New Mutants The New Mutants Skepticism Thread

Why wouldn't she have a big role in the Demon Bear Saga? Who would take her place?

Blu and Anya are obviously first and like...1.5 fiddle. Then probably Rahne then Sam/Berto and then Cece.

Because so far in the X-Men Franchise, every time a "Poc" is cast they seem to not be given nothing to do. Like Jubilee, Pshlocke,Etc in Apocalypse. Plus her casting seem like a afterthought. Maybe this director is different. But the vibe I'm getting is this is the Magik,Wolfsbane,Cannonball show then the rest.

Except the trades have mentioned how they focused on hers the most and how she'll play a significant role already.

But I mean, it's fine to be skeptical I guess. You have plenty of reason to with this franchise.

oscar isaac's role wasn't memorable enough to me either.

X1 and X2 balance out characters fairly well and you get to see development all around. It's great stuff and I really wish we could see Singer's X3, X4 and maybe even X5 someday. Perhaps as a series of novels?

Thing is characters in the first two films were a lot more carefully developed over the span of two films. The prequels not so much, First Class diverged from the original trilogy to create something funner and closer to the comic book feel; Jennifer Lawrence's rise in fame then took over the series and all other characters revolved around her. We saw very little development for Beast, for example, and he's the only actual X-Men member present in most prequels. Apocalypse is just another bad guy in a comic book film and his only purpose is to have Lawrence lead the X-Men. If she's back, Dark Phoenix is about Lawrence's difficult decision over whether or not to take Jean Grey down.

edit:

Hopefully New Mutants would be a clean slate, though.

I agree that some of the casting choices are kinda disappointing from a certain point of view, but besides that I don't see much reason to feel skeptical about this project right now.

...because he was sore about Kinberg's X-men film having a skepticism thread.

It comes full circle.

Disney are already getting heat for their Jasmine casting. Ok then.... Its only a matter of time before there is backlash on the studio for not casting a Russian to play Magik and a German to play Nightcrawler. That's where we seem to be heading.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine did one better:

Doug: "You want me to help you catch him, like when X-Men teamed up with Magneto to stop Apocalypse?"
Jake: "I heard that one was bad."
Doug: "Wasn't great."
Jake: "I still wanna see it though."
Doug: "I'd watch it again."

On the local news last night some guy confronted a guy that stole his bike and tried to sell it back to him later on. When he was interviewed he said that's just the type of guy that he is. "I grew up with GI Joe and X-men."
