universe right there

Well, if that were to happen (and I think that could make a pretty great crossover movie), I think it'd be interesting to see time travel used to move forward, rather than back.

If it's set in the DoFP future, why not just have the OT cast members appear every now and then? Give Marsden's Cyclops a chance to be a bonafide leader/mentor figure.

I'm expecting New Mutants to be modern day while the old X-Men catch up. Seems the best fit.

I also doubt they'll use the original New Mutants.
